"Giving such close grades to systems seems more like a cop-out."

I suppose it is out of the question that the consoles might actually be that close in comparison to one another? Also, how is it you turn things that are said in a positive light about the 360 into negatives?

I place as much stock in EW's game reviews as I would put into Joystiq if they were to begin reviewing power tools.

You may draw your own conclusions on my meaning.

You know, I love how a decade ago the mass media couldn't care less about videogames, now everybody and their mother has an opinion. What next, Oprah chimes in with her weekly gaming picks. Is the movie industry that much in the gutter that EW has fill up magazine space with topics they know absolutely nothing about.

Oobgarm, I'm going to have to say that at least the fact that Geoff Keighley was part of the review team means that I'll take this opinion over yours.

What will really matter in a year from now are these items:

1. Does the system do what you were hoping for (working as advertised)? This is more technical issues, like can it hook up to your tv set properly, do the controls work as advertised, and do the games take advantage of whatever strengths your console has to offer?
2. Did the games you were hoping for come out on the system you purchased?
3. Did the system malfunction or in any other way cause you to spend more money on it than is reasonable?

I guess a title here or there that is not available on your system should not be a huge negative cause all 3 will have some exclusives. I'm hoping this time around there are not as many because it really is silly to have to buy 3 pieces of hardware to get all the games you like. Since the Wii is so different, I can see where you could get 2 systems to cover all your gaming needs, but people should not feel compelled to buy both a 360 and a ps3. That's like buying a gaming pc from alienware and dell because certain PC games play on one and not the other.

Um, Viva Pnata is not jsut for the "family friendly" set. It is one of the most fun, addictive, well put together games created since the turn of the century.

Don't be fooled by the dorky packaging. There is more sex, incest, violence, canibalism, sadism, inter-species orgies and dismemberment than probibily any game ever created. No joke!

I like how they conveniently ignore the need of an HDTV with the 360 due to it's occasional display problems on an SD set.

This article matters because mom and grandma are going to the store come black-Friday and there is a good possibility a lot of parents read this article. This is the type of review that puts the 360 out there as the large present under the tree.

What 360 game besides Dead Rising (which has "problems" only due to the game developer being lazy, not a technical issue itself) has issues with standard displays?

This article isn't telling us anything new, but I pretty mucha agree with it. All the positive stuff I've heard about Viva Pinata makes me want to check it out.

I have 2 of the 3 systems so far and agree with this article. The 360 has had a year to work out the bugs and get some AAA titles on it. The PS3 is nice and shinny but reminds me of the PSP so far. Real cool tech but not games yet. There are one or two but come on. No one really has said it yet but I will, THE MOOTION CONTROLS ON THE PS3 SUCK ASS! At least on the Motostorm demo and the other games ive played on it. I will say that the online store is a great step in the right direction and the downloadable demos rock! Every system should have that (ARE YOU LISTENING BIG N?).
I have yet to get my hands on a WII but the PS3 motion controlls are making me a try it before I buy it person on that system. I think it has better games than the PS3 right now but im not sure the staying power of the system. It looks really dated compared to the graphics of the 360 and the Ps3 but then again so does my DS compared to my PSP and I love the DS 1000000 times better.

You can go back an forth with thos rating things about consoles. In the end the customer has to decided which consoles he likes the best !

But everyone got to admit that there are currently more reasons to buy a 360 than a PS3, if its only the price point ! i mean comon 600 bucks is in my eyes pretty freakin expensive. And i would bet that most of the people out there don't have an HDTV ! The new consoles are in my eyes only realy intresting if you own a HDTV otherwise its not that big of an expirience.

Greets straight from the fatherland Germany !

PEACE out !

I guess we have to wait a few years to see what's Beyond Thunderdome for the Playstation 3. Graphic aside, I still love the Wii

Just as developers have been saying all along the 360 and PS3 are just about equal so it comes down to what you want software wise and also if Blu Ray movies interests you. For me im definitely getting a PS3 purely for the RPGs and other games that will be released for it.

Aside from Zelda there isn't yet a compelling reason to be a Wii. Pretty poor launch lineup but then that's the 3rd party developers fault.

"9. I like how they conveniently ignore the need of an HDTV with the 360 due to it's occasional display problems on an SD set."

Uh yeah. It was Dead Rising that had the problem NOT the 360 moron. Capcom didn't test the game on SD sets.
You DO know the interwebs can be used for finding facts and not just porn right?

Just remember, people, it's a marathon, not a sprint. You're not buying a console for today; you're buying it for the next five years.

This is 2001 all over again. Heck, I even wrote several negative PS2 articles myself that year, as most people were on a PS2-bashing, Dreamcast-promoting bandwagon those days. Didn't seem to matter much in the end, and it was less than a year before it became apparent where the industry was headed. And it wasn't the direction most of the press and industry insiders had thought it was going to.

One thing about this industry is its unpredictability. If you *were* going to make generalizations, though, it almost seems as if the console with the best press at any given time is the one that does the worst in the marketplace long-term. People like to root for the underdog. Unfortunately, in the real world, the underdog rarely actually wins.

I would like to see this done a year and a half down the line. The PS3 has alot of the issues that the 360 had a year to work out, so time will tell what it turns out to be. As for the Wii, after playing a few games, I still keep asking myself "Is 'different' necessarily better?" Sure the party games are fun, but the biggest and best games of the last gen were not party games. Zelda is a gamecube game, pushed back to add wii controls.

But personally, there is more to look forward to from the Wii and the PS3 than there is for the 360. We already know the one card up MS's sleeve, and its Halo 3. But both sony and Nintendo have a great deal of exclusives yet to come out, that will prove their system's worth.

"Hopefully by this time next year we'll get a real verdict from EW."

Why will we care what EW says any more a year from now than we do now?

Still wondering how many actually get the Playstation 3 before Christmas and how many will wait until after Christmas.

Check the prices they are going for now and prices are still rising.

Obviously the 360 has a leg up on the competition. I don't need anyone - especially EW - to tell me this. No console in recent memory have launched flawlessly with tons of great games.

Well im glad to see the sony fan base out there how ever as someone has already said the internet can be used to look up facts not just porn . That being said perhaps you should look up game for game reviews from ps3 to 360 it seems that they are all much lower rating on the ps3 compared to the 360 even the titles that have always been sony launch titles and as far as the exclusives 360 is way out weighing the bakestation
not just halo and gow either as far as rpg look up mass effect and then talk trash or maybe bioshock how about forza 2 and the connectivity from my cell controlling paint my pc controlling engine etc and then coming home to drive my new car. Did I mention pausing my Zuma game on the 360 and then picking it up on the pc pausing again and picking it up on my cell phone. all seemless You did watch E3 right? well this debate is boring me so im going to go watch One of the 6 seasons of south park. On my 360 while chatting with friend in england and downloading 6 things enque not one at atime and stare my screen have fun. Hope fully i dont have to turn ps3 upside down like my ps1 itll look silly . PS my friends ps3 is aklready scratched (alot)just from dusting it once nice finish sony.
