I completely disagree. Sony treats Playstation like Microsoft treats Windows if that's what you mean. They don't try very hard because they've become comfortable with "easy money", and to save on resources, they underdevelop and cut costs where they probably shouldn't (in Sony's case...using horribly cheap DVD lasers in ALL PS2's up until the latest slim models).

If incessant Disc Read Errors, Rootkits, and breaking promises repeatedly is considered "dedication to products", then I'm really concerned.

As far as MS giving up on the original Xbox, can they be blamed? Continuing with it would be a drain on resources with little to no return or even losses (the Xbox 360, which they fully own, will not have this problem down the road).

But it is a given that as corporations get bigger, their product quality and customer service decreases. The exception being Nintendo. They have done an outstanding job with hardware quality and customer service, which should be applauded. They have problems in other areas, but from a consumer standpoint, they are outstanding.

I agree with you, Andrew. Sony has consistenly shown a lot of support for their products.
Microsoft has some nerve speaking about support considering how badly they abandon the original Xbox.

Tell me about it. As an owner of a gen 1 Xbox, I'm pissed by how Microsoft abandoned that console.

Well, I see xbox 360 around till 2008 than disappear. Yup, I forsee Xbox 360 falling under PS3 when it comes into play. Heth, Xbox was better than PS2 in graphsics but got defeated by it. And now PS3 with more to it: great graphics, HD DVD play (blue-ray) inside the box, online gaming now. And upcoming awesome beautiful games: Final Fantasy XIII, Metal Solid Gear 4, Lair, and upcoming Killzone.
I love American products but just not microsoft. I don't like how they overpriced software on computers for so long. I don't want those jerks becoming head honchos of gaming.

my 360 died in 5 months. MS said too bad...

his arguments are week. he says things as if personell resorces are finite and equal to every company. as if you can only have 30 people and if you want to focus on two or three consoles you must divide them into 15 or 10 person groups. like getting more people or properly allocating resorces from other departments is out of the question. this comming from a company launching the zune with the idea of possiby makeing a gamming version. read the aricule and you think M$ is proud of the 25 million consoles it made with xbox vs. ps2 and its 100 million. is the psp selling more consoles than ds ? maybe not, but with 22million and growing, by M$ standards it's already a sucess!

microsoft is still reaching for the kind of brand presence that allows a gaming division to expand into handhelds like sony did. they may not really want to get into that mix but i highly doubt an xbox branded handheld gaming device would have been in M$ best intrest this year or next. (esp when the xbox division has yet to return a regular profit, or make up for the billions already invested in it.) sony is primarily an electronics company. this is what they do every day across multi product lines, viao, bravia, walkman, playstation, etc.... and do it well.

Ladsaber, i think you are right. but i think M$ is talking out of its rear parts about what would happen if they tried to do what sony is already doing. with the recent jumps in psp sales and the ps3 now on the market, i think the playstation brand is maturing and going to cause a halo effect of growth for all 3 consoles for 2007 and beyond.
