hmmm, these are isolated problems it seems

been playing ps3 all friday and saturday

the weight , i don't care if its light or heavier, but the synching has been perfect everytime, never had to use usb again. and the controller hasn't powered off at all..

i do however have to re-synch my 360 controllers all the time...

seems just like random issues that all devices have.

Notice how even when bashing sony, he has to put a bash to the wii in.

The one good thing about having assclowns like cole and snow on the staff is that once and forall, sony fantards must shut up about joystiq not being a sony cheerleader like some other sites.

I still miss Robert Summa. Being misled is a hell of alot better than flagrant bias.

...Redsteel has been reviewed by Gamespot: five point five!

http://www.gamespot.com/wii/action/redsteel/review.html

..and, for the weight of the controller. Have you guys held and NES or SNES pad lately? They're really light, pads starting packing the pounds with N64 on, now, they're coming back down to earth.

That's pretty pathetic OP.

Having to dredghe up a review from a site with a fairly established anti wii bias. What about the other 3 reviews for red steel? The ones that rate it 70, and 80 , and 90? Don't see you mentioning them.

I have to say I disagree with all three complaints. My PS3 has been working great under almost 24-hour action since I got it. I bought a 2nd controller and both synced easily and have not needed to be resynced. I also like the light weight. It seems less tiring to play. It has also never powered off unless I told it to. I do wish the controllers were just a little bigger though - I'm a full grown adult (or I pretend anyway) and it seems like they were made for kids.

That was easily the most comprehensive review available rather than the usual Nintendo fanboi pandering which would drive readers away; it actually challenges how functional the wiimote is. Anyways, people getting RedSteel are in for a good time only if they have zero expectations at all.. which isnt the case.

Please. Gamespot's opinion on the wii is worth about as much as yours is. In nearly every review they have been the lowest scorers. That tells you something. It means they just plain don't like it.

Even assuming for one insane moment that this one negative review is worth more than the 3 positive reviews that counter act it, it still pales in comparison with the ps3's problems.

Worst case scenario is that we've got one bad game. Whereas you are still stuck with a poorly constructed controller. At least it will go well with your PS3 when it randomly shuts down.

@ Optimus Prime

So... in an article related to problems with the PS3, you show a link to a Wii game?

I don't get it.

I could just as easily conjure up links to reviews of shitty PS3 games. What are you proving here?

The Wii has a large launch lineup, and so one overhyped game that gets a bad review from one website isn't going to spell doom for the console.

Again, I must ask, what are you proving here?

@2
I call bull-sh!t
I have never ever heard of a 360 controller having to be synched. In fact, you can take a random controller into the room with a 2nd 360, press the power - and the controller will find the new 360 and turn it on. The only time you ever have to go through synchronization is if you want to make controller two into controller one without powering down the x360 box.
If your not just spreading FUD then I'd look at other devices in the room that could be causing an issue.

@13:
Or, you know, the games could just be crap. It's not a law that you have the Wii.
I'm getting a Wii for a nephew for christmas, but I have no interest in one for myself.

@ PS3 owners:
Good luck with your new piece of kit. I was an early x360 adopter, and know the frustration of quibbles from a launch unit. But still, any little issues can be overlooked once the first game boots up and you enter the next gen yourself (for me GRAW and Oblivion were the games – the 360 launched late in New Zealand).
Just for the rest of the week I can put the fan-boy war aside and just be happy that fallow games can finally get their game on. I hope your platform gives you as much satisfaction as mine did me.

My friend has a Wii right now, the nunchuck does feel cheap. The Wiimote doesn't really...but the nunchuck attachment definitely feels cheap.

Also, I didn't enjoy Red Steel at all...I guess because I normally like playing my FPS (and most games) with the controller in my lap...with Red Steel you can't do that...you have to hold the controller up so your view doesn't turn into you constantly turning around...

He's right about the sync issues -- sometimes the machine won't acknowledge the controller, forcing me to unplug the USB cable and then plug it back in to recognize. This usually happens following Blu Ray movie playback.

Light is not the same as flimsy. The SIXAXIS is not flimsy. I've played with it a few hours already, despite not owning one yet.

The weight is a more personal thing. I like the weight, especially if I'm to be waving it around. I'm with Optimus Prime here. SNES pads are very light. And tough as nails. No reason to think this will be different (until proven otherwise).

I don't think battery draining is going to be an issue. Bluetooth has ridiculously low standby current.

I don't ever have to resync my 360 controllers, hopefully I won't have to resync my PS3 controllers either (coming Tuesday?). I'd better not have to.

I can't believe that no one has mentioned the biggest PS3 controller complain of all: lack of rumble. now, my opinion probably doesn't count for much because all I've played is 15 minutes of Motorstorm on a demo unit...but the lack of rumble was painfully obvious, and the game just screamed out for it. Sony needs to do something about the rumble ASAP...there's just no good excuse for it. I'm even starting to considering looking into 3rd party controllers, something which I would never considering.

