They could make it less painful. Once one of your friends enters your Wii code, your Wii should say, you've been added to a friend's Wii, if you want to be able to communicate, click yes, if not, click no, or block them.

The popular instant messaging protocols do this, why can't the Wii? You've got kids using them all the time.
