Nintendo is feeling confident these days; the Wii sold out and the target demographic is saying good things about the system. With all the good news coming down the pipe, Nintendo isn't content to sit back and watch how things pan out; instead, they're reiterating the reason why the Wii exists in the first place.
In a video interview with David Ewalt of Forbes.com, Reggie Fils-Aime stood by Nintendo's decision to bypass the tech spec race. Reggie emphatically stated that console gaming is "not about teraflops" but "about fun." He goes on to say that what we know the Wii can do is only scratching the surface and developers will be in a great position to innovate.
Nintendo's choice to make a simple yet entertaining console could be enough to give them the top console spot back again. The Wii is cheaper than the competition, has strong mainstream buzz and has vastly superior production capabilities than the PS3. However, if these advantages will actually translate into sustained sales -- the GameCube had the same advantages -- remains to be seen.