Coming back to the topic of controllers and their size, remember the official Sony 'dual analogue' controller that was released _before_ the dual-shock? (yeah, this is going back a bit) It was great - the prongs were quite a bit larger than the dual-shocks which worked well for anyone with large hands. Easily the most conformable controller I've ever used. It morphed into the dual-shock, but it just wasn't the same... (although the surface of the joysticks was improved greatly). I miss that controller : (

Im not a big fan of the sixaxis idea. It something that seemed to be rushed and for the most part my freinds and I dont use it much. I understand the idea but its just doesnt do it for me.

As for the weight at 1st it does feel odd and as much as I would like to get more weight on it its not really a major issue. Granted this comes from a very limited amount of time playing it in my cousins house.

As for all the PS3 newcomers welcome to the Next Gen which will become current Gen after the Wii launch. Im not a fanboy (though I do prefer the 360) and will be looking to get one in the near future when the price declines or a must have game is released (whichever comes 1st). I was fortunate enough to get my 360 on launch day and remember how fun it was to crack open that box and get the new console aroma in the air. Enjoy it fellas.

No, you don't, you ignorant douchebag. I simply bought a few rechargeable AA batteries. PROBLEM SOLVED! And many people consider the 360 to have one of the most comfortable controllers ever. The problem with the PS3's is that it's TOO light.

I dunno about painfully small. But it's the same shell. The physical layout is identical except the lack of a cord and the bottom triggers are long throw. The joysticks are slightly different from the Dual Shock.

Apparently the Dual Shock shape is so crappy, Sony only sold a hair over 100,000,000 of 'em.

Lack of shock isn't a big deal to me. It just doesn't add much to games, at least the ones I play. I mean, do you need a shaking controller to tell you your motor is running or you just landed from a jump in Motorstorm? Motion sensitivity could add a lot, or not, depends on how developers use it.

I wouldn't turn down shock for free. But since MS owns 20% of Immersion, and Immersion claims they own the patents on shock, I doubt Immersion is offering Sony a decent deal.

Anyone else notice this?

If you blast Zelda for graphics, people claim its a Gamecube game ported. If you blast the Wii for not having good lauch games, people claim Zelda is a Wii game. If you blast the PS3 for having all ports on their launch, you are the same person praising Zelda as an excellent launch title for the Wii. I think its funny :)

Personally, The Wii launch line-up excluding Zelda looks craptastic. Of course, I'm getting Zelda for my gamecube instead of paying $250 to play it a month early. So, My opinion on this matter is probably biased... ALOT.

Usual BS, if it was the 360 that didn't have rumble the sonyites would be screaming about it.

In a game like Gears Of War (For example) the controller rumbles before an emergence hole opens up (or some other big event coming) this gives you a subtle and instinctive warning that you really get used to and stay immersed in... It just isn't the same to sound a klaxon or put a big red sign on screen "LOOK OUT THERE IS TROUBLE AHEAD".

Stop playing rumble down, it is great and it should have been in the PS3 admit it or you sound far too biased to take anything else you say seriously (that was to the sony f-boys who say it doesn't matter)

Oh and i've never had a single problem with either of my 360 controllers, the batteries last ages and no sync problems (Nicely weighted too with RECOIL when firing thanks to nicely used rumble) ;)

Lack of shock is annoying but you can hardly blame Sony from cutting after the lawsuit and subsequent MS shenanigans. However in this day and age it would have been nice if it had a speaker of some kind. Even with the launch been and gone there is nothing to stop Sony or 3rd parties from producing such a thing - I'm sure some games would support it if such a thing did appear.

Not sure what the big deal with complaints about the controller's weight. The back is held on with a few screws. About 5 minutes work with a screwdriver some tape and some coins / weights would solve that problem.

you guys need to stop the hating. 360 controllers can switch to different channels on a 2.4ghz spectrum. there is no resynching a 360 controller and even when you do synch you still don't have to make any physical connection. And I have Sony Location Free to watch my dvr on my psp and it still doesn't interfere with my 360. Now for the PS3 which is damn near the same thing. they both go on 2.4ghz frequencies so maybe you guys are going too far from the console. The only downfall about the 360 and PS3 are they are both behemoth dinosaurs. Using "first to use untested" chip(s), 3 chips welded to one chipset is proposterous. Which is why Nintendo is waiting until next year to release the HD Wii. Neither company can control all that power (and heat) exuming from those chips. and by next year Flash based drives will have more capacity, memory will be smaller but faster. And please somebody work on these power hungry power supplies that will spike your electric bill. If you own a PS3 or 360 (like myself) YOU ARE A SUCKER. The same way Xbox 360 before launch boasted HD quality everything then at the launch it's "oh in about 6 months you'll start to see 1080p games released" So yes neither 360 nor PS3 are fully blown HD devices yet (they will be thanks to your neighborhood friendly firmware update)
