Mine works perfect too, not like it matters as the online component is rather weak at the moment.

About the issue though, it does suck for who ever gets it. I think the percent of posters to this problem in the forums may give some indication as to how many overall may have been effected. So how many here got this error?

The fact that you fnabois (squirrel, cronos, jodie, etc) resort to name calling and profanity proves my point. You like you dish out the Sony-hate but you are pansiis when it comes right back at you. Grow some thicker skin.

Maybe i am expecting too much, but wasn't there a day when companies released consoles without fatal errors?

The red ring of death for 360, the red light and beeping for PS3, fatal error 110213 for Wii...combined with other stupid problems like not being able to meet demand (or even come close - I'm looking at you PS3)

I have not payed as much attention to other console launches in the past as much as I have to the launch of this generation: were there problems like this with consoles last generation?
Were people experiencing these types of errors with their PS2s, Xbox's, and Gamecubes?

Or did it suddenly become okay for companies to release hardware despite the fact that some consoles may have huge errors?

I am putting this all into the category of "reasons not to buy at launch" but, frankly, I don't feel like I should have to.
Buying at launch, there should be a little risk in adopting a new console, but the risk should never be "will my console turn out to have horrible errors?"

Well, I guess Nintendo can just toss all affected users a new Wii, but what a waste.

I'm one of the lucky few in the unknown percentage, but thankfully Nintendo followed through with little to no hassle and is sending me a new Wii in 3-6 days. Curious is that my order status on nintendo.com is "Backordered." I think I should get first in line, if you ask me.

As soon as many members of the media have problems with their Wii breaking, I'll consider it bad news. Until then, it's just a normal error.

I didn't really care much about the 360 breaks until over half of the IGN office had problems with their 360s and the ring of death, then it was news. There's no way IGN got that unlucky to get that many broken consoles unless there truly was a widespread problem.

54, >, This "fnaboi" (whose name is spelled with a y, not ie) has never posted anything on joystiq negative about sony, and don't really care when people badmouth Wii, because I know I am having fun with mine.

but what do I know, I'm just a stupid fnaboi.

Its no big deal beacuse Nintendo will send you a box with free shipping and return you a new unit in under a week. Just like Microsoft did with the 360, and no one complained about that right?

I had this error, and Nintendo is sending me a new one. However, you do need to give them some CC info in case you don't send your defective unit back. The guy on the phone was very nice and generous and quickly admitted their fault in it, not being accusatory like so many other Customer Service people can be. At least it wasn't like M$, saying after the Xbox 360 came out that youd need to wait 4-6 weeks for a new system

I havent' connected my unit to the 'net yet, and I'm glad I didn't know. I think I'm just going to wait this out a few months [I have no wireless interenet atm anyway] and wait for them to make the update not corrupt units..

At least Nintendo is fessing up to the issue that this update caused... Microsoft's Fall Update has been causing issues for many users (see this forum http://forums.xbox.com/7864073/ShowPost.aspx) and they refuse to even acknowledge that the update caused these issues... Now I won't even turn on my 360 until they post some sort of resolution...

I think I might have this problem I'm getting that error number but I can still send and receive messages to my cell phone through my wii I guess I'll call customer support and see what's going on. My sytem also checks for a new update and knows it is up to date so the only thing that doesn't seem to work is the shop channel. Not a big deal for me I can wait for the VC games as long as i can still play all the others.

Oh and everyone should ignore > He's just a pasty over weight hipocritical fanboy who makes his sad little life better by making people angry I think it's kind of funny.

Bottom line, it sucks to be an early adopter. These days, the consumer is the beta tester. The big three just send out updates after the consumers complain. Too bad none of them will spend the time and money to properly test their products before distribution.

Well mine couldn't connect and I think it did say some kind of error but I thought that that might be because I had no special hook-up for it or something like that.

My router is not on channel 1 or 11 and I have not experienced any problems. Firmware updated fine, system restarted and I've had no problems whatsoever. It's not entirely the wireless router channel that's the issue. It's probably either bad flash chips in some of the systems, older firmware that isn't compatible with the flashing update, or people who think it's taking to long to download that turn off the console. It takes two updates to flash the firmware correctly and then you're good to go.
