The subject is just one thing John Hight, director of external development at SCE Santa Monica, answered in a recent interview regarding the PS3's option to download games. We haven't had a very exciting list for a while, so let's sum up John's answers in such a format.- Sony always planned for full downloadable content. It wasn't something just tacked on during development.
- Taking advantage of the technology is key in downloadable games. Utilizing the SIXAXIS and 1080p support brings some new dimensions to the table. Just try Blast Factor at 1080p. It's a decent game, but wow, it looks sharp.
- First party developers will try to make stylish, fun games. New experiences.
- Third party publishers will undoubtedly provide updated arcade classics. High-res 2-D original MegaMan, please! I know it's not an "arcade" classic, but it's a classic.
- The limit of game sizes has been set at 500MB, only to keep download times reasonable.
That's not all he said, but that's really all that's very important. So far, there's no official word on releasing development opportunities for indie or hobby game developers, like the 360 is planning to do. No word on what third party titles will come to the PS3 either. Check out the full interview to fuel your desire to love or hate the PS3.
