I'm totally guessing, but this guy has a proxy set up and is the his own DNS to trick it into going to blahblahblah .com instead of shop.wii.nintendo.com or something to that extent.

I will definitely try this out when I get home.
Just imagine tailoring sites to work with the wiimote a dash of good flash artists, very cool.
I wonder what else could be done. Really would love to see my wii as a card reader or just something nice looking on my network.

I like all of the comments like "OMG THE BROWSER IS SO SLOW IT SUCKS!"

did you ever stop and think that this IS NOT the browser designed to surf the web? it was designed with a single purpose in mind, Nintendo Wii channels, not to be used as an internet browser, it is a hacked ability running thru a second machine

wait until the actual browser is out before you pass judgement

Awesome hack. Seeing as the Wii can surf like that without an updated browser, I'm itching to see what the Opera release will do.

I'll definitely be trying this out when I get off work!

@#42

Opera is not charging for the browser, Nintendo is. Opera is free. Most likely Nintendo is charging (eventually) because of the network bandwidth for the download. Opera is by far the best browser on the market, and I for one can't wait to try it out on the Wii. In my opinion, everyone should be using Opera on the PC, too.

what a shower of idiots, gimme 50 million dollars and i bet i can make an internet connection with a string of spagetti and a tin of heinz beans, but why the hell would i want to since i have a computer upstairs with a functional router and i use the Wii for playing games.
BTW my Opera browser works fine, perfectly in fact not slow at all in fact as quick as my broadband althought the typing is a little slow

For those of you who purchased your Wii on launch day, as far as I'm aware of, Nintendo will be providing the final version of Opera for the system free of charge. If this is possible, anyone hear of a netstumbler grab of the packets between the system and the shop channel? Anyone getting the same idea I have?
