Hello Moto @ Nov 22nd 2006 8:09PM
It would seem that the gamecube controller ($20) is a much better deal then a full set of Wii controller s($80). Good to know that that Wii is much less epensive to fully outfit then I thought.
The H @ Nov 22nd 2006 8:13PM
wii controllers = free. comes with the system. classic controller = 20. cube controller = 15-30, depending on what kind you get (used, wavebird, new, etc.)
Yesus @ Nov 22nd 2006 8:20PM
How are you suppose to play the ocarina without c buttons?
Juan @ Nov 22nd 2006 8:23PM
@3, the yellow "analogue" stick on the GC acts as a slightly fiddly version of the C-buttons, simply push it in the direction of the C-button you require. not sure about the classic controller or wiimote :) hth.
iceatcs @ Nov 22nd 2006 8:24PM
Wii VC has been hacked, now you can play with your roms.
By using GC ActionReplay with SDload.
Try save your money from rip off VC.
Optimus Prime @ Nov 22nd 2006 8:24PM
Dont forget; no rumble with N64 with either controller.
Mike @ Nov 22nd 2006 8:36PM
I don't understand why Gamecube games can't be played with the Classic Controller, there are more than enough buttons. I never owned a Gamecube but thought about buying the Zelda games that were released for it now that I have a Wii. Rather than purchase a Wavebird (only wireless for me now) I was hoping I could use the Classic Controller, but I guess not.
BlessedBullet @ Nov 22nd 2006 8:37PM
Saved me 20 bucks.. I thought the classic controller could play Gamecube games.
Fish @ Nov 22nd 2006 8:38PM
Thanks for pointing that out Optimus Prime, but if some people are willing to sit in line for a week, to buy a console that doesn't support rumble in any game, I think us Wiifans will be fine :)
Here's what I play my (non-n64) VC games with:
http://www.nintendospin.com/images/975/ss01.jpg
You all know you want one :P
Charron @ Nov 22nd 2006 8:38PM
Mike- could be that, when the console goes into GC mode, all the Wii features disable. So it won't recognize the Wii controller and hence the Classic controller.
Nohbdy @ Nov 22nd 2006 8:40PM
iceatcs, don't be a douchebag and let Nintendo know we want more VC games you cheapskate.
Optimus Prime @ Nov 22nd 2006 8:53PM
LOL fish.. actually i had a Wii preorder which i sold to someone else. I was getting it only for Zelda, but, the reviews blew it for me.. its the same game as OoT with more monkeys. The graphics arent even that much better; its more of a first gen. GC game and its still using MIDI tracks coming into 2007.
And, im not interested in mini/party-games or any other Nintendo franchise.
Fish @ Nov 22nd 2006 9:06PM
Optimus Prime, I never hinted that you had any interest in getting a Wii. I mean, afterall, if Sony, the most revered maker of game consoles can exclude rumble in every title, surely Nintendo excluding it in some downloadable games can't be so bad? Shouldn't rumble's lack of importance be evident after Sony decided to forego it?
And with regards to your feelings about Zelda, I'm sorry you can't get over the graphics and enjoy this wonderful game. It's just a shame that a game can't be any good without at least 1080 horizontal rows of pixels displayed simultaneously. Has my laughter and joy of Zelda and Wii Sports with friends been a farce? I'm begining to believe it has.
corn_fest @ Nov 22nd 2006 9:14PM
>_>
you can't use the Gamecube controller for Wii games...
PandaPanda @ Nov 22nd 2006 9:16PM
You know what's pretty cool, Optimus Prime? Everything Sony makes.
Fish @ Nov 22nd 2006 9:18PM
Actually, you can corn_fest. I believe SSBB's director (who's Japanese name I'd botch if I didn't look it up) said "don't throw those gamecube controlers away just yet" or something to that effect.
Also, I THINK, don't quote me, but there's already at least 1 Wii game that can use the GC controler.
Optimus Prime @ Nov 22nd 2006 9:24PM
I forgot to add; i have a GC, so, most likely be picking ZTP up for that.. for me, its not worth $250 dollars and the GC controllers are just fine.
This game should have been out 2 years ago; its amazing what you can do if you keep delaying and delaying a game. But, nintendo knows their fans will always be there, and so they can get away with shit like this.
As for the lack of rumble; i will take 1080p over rumble + 480p any day, thanks.
Fish @ Nov 22nd 2006 9:33PM
I'd much rather have a delayed good game, than a rushed mediocre game. But, that's just me. Besides, wasn't Zelda supposed to be out last year? Not 2 years ago?
Regardless, I agree with your on the 1080p over 480p with rumble, but why's it gotta be one or the other? I think that's the point most people are trying to make.
But if I wasn't excited for the Wii controls of Zelda as much as I am, I'd definitely go your route.. hold out until something more worthwhile comes along, like Metroid Prime 3, Mario Galaxy, or Smash Brothers, assuming you're interested in those.
Matt @ Nov 22nd 2006 9:36PM
GC controller works for EVERYTHING. there are NO games out that don't support the GC controller - sorry to bust your bubble.
Juan @ Nov 22nd 2006 9:40PM
@fish, call me a n00b if you must, and you probably must, but what's the controller you linked to there? it looks like a highly sexualised piece of black plastic and i should like to get my fingers on its sleek curves.
