Doesn't the PS3 include the PS2 hardware? Why should there be any problems?

I think Xbox fans are a little jealous. Once Sony works out all the bugs PS3 will be a more gamer friendly console for anyone wanting to just sit down and game, no need for all these little micro transactions and crappy Microsoft accessories.

The question is, is the loading time for Psychonauts any better on the PS3?
I played through Psychonauts on PS2, and the loading times were horrific.

Great game though.

Some problems I've found:

Several problems with Need for Speed titles, including the new one, Carbon. (put in "speed" do see all results)

PS1 - Medievil II has some slow down issues.

2 different problems between MGS3:Sub and MGS3:Sub LE.

Metal Saga can't use the HDD.

No "problems" with DDR titles, but same as Gutiar Hero - you can't plug the mats in.

Dog's Life hangs when you try to start a new game.

A couple of nasty problems with PS2's Burnout 3, including the inability of loading saved games. ><

Some sound issues in Devil May Cry 3.

PS1's Street Fighter Collection has a couple of problems.

PS1's Arcade's Greatest Hits has several problems with various games.

I'm sure there are many more.

Stu: You don't need any "microtransactions" to play backwards compatible games on the 360! Also it doesn't require any add-ons. And you think Sony is going to give you everything for free???? I bet you do, just like a typical Sony brainless drone that will believe anything they are told. The 360 has a huge list of back compat games and I've been playing all my old Xbox games for MONTHS now, you guys are late to the party..

You can find Xbox 360 in stores though. I do wish I had a PS3, but I'm not willing to pay that much, especially since many titles will make the jump to 360 anyway. Here's hoping MGS4 does too!

Stu,

No need to be disingenuous. If you truly believe that Sony will not subject you to microtransactions (which btw MS does not force on you) you are living in a pipe dream. As to the accessories, name me one that you need. Not a one is required to play the 360.

I think what people find a bit weird, is that you have a fully functional PS2 sitting in that PS3. How could you possibly run into non BC compatible games? Anyway, the NPF for Guitar Hero is just a bit misleading because, while the game does work, how the hell are you supposed to play when the controller doesn't?

razer let me guess you've been playing Halo 1 and 2 for the past year. Where it's all great and good for the Xbox to have top selling games playable the PS2 had more great games than the Xbox and with FFXII and Okami are great games that were release in the past couple of months and are better than anything that Xbox 360 had discounting Gears of War. The PS2 > Xbox 360(sad but true at this point) and since PS3 = Blu ray + PS2 + PS1 than you can assume PS3 > PS2 and that means PS3 > Xbox 360. Just give it a 3 months for another killer app.

The machine is still capable of supporting more than 4 wireless controllers. The issue is what game in its right mind would support and, and why even bother with that many playing on one screen. The LED's on the sixaxis controllers go to 4, but the system can recognize up to 7 bluetooth enabled devices. Whether that be 7 controllers, 4 controllers a headset keyboard and mouse, or whatever other configuration.

But anyway, the list is pretty long, but no were near as long as the unsupported xbox games. Only a drop in the buck of total ps1/ps2 games have issues, and they are working on software solutions to fix them. If they fix the Tekken 5 glitch, I am a happy camper.

Gee, the 360 posts lists of all the games that work, and people yell "Ha, they don't have THIS game or THAT game!" Sony, however, adapts the strategy that "Well, if they don't ask for it, they don't need it." How many MORE hoops do the Sony fans have to jump through?

So, my Final Fantasy console doesn't even play Final Fantasy? That's kinda dumb, Sony.

(I say this in all seriousness. 90% of my PS1 and PS2 games are in the Final Fantasy series. This needs to be fixed pronto!)

Logikil:
Hmmm. With the 360, the REQUIRED purchases are
1)Charge kit + Battery. Yes, you need to use a wireless controller. If you use a wired one, you risk burn from sitting so close to the console.
2)HDD upgrade. Yes, you will need this unless you like deleting things when a new demo comes out. It has to be a MS one too, so MS makes the money.
3)XBL GOLD ACCOUNT! Nuff Said. Without it, your wasting your 360
4)Calculator to do the conversions from MS money to real money.

BTW, I have a 360. Getting a PS3, passing on the Wii (For now) I just like having fun when so many are so uptight.

Why all the hate?
Sony tries to do a GOOD thing by letting you know of current existing issues and you just trash the system?
Because the Xbox360 and thier back compat list is 100% perfect right?
and Microsoft does no wrong? (Damn MS point system)
I own a 360 and I am on my second one because the other one over heated and needed to be replaced...
I will buy a ps3 (and a wii too)
I love games

Thought I'd chime in here on a few things.

First, To brian: The PS3 does support 7 wireless controllers. What happends is when you sync up controller 5, lights 1 and 4 light up together, controller 6 has 2 and 4 light up together, and 7 has 3 and 4 light up together. It's stated in the getting started guide that comes with the system.

Second, it is most definately dissapointing that there isn't 100% backwards compatability. There are about 200 games (Out of multiple thousands) between the PS2 and the PSX that do not work on my PS3 100%, although according to the article site, most of them work just fine but with audio problems. My 360, on the other hand, according to xboxlive.com only has about 215 games(Out of 1 or 2 thousand) that work. Period. The rest of titles do not boot at all. Some of the greatest ones don't even work on it at all (I'm looking at you, Psychonauts) So from the start, the PS3 has greater backwards compatability than the 360.

As of right now, I believe the Wii will possibly have the best backwards compatability, as it's actually using the same architecture on the processors as it's predecessor. However this is unknown at this time. Before nintendo fans start piping up, virtual console does not count as backwards compatability, as you're not playing the actual cartridge from the game, but playing a emulated version like you would if you bought a Sega Smash Pack on a PS2 and popped it in.

Here's what I've found

ESPN NFL 2K5: No HDD Functionality

Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence /(Limited Edition):
Description: During gameplay, with 1 PS3 user hosting a Team Deathmatch Game Type, and 5 other users as clients, the host is randomly disconnected, and is unable to reconnect

Description: Throughout the title, with the PS3 using HDMI out, the screen appears divided horizontally, and both of the divided portions of the screen display out of sync from one another.

Secret Weapons Over Normandy:
Description: Upon boot-up, the title hangs after the Totally Games logo FMV plays.

And it looks like some one already mentioned ICO's screen flicker.

You are all fools. There is ONE huge accessory required to play Xbox games on Xbox 360.

The fucking hard drive. All those core system owners got fucked. Big time.

And there are still way more PS2/PS1 games playable on PS3 than there are Xbox games on 360.

So... yeah. Stop crying, all of you.

If I'm not mistaken, currently you can't use PS2 controllers on the PS3 right? So, if that's the canse, in my opinion, most, if not all PS2 games have issues with the PS3, and that is no vibration. I'm not saying this as a Xbox fanboy, but as a dual shock fanboy. This was an integral part of these games, some of them are almost unplayable without it. If there is an adapter coming for the PS3 that will allow me to use my Logitech wirless controller on the PS3, then I will be happy. If not, then I guess I will keep my PS2 hooked up until Sony can fix the problem. Heck, I still have my original Playstaion hooked up to play Final Fantasy Anthology (working on beating V). I hope that this issue is fixed though, because I would rather copy my saves to the PS3 HDD and use it for saving and loading my game saves than the limiting memory cards. I have at least five just so I could have enough space for all my various games. I definitely preferred using the Xbox for that. No memory card needed at all, even with about fifty albums on the HDD. I just wish Microsoft would tell me how much memory I am using on the 360 for music, it tells me about everything else.

Future PS3 owner, current 360, Wii, PS2, PS1, and Xbox owner.
