TriMet pulled controversial ads for the video game Grand Theft Auto from the sides of 15 trains last weekend after some riders complained that the ads, like the game, encouraged violence and crime.

The video game allowed players to become a hardened criminal, stealing cars, shooting police and killing innocent bystanders.

TriMet said it does not accept ads that promote or encourage illegal activity. After a review, the transit agency decided to pull the ads, saying the national agency who purchased the ad space didn’t alert them to the game’s nature.

The canceled contract for the ads is a loss of just over $71,000 for TriMet.

Officials at TriMet said they have added an extra review process to make sure ads like this don’t slip through in the future.
