Maybe he doesn't deserve to be shot, but I can't say I feel bad for him. I imagined a dedicated sony fanboy suffering a gunshot wound and no PS3 when i heard this story. Since he's just an Ebay scalper a part of me feels vindicated. Scalpers are a scourge, but I had entertained thoughts of waiting in line to re-sell one myself, but when the lines started two days before and a nor'easter was rolling in, I realized I wasn't hardcore enough.

Even a PS3 scalper doesn't deserve to have something like that happen to them, and it's insane to think that he's going to be stuck paying incredibly expensive medical bills because he was the *VICTIM* of a crime.

The American medical system sucks, people. It's time to wise up and start making progress towards the same kind of national healthcare that they have in England and Canada. YES it means higher taxes, but over the course of your lifetime you'll pay less out of pocket for a level of health care that's far superior to what you get now, and you won't have to hold off on going to the doctor because you think you can't afford it.

The drug companies and the HMOs are the ones who don't want national health care, people! And they don't want it because they know they won't make as much money off your misery. VOTE DEMOCRAT. Get involved in local politics. MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

All you people who are writing that we should not be chastising the sellers but chastising the buyers for paying the ridiculous prices are missing the point.

I think most of us think that people who bought the PS3 to make a profit on ebay or w/e are douchebags BECAUSE they are lowering the chances for true gamer, a true fan of the system to get a hold of it. I could give 2 craps about the people paying absurdly on ebay... if one is rich, good for them. If i had disposable money i'd do stupid shit like that too.

But once again... it's the assholes that buy up the systems to make a profit (which is no different than scalping concert tickets) that i blame.

For the record, i am not a fan of ps3 so it's not like i wanted one anyways. I'm just a person who has lost faith in human beings in general and stunts like this are just further proof that people suck.

#54 Jackson Pritt;

You can take your government-controlled healthcare system and shove it. "Universal healthcare" is nothing but communism, and I personally find my body's health to be more important than to be handed over to some government official who will decide for me how much healthcare I'm permitted to have and what services those will be. My relationship with my doctor is private, as is my diet and exercise regimine, so while you may find yourself to be incredibly sophisticated by having as much freedom as an animal in a zoo, most Americans would still rather have our somewhat broken system than some halfassed, communist, inefficient, poorly run, offensive system like you've got.

Connecticut people are those who empty their pockets, people from MA are stupid and decide to keep their money, I know the "kids" behind him in line, and they were smart enough to give up the little money they had even though one had upwards of $4000 on him earlier that night.

I love how people use "Communist" like it's a swear word or insult. How quaint.

I wouldn't consider myself "red" by any stretch of the imagination, but the idea that only some people deserve good health care, and others don't is incredibly selfish, end of story.

I don't think that is the tone of the Joystiq post at all. I think Joystiq just pointed out the extremes these Ebay opportunists will go through just to make a profit from a PS3. Man gets shot but still worries about whether his friends have the monies so they can get the Playstation 3s? I don't see anywhere in the post that anyone suggests that he "deserved" to get shot.

@53 - You're complaining that the guy is preventing you from spending $800 on some luxury item? You act like you waited in a bread line and the guy sold the last loaf and you're starving.
People need to get some perspective.

If he just got a normal job, instead of slling someone else's christmas to spoiled rich kids on ebay, this never would have happened.

The fact that he's uninsured makes me smile.

The guy who shot him was ALSO just trying to sell it on eBay. So, given the fact that either way, it wouldn't be going to an actual gamer, I'm going to take the side of the guy who got shot. Actually I would've taken his side anyway, but this seals the deal.

Should have aimed for the head... and in response to #46. I don't think he should die because I play violent video games, I believe he should die to improve the gene pool of the species as a whole. Alternately, he could have been shot in the crotch. At least then he couldn't breed. And, yes, personally I feel that every single person that camped out for the PS3, or the Wii, or 360 for that matter, just to sell it should be shot. And ticket scalpers, while we're at it. Get a real ******* job and leave the items to the people WHO WILL ACTUALLLY USE THEM. And, for the record, I do not have a PS3, nor do I want one, I just hate jerkoffs like this. And where the hell did he get $2600 in cash with no job. I SERIOUSLY doubt it was from selling crap out of his front yard. Might be from selling stuff growing in his back yard, but I doubt it was beanie babies. For that matter, does anyone even still give a **** about beanie babies?

I find it quite funny reading replies like those here.

If that was a guy in the line who got shot because he was going to play the PS3 and not resell it, you would be like, "Oh, that really sucks man. I so hope they catch the criminals that did that to you. Get better soon man, and hope you got your PS3 so you can have some fun playing it while you recover.""

You guys are so hypocritical, it's unreal.

I know for one that most people are just gutted that they couldn't get hold of more than one PS3, so they could keep one for themselves. Then sell the others to make a profit to not only cover the cost of the one PS3 they keep, but also to add some funds to have an enjoyable xmas.

I know that is what I would do, and I know plenty of others that would do the same thing.
It's called being an entrepreneur, and taking the advantage of those that are willing to spend $2500-$4000 for a gaming system and having the balls to be different.
However, being in the UK, it's not easy as we don't have them yet, and Sony have stopped imports so we have to wait until Launch gets here.
Even then, I may well do it if there is still a lack of consoles on the market.

From some of these replies to this post, it just shows how low some of your replies can be and as someone else said, gives Clout to Jack Thompsons statements about what gaming does to people.

I have friends who've been mugged at gunpoint. I've had to fight off muggers myself. This scalper's scum, but no one deserves to be mugged.

I was one of the jerks waiting in line to sell the PS3 on Ebay. The reason I did was to help feed my family. One of the workers at Walmart tried to shame me for trying to make a profit, while a child would save all his money up to buy the new system but would be unavailable. If anyone hasn't noticed, the world has been going to hell. For a parent to let their child save their money up to buy a game system, instead of saving for something important, there's where one problem is. The only uneasy feeling I have, is thinking I may be no better than a crack dealer that doesn't do crack. I'm capitalizing on people's material addictions. One question: If a limited edition postage stamp came out, and Ebay investors bought them to make a profit, would the gamers think that was wrong too?
