I'm sorry but picking this game up after years is not as much fun as you'd think it is. I played the arcade version recently and these games do not always hold up well.

I dunno...this makes me more sad than anything.
It just feels so wrong to see these classic franchises and (mostly) great games ending up on the consoles of these gargantuan-mega-corporations, to me.

Playing Genesis games on a Nintendo system is one thing. That's cool and feels right in a "I never thought I'd see the day/bury the hatchet" kind of way; but these games going to these over-sized, greedy super corporations just feels so hollow. It's almost as though it steals the innocence or replaces it with a Body Snatcher or something.

Over-sized, greedy super corporations? Isn't Nintendo a large corporation? Maybe I'm crazy, but last I saw, Nintendo is a large corporation.

I'm not a fanboy or anything and I owned every console until this time around. I'm happy that these games are coming to my xbox. I'd love to get streets of rage on xbla.

The rights to the original franchise are now owned by Million. They made a remake of the original game, with elements from the sequels, on the GBA. It wouldn't be too far-fetched to port that to XBLA.

I doubt the NeoGeo fighter will make it due to rights issues. The film hasn't been out on DVD for years. (There's a few releases, but they have been out of print for a long time.) But who knows!

Umm... what's with the anti-corporate crap going around? Samfish, not a single game you play would exist if it weren't for big corporations. Who do you think makes the computers, consoles, TVs, wiring, plastic, and everything else you use when you play? Nintendo is a multi-billion $$ corporation. Sega was and is now much reduced -- but sure as hell wants to be again! Somehow, I think Technos would have loved to have survived to become a huge megacorp. They didn't pull it off and went belly up. If it weren't for Millions buying the rights, DD would not be available anywhere. Would that be preferable and somehow more pure? You seem to have a pretty distorted fantasyland view of the games business.

People mistake making money and businesses with corporations. They're two entirely different things. A corporation is bad because it is treated like a human being. A corporation is NOT a human being.

Business = good

Corporations = bad

Techno? Shouldn't that be Tradewest. Or was that just for the NES version. I would buy Double Dragon III because I didn't finish the game and I feel like my gaming career is incomplete. Might give this one a try.

Guys, let's not pretend to like you're f-ckin' stupid. You all know full well what I meant about "giant corporations". The ones who have their fingers in more honey pots than they probably should and stifle creativity and innovation for the bottom line.
If that isn't clear as day this generation, NOTHING is (although I'm willing to admit that MS is at least putting out something generally pretty good with Xbox Live)

Nintendo is NOT a giant corporation.
Microsoft and Sony ARE.

I'd MUCH rather have Nintendo and Sega going at it than MS and Sony. Christ, if it weren't for Nintendo, we'd still be playing 3D games with our D-Pads.

Well what exactly is the cutoff for small, medium, and giant corporation? Nintendo seems to be larger than small and medium. Are they extremely big but not giant? Not many tiny businesses sell more than 400,000 of anything in a week.

Not this old chestnut again. Nintendo did NOT invent analogue control!

I am sorry samfish I never really called anybody this on joystiq only because I try not to be rude about people opinions but your F**king dumb as sh*t if you think nintendo is this friendly neighborhood gaming company that really cares about its gamers. You must of not grew up with the late 80s early 90s nintendo i grew up with.

Nintendo was just as cut throat as sony and microsoft are back in the days.Ask any dev how they felt about the 80s-90s nintendo and alot of them will draw out a big *sigh*.Nintendo has always claim to be the family console this is nothing new but they were (and still are) just as money hungry as sony and microsoft if you think other wise you know jack sh*t about the company.....

Anyway when the hell will I see Bad Dudes on XBL now theres a classic game I would love to play online.

All this talk about Nintendo being evil is BS. Unless you want to do something about Sony, who is essentially emulating the same, if not worse attitude these days.

Anyways it's off-topic.

I have Double Dragon for Master System. It's pretty bad, but you can headbutt people! (actually it looks more like humping)

Blow it out your ass, Urbanstorm. I never said anything remotely like that. Go back to highschool and get some reading comprehension skills. Read what I actually wrote, you moron, before you go accusing me of saying something I did not. Among other things, I did NOT say "Nintendo cares about gamers". But it's clear that they care MORE about the industry, as they have a MUCH more vested interest in keeping it healthy. If the industry goes belly up again, odds are they do to. Not the case for Sony and MS, who have greater resources and things to fall back on.

I said I don't like huge corporate conglomerates because it always- ALWAYS- leads to staleness since doing the same ol' thing is cheaper than innovating.
When a company isn't part of a giant conglomerate, regardless of size, it's usually MUCH more important for them to stay fresh. Can that happen if they aren't a conglomerate cog and just get too big for their britches? Sure! Look at Windows.

But if you, Urbanstorm, or anyone else has a problem with my calling a big, sterile corporation that doesn't care about the INDUSTRY'S OVER ALL HEALTH to the floor...that's your problem. Not mine. I see it almost like leaving your kid with a robot, rather than a baby sitter.

Also, I never said Nintendo invented the idea of analogue sticks in controllers. I did say (by implication, I suppose) that they were innovative with them, though. Innovation and invention, despite their verbal similarities, are NOT the same thing.

Again I am sorry for my rudeness that wasn’t called for and I am man enough to admit that. Now I never said you said Nintendo cared about gamers. What I said was you THINK Nintendo is the only one that cares about gamers and you do.

This is what you said:

“But it's clear that they care MORE about the industry, as they have a MUCH more vested interest in keeping it healthy. If the industry goes belly up again, odds are they do to. Not the case for Sony and MS, who have greater resources and things to fall back on.”

Correct me if I wrong but the industry your talking about sell video games? And aren’t people that play video games called gamers? Please understand I am not trying to take stabs at you I am just trying to tell that Nintendo is the way they are because they have to be.

Nintendo lost a big chunk of the gaming market because they failed to grow up with the gamers that they were after. Which is fine for Nintendo but not fine for gamers that wanted something more. Now when “grow up” I mean company wise not demographic wise.

Nintendo is no small time company it is a billion dollar company, which makes it a conglomerate just like Sony and Microsoft. The only difference is Nintendo doesn’t make TV’s or operating systems but that doesn’t mean they are not in the same league as the others guy.

I’m all for rooting for the little guy as much as the next person, but it is just hard for me to call Nintendo the “little guy” when they not only own the industry to 10 years they still kind of have a monopoly on the handheld market.

Again sorry for being rude and sorry for going of topic.

WTF? Maybe I grew up in the bizzaro 80's but don't you have to be a, oh I dunno, a gargantuan-mega-corporation to program, manufactur and ship thousands of arcade cabinets around the world?

Or was Double Dragon made out of a sub-let in Queens by Agnes and Sol Mortz who make good ol' fashioned, neighborhood style side scrollers....just like mommma used to make!
