Xbox live is what... $50 per year? The 360 that isn't a piece of shit is $400. Use the system with xbox live for 4 years (until the next big microshaft system) and you've paid $600.
This is assuming that the cost for live does not increase at all for four years. Not likely, but for the sake of arguement I'll say that the price is set in stone.
PS3 is about $600 new. The online stuff is cost included. Use the sytem with the online feature for 4 years and it still costs $600.
It's like getting a free HD-DVD/Blueray player. This makes sony and netflix my friend.

to 83:
It makes perfect sense to promote the d/ling of tv shows. Offer them no more than 24 hours after the show airs and you'll have folks like me watching Heroes on the PS3.
d/ling HD movies s simply ludacris. I do not have a fiber connection plugged into my house. The folks over at penny-arcade.com have a conection so fast that it could "download out lord jesus christ," so they say. They tell of un-godly lag trying to download from Live and having ro restart the d/l a million times. (it's called hyperbole. look it up before you go off on your flaming wars)
In short, HD tv-shows for the d/ling=yummy. Get yourself a cheep netflix for the HD movies.

For those of you whining about the HD size, there is an 80 gig version on the horizon... 70 of which will be available for consumer use. That's larger than the 60 gigs Sony is providing... of which I would assume 50 or so is accessible. And the Wii will not do anything like this ever. It doesn't even allow you to play DVD movies. Nintendo is about games and games only.

Oh... and good luck finding a PS3. With roughly only 150,000 units available in the US and less than half a million world wide, Sony is set up for failure. They are already talking of putting Metal Gear 4 on the 360 because there simply aren't enough PS3 consoles for game developers to make a profit. Why do you think Assassin's Creed is 360 bound now? The PS3 will have its place, but it shouldn't even have launched yet in my opinion. I'll wait for it to be $300 and for Parappa 3 or Um Jammer Lammy 2.

Movie and TV prices are reasonable but the 24 hour limit for viewing the movies sucks. I can get a movie from blockbuster and keep it for two weeks for the same price that I pay to watch these. It's great if you're drunk and don't want to drive anywhere though.

very neat idea, though i have yet to even purchase a 360. planning on getting one though. i am generally an ms fan. i would like to take this opportunity to explain y i believe ms has done a great job without being biased or name-calling anyone. this is the facts right here. 600 and 500 for a ps3 that no one can buy except on ebay? so basically if u want it, forget it for now. ps3 has an utter lack of a network. if your going to have online play, u need to have a dedicated network! this should have been learned previously from the past. sony apparently doesn't think that gaming and consoles are headed to all-around entertainment machines. anyone who has played socom on ps2 knows the crappy network issues u have to deal with, you think ps3 will be any different? not without a dedicated service to connect to. sony's got the cash and it just boggles the mind y this wouldn't be implemented by now. online anything is the future, not just gaming. ms has it right. offering movies, music, tv shows, or any type of digital media is a brilliant idea. whether you purchase it or not, u can't deny what a great business move it is on their end. i do however think they should have bigger hdd availble for this type of content but that will come soon enough. i also don't like the points idea but i can see from a business standpoint y one would do such a thing. they are hoping your shitty at math. also the concept of people spending points rather than actually seeing the dollars will make people more likely to purchase it. "oh it's only 240 points, i'll buy it" or "it's 3 bucks, ehh i'm not really sure about that". which sounds better? that's just banking on idiots much like some sellers on ebay do and the fact is, it works. also i think the loading times on ps3 are significantly longer than the 360 and that has always bothered me. in closing the ps3 did some interesting extremes: too much and too little. too much because the blue ray player put the price way too high imho and too little because there isn't a dedicated network for online gaming. xbox 360: the balanced gaming machine. do-able price, great games, graphics, media capabilities and options (not requirements) for upgradeability. btw, the reason the wii was not mentioned here is it is not a direct competitor for either of these machines. everything about the wii screams, "its' own market". innovative controllers, cheap price, so-so graphics. it is intentionally made this way...good idea for nintendo. your comments are welcome on this matter. let me know what you think guys.
