I think I have one of the weirder stories. I was able to get one of the 6 Wiis they had at a Sears, but that store had no games or accessories on hand at all (at least, not that the staff could find). Circuit City had remotes left but no nunchucks, and everywhere else I went was totally out of Wii accessories.

Um, I just reserved mine. Got a Wii-mote, Nunchuck, and a superflous CController. Taking the CController back tomorrow since my Wavebird's got it all under control...

I do think it's kinda janky that they don't have any spare ones though. The whole line I stood in for my system at Wal-mart ran out of CControllers 2 people after me and we were only halfway through the line of 30. They ran out of nunchucks 6 people later.

They had 50 copies of Zelda for 30 systems though... ?

When I went to pick up my Wii, they reminded me that all the extra Nunchucks had been preordered and they had none left. Luckily I had preordered extra controllers a month ago.

@DVDDesign (#45):

Folks will more than likely go into a lot of stores and buy games before they get the console (or buy games for people who already have it). There will always be a surplus of games per console... after all, the games are how you make the real money (though Nintendo is making a profit on the razor and the blades).

I was having the same problem... I couldnt even find an extra wireless controller in DC... so I turned to online, and Amazon was out of both Nunchucks and Wireless controllers.

But Gameasylum.com apparently has enough in stock, I ordered 2 nunchucks and 2 wireless controllers as well as 1 classic controller on that site... I figure I'll wait a bit for availability before I get my last set.. plus I felt bad enough buying two already with the shortages... so I figured someone somewhere may benifit from me not buying my fourth set.

hey Alfarif,

Does you Wii start at all? I powered it up and before I could play I had to download two updates from the network. Perhaps that is the problem. Hope it helps. I've actually been having problems with my Wii reading the Wii Sports disc, which is really aggravating.

They don't package them together because eventually there will be other attachments for you to buy.

I had to go to over 20 stores today to find 3 nunchucks. I presume I got the final 3 in city since I called everywhere else. I would occasionally see remotes and classic every once in a while.

No nunchuks in my area, either (Northern VA). I preordered my Wii from EB Games, but did not preorder an extra controller. I was thinking that this would be like the Xbox 360 launch, where the console was nowhere to be found, but controllers and games were plentiful.

On the way to EB to pick up my console, I passed by a Best Buy that was letting in a line of people that was at least 40 people deep. I got to EB and stood in line to pay for my Wii, only to have the person in front of me buy the last wiimote.

I headed over the aforementioned Best Buy where they were still processing the people who stood in line. I was able to buy one of the last four wiimotes, but no nunchuks were left.

I just ordered one from Nintendo.com along with the component cables (which are backordered). It was only $5 for shipping for both items.

I went to Toys 'R Us today. About 50 wiimotes. No nunchuks, no classic controllers. Many Wiis and games.

I thought it odd, they had many more hooks for the nunchuks than for anything else.

They have tons and tons of Nunchucks at the Toys R Us in Time Square. I just came from there trying to buy Wii. But it was packed and you have to wait for all those with wrist bands to get their Wii's before people without wristbands could start buying.

But in Toys R Us has a bin full of Wii remotes, nunchucks, and other accessories.

@Superbagman (#50):

It starts up but it doesn't go anywhere but to the Insert Start up Disc screen. I was actually expecting to have to start up my computer (My WiFi USB device is on it) and have it update that way... was thinking that's what it was waiting for me to do but nope, it's a widespread problem. It seems that some of the units were supposed to be store demo units that were packaged and shipped as sell-able units. Really sucks, so I'm hoping for a Wed delivery date but after my night (locked my keys in the car, Wii doesn't work) I'm almost thinking Friday or even Saturday will be the day I get my Wii.

The target I went to this morning was great. I got everything ( except component cables! grr nintendo)that I wanted at one place (Wii + Zelda + Extra Wimote + Nunchuck + Points card). I saw several people in front of me getting 3 extra wiimote and nunchucks. I was #20 out of 60 people.

I am very happy with the Wii so far. Only comlaint is to nintendo for dropping the ball on the component cables. I think it should of shipped with one or at very least had plenty of them at launch.

Useless posting since no one will ever see this this far down, but, yeah, I haven't been able to get any Wiimotes in my area (suburbs of East Bay, California). I've been to three stores and just gave up...only one had any nunchuks.

i got the last nunchuck from my local best buy. they only had 4 remotes left after i got mine. i got my Wii from toys r us though and they had plenty (and what looked like an equal amount) of both. i would have bought them there but i didnt wanna waste time picking up accessories when the line was constantly growing. even though i had a preorder, with my luck, i would have been the one turned away til the next shipment or something.

I was able to snag 2 nunchuks at a TRU. They had over 200 Wiis and shopping carts filled with accessories. It was like a Wii paradise. Nunchuks were gone before I even paid for the 2 in my hands...

I think it is interesting that on the PS3 launch people were noting that very few people were buying up extra controllers and on the Wii launch there weren't enough extra controllers.

To be honest though the reasons are pretty clear; The PS3 launch was so limited in numbers that the fanboys were not catered to and instead the greedy ebay whores took the lot to make money on the backs of the impatient and rich. The Wii Launch had enough numbers that this wasn't a factor. A brief search on ebay doesn't bring up that many hopeful capitalists.

I feel sorry for those who wanted to buy a PS3 so soon in launch, and that isn't baiting. Sony have let their layal fanbase down a lot of late, and it's difficult to see how it will turn around. I'm thinking there will be a lot of mini releases up until christmas as more units become available and these too will be bought up by those wanting to make a profit on the backs of others. I just hope that no matter how much a fanboy/girl you are, you don't buy one from these people. When there are enough units available, it will just be a 2nd hand console and they will lose money on it; that's the way toget back at them.

As for Nintendo, they must be rubbing their hands with glee. If they are selling out on consoles, wiimotes and nunchucks on launch with many more times the units than Sony, making money on each sale, they know that they can keep doing what they are doing. For all the criticism that it isn't next gen or isn't HD-TV etc, it IS profitable to them as a company, and that is all that matters. The 2 sides of Capitalism.

As for me, I'll be getting both... AFTER Christmas.

"Reader Kevin pretty much sums it up, "Why dont they just package them together???" We'll look into that. "

I'm going to guess:

The Bad: Nintendo wants to make more money by dinging us for each piece of the controller

The Good: What if only your Wiimote or Nunchuck pray tell breaks after throwing it(100 times) 20 feet across the room? It is nice that we only have to buy one portion of the controller instead of the set and have several extras laying around?

Just a thought :D

andrew (#18). To answer the component cable question, I believe it has been explained that you can order them online only, and that they would not be in stores.

---

straight from nintendos online store: Due to high demand, our initial allotment of the Wii Component Video Cables has been depleted. We expect to begin shipping again the week of November 28, 2006. The Wii Component Video Cable will also be available at select retail stores (Best Buy, GameStop, Circuit City) in early/mid December.

I'm in the situation where nunchuks are scarece, but remotes are plentiful. Luckily I got all I need on launch day, so I'm good.

However, for people looking for each, note that dealnews mentioned today that Circuit City has $5 off many Wii accessories and the Nunchuk is actually in-stock there.

Also, metaprice.com shows the Wii Remote is in-stock at Amazon

At our toys r us all the nunchuks were taken by the people waiting to buy their Wiis that day (no preordered) so i didn't get any. But then at our hastings (which had three Wiis) their was a raffle for who could buy the wiis. After that they had their accesoires: 4 Wii Remotes and ONLY 2 NUNCHUCKS!!!

Why such a wierd ratio Nintendo!!!!
