This reminds me of the 360 disc scratch video I saw 2 weeks after the 360 launch. The guy puts in a disk, and my moving it slighty, it creates two circular gashes in the disk. (of which I have experienced firsthand, my brother moved his 360 while it was on to move a cord out of the way, and he heard the most god-awful sound. He ejected the disk, his call of Duty 2 had to scowered rings in it. Now he can ONLY play Single player.)

Moral... All launches have issues, and it seems that this gen, not even nintendo is immune.

Is it supposed to suck the disc in like that? All the slot loading drives I've seen require you push the disc almost completely in before it sucks it in the rest of the way.

It's like watching a fat person get stuck in a door frame :D

Wasn't the 360 recently a subject of an annoyance article because it didn't have this feature?

I feel these guys pain. When I got a ps2 for Christmas a few years ago. Mine turned on and just crashed. I did return it and got another one, but still that shouldn't be happening a year after the thing comes out. well when I get my ps3 in the spring I won't have this problem, hopefully.

I like how various website try to align this single ps3' issue in the same category as the wii's firmware failures + failing wrist straps aswell as the massive issues that afflicted the 360 (and the more recent firmware troubles) up until now the ps3 has had alot less issues than anyone predicted (seems there are issues with the bluetooth signal every once in a while and now it seems one lone ps3 is on a diet)

"Wasn't the 360 recently a subject of an annoyance article because it didn't have this feature?"

Close, it was a PS3 delight (apparently) when everyone of us pointed out its actually a BAD thing to have slot loaders due to reasons such as this.

Also, I POSTED the link to that video in that thread (or another PS3 V 360 one) about 2 days ago and no-one mentioned it. Glad it got an official airing it needs to be shown.

@7

The Wii disc loader takes the disc at about that far in if not even less so the positioning looks fine.

@20

Sony will have its fair share of issues once they actually have units in circulation. as of now there are fairly low amounts of ps3s actually being used whereas the number of firmware issues + wrist straps are EXTREMELY minimal on Nintendo's part considering the number of consoles sold. Nowhere near the fiasco of the ring of death on the 360

to #3 --scratched disk was not an MS issue.
The manual clearly tells you not to move the console while on and with a disk in it. That is what we know as user error.

I know sony design there system to only last a short while, so that you buy the smaller version they release a couple of years after the initial launch, but a PS3 that breaks straight away, that's just just plain conspicuous.

I'm saving up for another one, hopefully this one will work properly.

I work at Best Buy, and our display PS3 has been freezing, crashing, and resetting itself. After a few days of unlocking everything and resetting it and whatnot, we've given up on it.

all three systems had issues, and im not denying them. but this is the first disc problem i've seen for the ps3, and i call bs.

And this is why I prefer top loaders any day. Trays and self-loading bays can potentially be troublesome. How do you clean the lens if you have to? What if the disc gets stuck inside? Functionality over style for me.

LOL!! This is exactly what happened to my friends PS3 two hours after hooking it up.

You wanna talk about someone losing their temper? I eventually had to leave because I began fearing for my own life. He still had the additional warranty, but you Sony folk tend to get a little touchy about your consoles. (Want proof? the PS3 launch has been the only console launch I've seen in my almost 4 decades of gaming, where people have actually gotten mugged or shot simply waiting to buy a one.)

Sony - you helped invent the optical disc medium, and it seems all your systems hate them for some reason.
