Microsoft announced today that Epic's Gears of War sold 1 million copies worldwide in only two weeks, making it the fastest selling Xbox 360 title to date. The company also claims the game managed to double the rate of Xbox Live Gold subscriptions (!) with more than 85 percent of game owners playing online in some form. That's tiger fast and "very, very, very rewarding!" But was anyone expecting a slow selling Gears? Two-fold Gold subscriptions are a bit of a surprise, however, despite the free 48-hour trial of Xbox Live Gold.
UPDATE: Savvy commenters remind us that the rate of Xbox Gold subscriptions has doubled not total numbers. It should also be noted that most, if not all, copies of the game include a free 48-hour trial of Xbox Live Gold.
