Capcom fixing Lost Planet tiny text

Looks like Capcom finally figured out what Nintendo knew when they developed the Wii: A clear majority of consumers still own standard definition televisions. Following complaints that the multiplayer text on Lost Planet was like going through a Dead Rising tiny text time warp, Capcom has taken "the great feedback we have received from our fans ... Lost Planet will automatically detect if you are playing on an SDTV and change the score display settings for this mode automatically."
Capcom states that the demo does not reflect the final build "as they are still early works in progress." You know, Lost Planet was still in the "early works" with a launch date of January 12, 2007. Other fixes to the final game will be having objectives delivered in single player as both voice-over and text. Players can also pause the game at any time to review objectives on their in-game PDA.
Hold up, back to paragraph one, that text fix will happen "automatically" on a SDTV? Now is there any way we can get Capcom to reconsider their decision to not patch Dead Rising's tiny text, considering they have the technology to fix it "automatically" now?

I saw a commercial for this game the other day in a movie theatre and thought it looked pretty good... but this screenshot, I mean Wow, just... WOW!

Maybe the text is coded differently or displayed by a different method that it isn't so easy to patch. MAYBE.

Well thats cool but still text that is that small is hard to read on a smaller HD TV. I have a 30inch hd tv and i think that things like text size is going to need to be an option that needs to be added to games in the future. If i can't read it easily i'd like to make it a little larger.

So us Dead Rising players are still stuck with rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrape time!

Well yea it's automatic as in, the game knows the display settings and loads the appropriate font rendering settings so you don't get the crappy fonts...
It's not an instant fix that can be patched back to Dead Rising without sending out a bunch of fonts and rendering code again.
It would be interesting to find out how many Xbox360 / PS3 owners are using an HDTV or are still on SD... Then take that same poll and apply it to the Wii.
I bet that even though the mass market still isn't dominately HDTV, the majority of users who own Xbox360 and PS3 are... At least, that's what I would guess.

What kind of retard rodeo are you running? Detecting a standard definition signal and automatically adjusting the text just means the user won't have to manually change something in an option menu, not that they've got some magic no-coding-required formula for fixing text that they're just keeping from Dead Rising owners because they're spiteful.
It was irresponsible of Capcom not to have tested and addressed the text issue before Dead Rising shipped, that much is certain and no one's debating that.
What we don't know is how hard it would actually be to fix it. They may just be lazy, or it may have required a damn lot of coding and reworking of the interface. I don't know, and you don't know, so stop pretending you do.

It has nothing to do with SDTV. The problem was so bad on my 27" CRT HDTV that I gave up trying to play Dead Rising. Please, Capcom, give the USER the option to switch to a larger font (there are a few of us out there with over-50 eyes that play video games). Otherwise, Lost Planet looks great and I loved the SP demo.

If you're only seeing one a day, you're not reading often enough :)

will there be an option to hide the leaderboard altogether. It takes up alot of the screen and I wouldnt really consider it to be necessary information as long as you can pause or press some other button to momentarily bring it up if you want to see it.

Fix the text? How about fixing those ugly ass costume designs back to the good outfit in the first demo. Can I get an amen to that?
Moogle @ Nov 29th 2006 7:09AM
The have yet to burn the gold master so it costs them nothing to fix this.
Dead Rising patch means paying MS for hosting space, bandwidth, right to distribute over live, etc. Not worth it unless a problem breaks gameplay horribly.
