A Wii smashing *yawn*

The same people who smashed a PS3 a few days ago return to destroy a Wii. We post this to feed the Sony fanboys and present equitable smashing. Frankly, it's a bit boring. How can somebody follow up smashing a $600 PS3, which would sell on eBay for thousands of dollars, with a console that costs $250? That's not upping the ante, that's diminishing returns. Well, hopefully you enjoyed this piece of Canadian performance art, thankfully it'll be another half decade before we have to post something like this again.

Better than the PS3 smashing, IMHO. Pretty funny sound effects and costumes here.
Most of the crowd seems to have enjoyed it (applause and cheers about halfway through). Just goes to show you - the launches couldn't have been more different.

I love my wii, and would loved to see this live, but can't they be more original? I mean, if your gonna school the PS3 with a sledge hammer, you need a different method of destruction for the wii.
hell, even a baseball bat or golf club would have been nice variety.
that cheap home depot sledge hammer is getting quite the work out.
They should put that on ebay: "Sledge hammer used to destroy PS3 and WII!!!!"

I don't believe that the only reason for smashing the consoles is a way to "get back" at fanboys. Although that is clearly a big part of it.
It's more of an exercise is sociology. Just to see how the masses, the people that lined up for hours or days to pick up these things, would react. Smashing the iPod, xbox360, PS3, and Wii seem to be more of a shot against the morons that are putting way too much effort into getting a launch console, considering that in a few months or more, shelves will be amply stocked.
I love the 360 and PS3 cuz I'm a sucker for pretty. However, I laughed my ass off when they were smashed infront of a line of fans itching and hoping for one. Wii was just next on the list for launch.

I love the Wii more than the PS3 but I found the PS3 one to actually be a bit boring. I guess all the comments made it sound better than what it turned out to be.
Not gonna waste my time watching this one of the Wii fans are "more well behaved" than the PS3 fans.

One thing I noticed is that the PS3 held up relatively well to a repeated beating by a sledge hammer, were as the Wii just exploded. Brilliantly engineered indeed.

I'd like to see a halfway real world torture test more than just smashing the things outright like see how many feet they can survive a drop from and still function and how many days they'll run before crashing and wiping out your saves. or which slot loading mech will die first when forcefully slamming cd's in the drive slot (or a custom cd/dvd sized metal disc.)
plus which controller will survive the most throws at a brick wall

These guys are idiots. I don't care if they're smashing an iPod, 360, PS3, Wii, whatever. Real great, piss off a bunch of fanboys, not hard to do. The reason I hate it is because it is such a waste. It gives gamers a negative image, which we certainly don't need help with. It doesn't benefit anyone but themselves. That console could be given to Child's Play. Or better, the money itself could go to something that actually helps sick kids rather than entertain them.

I'm just talking generally, ps3 wii 360. Guys were being shot for not handing over their ps3, people were getting beat up. This guy does all this in Canada, so with all the violence in the states with the ps3 launch I can only assume the ravenous people waiting would have killed him.

#30, I agree, PART of it is the people that donated money, but the people that made the website obviously didn't intend to lose money or they wouldn't have set up a donation system, or let it get that high. I see this as immoral, and I realize that most will disagree with me on that. Most should agree with me though that it is rather childish to rub a console in everyone's faces and then smash it.

You got to be kidding me..... There was two very distinct moments in the wii smashing that were priceless. The first was the kid who yelled "Cool!". As long as it wasn't mine (or at the very least if I didn't get one,) and I could watch the guts of the wii mashed all over the floor, thats how I would have reacted. The second and FUNNIEST PART EVER was the look on that one kids face. He was about to cry right on the spot. That made me almost crap my pants. You were right (above^^) to say the PS3 smashing was boring. The sad look on that kids face in the wii smashing video was a million times funnier then the ps3 and xbox 360 videos.

I have nothing against smashing a Wii or PS3 or iPod, its just the guys who do smashed it were douches. How many times did they mention 'Smash My Wii.com'? Its like a soft PG friendly version of Jackass where even little kids can stay up and watch and clap along, made by the Nickoldean (sp) channel. Its like a producer has told these nerds 'try and be like Johnny Knoxville, but don't strain your kidney muscles because we aren't insured. Oh and also mention the website every 30 seconds so we can promote it'.
These tools are just trying way too hard.

People talk about how he did this to PS3 and now the Wii and call this guy an idiot. If anything this guy may look like one, but far from an idiot.
He brings shock factor to people and it is capture on film. With people flocking to his site, he is making a killing in advertising hits. Also the $$$ he got for these systems were donated to him to WATCH him smash the units. I mean, lots of people like Howard Stern right for his shock factor then.
So not only did it not cost him a dime, he is making money and all he had to do is sit in line for a few hours.

I don't know if anyone has pointed this out but think about this.
You buy a 360, MS loses money on that deal. They make none back if you smash it and buy no games.
You buy a PS3, Sony takes a hit on that deal. They make none back if you smash it and buy no games.
You buy a Wii, Nintendo makes a profit. You smash it and buy no games, Nintendo still makes a profit.
Nintendo is, strangely enough, the only one of the three who actually made a profit off a few guys buying their console and smashing it.
Just food for thought.

I am so bored of these smashmy______ sites its stupid. I'm either going to do 2 things next console launch.
1. Start my own smashmy site and then not smash it and buy something with the money the retards give me.
2. Find out where the smashmy people are and as soon as they throw it on the ground, run and grab it before they totaly destroy it.
