GameStop stock gets buy nod
GameStop, the world's largest video game retailer, is riding a wave of good fortunes. In the wake of the PS3 launch, analysts believe gaming is going to do well which means (ta-da) GameStop stands to profit. We imagine they'll look even better come tomorrow (Wii launch day for those living under a rock/glued to their PS3).
Michael Pachter, an analyst with Wedbush Morgan Securities has some high praises for GameStop; Pachter handed the video game retailer a strong buy recommendation. He calls GameStop the "destination for new stuff."
Regardless of what you may think of GameStop, when a specialty store does well, we know the suppliers are looking good, too. GameStop getting a rosy thumbs-up means good things for gamers; our hobby is going to be around for a while. Anyone planning on investing in GameStop (then boosting their shares via the mass-consumption of games)?

Hopefully a good sign for the industry, but I won't be investing in GameStop. There are some lines one just can't cross.

I bought Red Steel and a Component Video Switch from them yesterday, the switch was only $20. I told the guy he made me a very happy customer.
I might stop there again tomorrow to get controllers if Toys R Us runs out, or doesn't have enough.

Gamestop is great if only because it's the only place you can consistently get games older than a year or two because of their vast selection of used games. The people there are always better informed than your average Best Buy grunt, even if they are a little pretentious sometimes

it would help...and make sense..
no?

UGH...Gamestop is the root of all evil and until you pathetic retail junkies see that...we'll continue to get $5 off a trade in game that comes with no case or booklet. I mean give me a break, do we need to weed through 8 dozen sports titles in the used bin to try and find one good copy of anything not sports related. Don't even get me started on their game displays...you can't even tell what's new and what's not. STUPID Store for STUPID consumers who don't see that by losing competition (EB vs. Gamestop) we've lost the chance for competitive pricing.

I'm not sure if it's just me or not. I've been going to Gamestop every since they were Funco land, and have been a loyal customer since. But in the past 12 months they have really pissed me off to the point that I'm seriously thinking of shopping elsewhere. They always want you to preorder when most times then ever the game is available. Now I know that's there way of getting for sure buys on all the new products out. But they don't have to tell you over and over again that if you don't preorder you won't get to play. I've been preordering for years and found out that it's all bullshit. Gamestop is a great company for having the latest and hard to find games, but they suck in terms of trade-in value, and their stupid 10% off card that only works for used games, and only game trade ins (no consoles). I've been short changed so many times shopping with them that for now on I go elsewhere and always come out more than what they were going to give me. When my cousin was trading his XBOX 360 Premium package in to see how much it would be worth. They were only willing to give him $204, now if you think that's a great price then more power to ya, but he ended up going to Blockbuster where they gave him $350 just for the system alone, not including games. I don't hate Gamestop, but there's a lot of other places that offer the same value for a more pleasent experience.
Like I said this is my own opinion, and no offense to the people who love them.

I really try to avoid GameStop when buying a game. They are ALWAYS overcrowded and understaffed. Then the employees all seem to be retarded and work at like 2 customers per hour while talking and joking with eachother. I'd rather go to Best Buy or another large chain, where it's relatively fast.

I bought this stock (GME)when it was $30 a year ago and just recently sold off enough to pay for a 360 and the goods to go with it. Even if you think this company is the devils play ground take the money you earn from them and spend it elsewhere. For me I took the money I made from the stock went back to Gamestop bought my 360, went home and bought more GME. With the shortage of consoles from Ps3 and the Wii being delivered through the holidays this doesn't have a downside for awhile.
