From PSone to PSP, via PS3: a Sony love triangle

We logged in to the Japanese PlayStation Store this morning and found nine PSone games available for download to our dusty PSP -- and at only ¥525 (US$4.50) per title. The selection includes two volumes of Konami's MSX Collection, the Director's Cut of Biohazard, as well as "lost classics" Jumping Flash and Bishi Bashi Special (so that's where we left them!). The smallest file sizes among these nine launch titles, if we can call them that, are 40MB each for the Konami Antiques MSX Collections. The full list of games and their tuned-for-PSP file sizes:
- Arc the Lad (320MB)
- Biohazard Director's Cut (380MB)
- Bishi Bashi Special (160MB)
- Jumping Flash (280MB)
- Konami Antiques MSX Collection Vol. 1 (40MB)
- Konami Antiques MSX Collection Vol. 2 (40MB)

- Silent Bomber (200MB)
- Tekken 2 (550MB)

I'm really trying to think of a title I'd like to have available for download. I shudder to think how big the Final Fantasy file sizes will be. As is, none of these titles are making me long for the ability to download.
Does anyone has a list consisting of what future titles we can expext?

None of those would have fit on an N64 cartridge, and yet they cost half of what Nintendo is charging for an N64 game on the Wii.
Wii fanboys will end up paying more than PS3 owners with all the Wiimotes, attachments (not just the nunchuck), VC controller, VC games, and Gamecube remakes suited for the Wiimote. But I guess Nintendo has to recoup the cost of overproducing N64 cartridges, so that's why they are so expensive.
Poor fanboys. Wait, don't flame me, I forgot it isn't cool to criticize Nintendo and that I should be anti-Sony.

Possibly one of the best features to be added to the PSP and PS3 simultaneously. Nintendo HAS to acknowledge their VC games cost too much. I expect VC game prices to drop to competitive rates within 6 months. Hell, they could put them out there for free, and it's not like they would be losing anything.

Only $804.50 plus tax, but I'd be able to play Konami MSX collection wherever I go!
(that being said, if I had a psp and access to a ps3 and these games were available here, I would be leaving work early to buy jumping flash. man was that a good game)

That's quite a nonsense comment really. It's like saying "You'd buy a CD player to play Beatles albums? What is wrong with all of you?"
Just because they're old games, doesn't mean they're defunct and not worthy of play. The biggest travesty in the gaming industry is that you CAN'T readily play great games after (say) a five year window of opportunity.

Bishi Bashi is an awesome game! One of the first 'Minigame' games I ever played, with hundreds of rhythm and pattern games, all lasting about 7-8 seconds, it's an amazing party game... This was likely a big influence on the 'Mario Party' games, but without all that that board-game moving around nonsense.

Heh, love that game. Already own a copy for the PSOne though. $4.50 is about what it's worth, due to the length of the game.

only if they buy all those things. i plan on getting a wii and an extra wiimote+nunchuck for my girlfriend to use. grand total of $300 (before games). my friends already have wiis or are getting them, so i'm gonna assume when we play 4 player, they'll bring their wiimotes. they'll want to anyway because you can save your gamer profile on them.
i have no plans to buy old NES games for a home console as i still have my NES. buying/emulating old games for the PSP (or DS) is interesting and worth it because it's portable. but i doubt i'll veer buy a retro game for the PS3 or Wii or 360. NEW games, or ones that are improved with internet multiplay, sure, but if it's just the same game i had ten years ago and still own, nah.

The only reason I didn't sell my psp years ago was because of the PSone games they claimed to be releasing. Well, I hope they come to America soon without the need of a PS3. I have to admit my love of sony has greatly waned over the past couple years...

You could buy a 360, an old playstation from ebay and a ds from all that money.

who the fuck should care. I myself am getting Super Metroid and Earthbound on WiiVC, but that is not a selling point. You should all be saying "I'll play GTA:LCS,VCS and... PS1 games? lol I am happy with my purchase!" This will not help, since most PSP owners have emulators for many systems, including PS1.

Being someone who owns a PSP and has Custom Firmware 3.03 OE-C on it, i can play converted PSX titles without a PS3 as it is. I reccomend that anyone who wants to buy a PSP for the PSX titles puts on Dark_Alex's CF and get a big memory stick! I have and the graphics look way better on a small PSP screen than they did on the bigger TV screens!
