Micro Center extends Xbox 360 rebate thru holidays
Micro Center has extended the length of its $100 Xbox 360 mail-in rebate. Through December 31, an in-store* purchase of either the Xbox 360 Premium or Core console will come with the rebate offer.Micro Center recently expanded its console gaming department and is using the rebate to lure sales away from its competitors. With a sizeable number of Xbox 360s in stock this holiday, Micro Center has conveniently declared Xbox 360 models to be "the premier game console gifts this season." Marketing spin? Definitely. But this is still a darn good deal.
*There are only 19 Micro Center locations in the US.

I live 30ish minutes from one...still unsure if I can warrant this purchase!
I am quite content with my Wii :D

I actually did try to pick up this deal though 2 weeks ago and they were sold out of consoles. Still dosn't beat the amazon deal that I scored though.

Cool! There's one in Fairfax, 10 minutes from my office. Looks like a little side trip is in order...
BlindsideDork @ Nov 27th 2006 3:49PM
The one I am from is in Fairfax too! But 360 needs more games for me to decide to dish out the money for it...
Pal @ Nov 27th 2006 4:40PM
My girlfriend's family lives near Fairfax and I tried to convince her to go while she visited for the holidays...but to no avail. Ah!
TB @ Nov 27th 2006 4:41PM
More games? They have 148 games and more games scheduled to be released than any other console in 2007. Here's a smarter purchase for your games selection, get a wii. lol.
number40one @ Nov 27th 2006 4:47PM
jimminy.... I just found out that there's a Micro Center in Santa Clara.
hrm.
Do I dare? I just got my Wii last week, and I dunno if I've got the time for another console right now. If they were doing this five or six months ago or five or six months from now, I'd jump on it.
dorkusmalorkus @ Nov 27th 2006 4:54PM
i hate that store in fairfax. they dont know sh*t about computers or anything they sell. i've had nothing but problems whenever i've been forced to deal with one of their employees. however, this is still a good deal!
Eric Bostrom @ Nov 27th 2006 4:57PM
I read that someone who did this microcenter deal ended up with a used/refurbed model. Is that true? Are these new units?
Battledrill @ Nov 27th 2006 5:00PM
I jumped at this after being so frustrated with lining up and not finding a wii. After I get the rebate for the premium system, i will of only payed $50 dollars more than the wii. I still plan on paying for a Wii next year but this deal was too good to pass up. The Tustin/Irvine location had about 800 Premium and 60 Core units still available. I doubt the Xbox 360 will have a price drop anytime soon so dont pass this up. Also they had a deal where if you applied for a credit card you got another $100 reimbursed. My Credit sucks so I did not bother.

I'm in about this area. No interest in a 360, but good to know one of these stores is closeby for me to pick up future bargains like this.

I fully agree with the hate for the Fairfax store from no. 8. Buying a laptop from them was an experience from hell that I wouldn't ever want to repeat. The employees knew absolutely nothing about laptops and could only read me the specs. When I wanted any clarification on anything they would just repeat me the specs on the card right in front of me over and over. After deciding on one, I am not exaggerating when I was offered a service plan at least 30 times. The employee even brought over a manager and another employee to try to strong arm me into buying a warranty. After about 20 minutes of explaining I didn't want a warranty, then there was the 20 minutes of trying to sell me laptop accessories. When they finally let me get to the register and the cashier tried to convince me to buy a warranty I had had it and just started a stream of obscenities at the employees around me. I can tolerate the EB employees telling me about pre-orders since they only do it once and forget about it. It shouldn't take me 2 hours to buy a laptop when I come into the store only considering 3 different laptops.

^^^what are you talking about theres a ton of games for 360 now

#9. I had actually heard the same thing from a friend of mine who picked one up. I too jumped on this deal and unless we get an anonymous MicroCenter employee to post otherwise, I'm thinking they are not refurbs.
I asked 2 MC employees at 2 different times and they both responded "NO" without any hesitation whatsoever. I'm not saying they weren't lying to me, but body language will ALMOST always betray you. Their's told me that either:
A) they're telling the truth
B) they themselves don't know so they just assume they are not refurbs
C) they are highly-trained Jack Bauer clones, with the ability to deceive people at the drop of a hat.

I got this deal in Tustin/Irvine last Sunday. I applied for the credit card to get the $100 off. I send in the rebate form to get another $100 mail in rebate. 399.99 + tax = 432.99 minus $100 cash back, minus $100 mail in rebate. I got the one year extended warranty to have a piece of mind about the overheating and other problems with the xbox 360s i keep hearing on the net. That's $264 after I get the rebate and cash back for a premium. I think that beats the $100 core amazon deal considering you gotta buy a wireless controller, component cables, a harddrive and a headset plus a one year extended warranty. You can't get the chrome disc tray on a core system.

I see no such extension to the rebate on Microcenter's web site: http://www.microcenter.com/rebates/rebate_list.phtml?sku=892778
Can anyone confirm?
Kevin @ Nov 28th 2006 3:23PM
I purchased an Xbox 360 from the Micro Center in Cambridge, MA last week. It is a brand new unit, not refurb. Great deal, but doesn't change the fact that Micro Center sucks, it's prices are ridiculous, and the employees are usually rude and/or less knowledgable than the customers.
pentapenguin @ Nov 28th 2006 5:31PM
I'm curious/skeptical as well since there's no update on the Micro Center site.
The two places to look:

Confirming what #15 stated - At Irvine I bought the premium and scored the extra $100 off (in form of a rebate check AFTER the Visa Worldpoints post). Was also told that if I signed up for Vonage (already have the service) , I'd get another $200 off - basically $60 large (tax) for a 360 premium.
BUT - they could not confirm the rebate extension, and they are down to their last pallet of premiums and half a pallet of core units..
all the units are new..

I picked one up at Tustin last Wednesday and got to play it over Thanksgiving. Pretty sweet deal...the store itself isn't that bad either...pretty much a smaller version of Fry's. I ended up getting the service plan too.
Tim @ Dec 11th 2006 10:31AM
I just picked one up at the Fairfax VA store. They probably had 50 more sitting there if anyone's near that area.
mikey @ Dec 11th 2006 11:04AM
I got one and its not a re-furb. No doubt new. I sent in my rebate still waiting to get my money back. I am on there mailing list so i know they got my re-bate but you know rebates they love to keep your money for 6 weeks or so hehe
Bob @ Dec 13th 2006 10:11AM
On the Micro Center website, under Rebates and selecting Microsoft Game Console, you'll find the link for the 360 rebate than supposedly runs through 31 December, but when you click on the Rebate Form, nothing happens. What's up with that?