ChrisL @ Nov 22nd 2006 9:40PM
I'll take 1200 with keyboard + mouse over 1080p with lame gamepad controls all day long. Finally I'll do so just about as cheaply, as well.
Fish @ Nov 22nd 2006 9:47PM
Juan,
It's called the "Hori Digital Controler". It's (obviously :) ) shaped like an SNES controler, but plugs into the Gamecube controler ports. I bought it for my Gameboy Player, and it works great on some GCN games as well (Viewtiful Joe, and Soul Calibur). HIGHLY recommended. Of course, they never released it stateside, so you'll have to ebay it, which is how I got it.
ChrisL,
And I'll take playing with friends, in person, and sitting on my couch over sitting less than 2 feet away from the screen by myself, in a dark room, with headphones on.
Erwos @ Nov 22nd 2006 10:29PM
What happened to the standard fanbot line about "no one will ever produce stuff that relies on non-bundled controllers?"
Josh Clark @ Nov 22nd 2006 10:44PM
@Fish
I have one, too. Indigo, though. Lik-Sang was all out, and eBay only had one black, but it was much more expensive. I gotta say, it is an amazing controller. Couple it with a GCN to USB adapter and emulators get that much better. Too bad the Trio Linker I got from Lik-Sang is dying.
(By the way, my friends suck so bad at TimeSplitters 2 that when I play, I use that controller as a handicap. [Yay, fully-customizable controls.] I still crush them, though.)
Johnny Andre @ Nov 23rd 2006 1:28AM
Why no Genesis love?
Teh Destroyer @ Nov 23rd 2006 2:13AM
So you need all three controllers to fully use the VC. Good to know. And yet another reason why I'm not buying a wii.
Club @ Nov 23rd 2006 4:18AM
I have the Hori controller too, it's awesome. That GCN to USB adapter sounds great, any help on finding it would be appreciated!
Club @ Nov 23rd 2006 4:27AM
I found it, sadly it's not Mac compatible :(
phipscube @ Nov 23rd 2006 4:50AM
This is just.... A MESS!! Are you serious, you have to fart around figuring out which controller works with what VC system/Game Cube/Wii?
MESSY! Especially the VC!
I thought it was bad enough having a stupid wire between the Wiimote and chuck. and dangly addon Classic controller.
MESS MESS MESS!!
Chris @ Nov 23rd 2006 5:21AM
Pelican makes a similar controller to the Hori one, and GameStop carries them for $7. Definitely worth picking up.
tonma @ Nov 23rd 2006 7:01AM
It's not a mess, just buy a damn Game Cube controller and you're all set for Virtual Console.
I can believe there's people not smart enough to figure that chart out.
Tobias @ Nov 23rd 2006 9:36AM
GC Games do not work for all VC games. I bought a cheap third part GC controller and downloaded F-zero. It would not let me play- asked me to plug in the classic controller. Was I doing something wrong or is it because its a third-party GC controller?
csjenova @ Nov 23rd 2006 11:34AM
So Nintendo delays a game for a year so they can include the functionality of their new system into Zelda, which is awesome imo, and they are being jerks to their fan base. Meanwhile, Sony releases a system that is very cool, and very powerful, but also very out of the price range of a large portion of its fanbase, which then proceeds to scare away some developers, but they are the most fan friendly company ever? And you can't tell me a similar story isn't out there for Microsoft. Backwards compatability anyone? Every game company is going to make decisions that disenfranchises some of its fanbase, so stop QQing about it and just buy the system you want to.
Kevin @ Nov 23rd 2006 2:41PM
"26. So you need all three controllers to fully use the VC. Good to know. And yet another reason why I'm not buying a wii.
Posted at 2:12AM on Nov 23rd 2006 by Teh Destroyer"
You need the wiimote and a classic OR gamecube controller to play all VC games.
Komrade Kayce @ Nov 23rd 2006 3:48PM
I dont know if anyone has noticed, but there have been quite a few pro sonys running around here lately.
Must be because Resistance: Fall of Man is only entertaining for so long before you run out of launch titles to occupy your time.
The Nintendo fans, on the other hand, for the most part are all sore and fueled on energy drinks and dont have time for joystiq right now. I know I am. One week of play... doing Wii Sports fitness once a day, plus constant boxing, Ive never felt so exercised from video games ever.
Ive even cut my sleep down to four hours a night to get more wii in. Trauma Center is wayyyy better on the wii (at least for me) than it was on the DS. On the DS, I constantly accidentally stylus slipped and hurt my patient. On the wii, its a rare occurance when my scapel slips into a patients heart (killing him) instead of making a proper incision elsehwere.
Oh yeah. Ive got most of the wii vc games... bompberman 93 having FIVE players at once makes it so worth it.
CYRiX @ Nov 25th 2006 5:29PM
So basically go buy a used wavebird for cheap.
w0rf @ Dec 1st 2006 2:29PM
"So basically go buy a used wavebird for cheap."
Ex-ACT-ly.
Need all three controllers, my ass.
fanboy-n-proud @ Dec 5th 2006 10:35AM
I've heard nothing on this yet, BUT...... will my Mario Party 7 mic still work with the GC memory slot on the wii???
Jacob @ Dec 23rd 2006 4:56PM
About the chart, shouldn't it say Partial for the GCN and VC controllers on Wii? After all, those controllers don't play all Wii games.
Also, GCN controllers can be used for all VC games AS LONG AS you don't include some Turbografx-16 and Genesis games.
