USA Today on favorable Wii buzz, early holiday winners

USA Today is running an article that compares the better supplied and favorable Wii launch to the limited supplied and "disappointing" PS3 launch. However, the article implies the Xbox 360 has them both beat in terms of early holiday sales: "Nintendo's launch 'has been probably a little better than expected and Sony's has been a little bit more disappointing ... If you have to rank on who won this holiday so far, Microsoft is first, Nintendo a close second and Sony a distant third, which is a rare statement."
The report suggest that many gamers gave up on securing a PS3 because 38% of its prospective buyers were subjected to "sleep deprivation, lost wages, missed classes, the elements and even muggings" despite its being "a winner." According to New Media Strategies, a research firm that monitors web activity, said side effects left a bad taste in consumers' mouths equating to only 27% favorable discussion for the PS3 compared to 49% favorable chatter for Wii. So what's it gonna take to get PlayStation Nation out of its seven month publicity funk? Better supply would be a start.

I think most of us can say it was to be expected here. But man, if there are so many Wii's around, why can't I find one? For the love of Nintendo, someone throw me a Wii!

Who cares about the wii?

Um, when were the systems released again? This article says the PS3 was Nov. 19 and the Wii was the 21.
Am I confused/misinformed or is USA Today not quite with it?

Wii's was actually a little worse than I was expecting. Not so much the supply, but the talk of various technical errors, which is unusual for a Nintendo system. Also, launching with no online play was pretty bad.
And a boost in supply is the ONLY way PS3 will shake the bad news surrounding it. The system may be good, or even great, but if you can't get your hands on it, what's the point?

New Shipments of PS3 are gonna come out, so this USA thing will be pointles once Sony gets more PS3's.

My guess is that SCEA was caught in a bad position having missed their Spring '06 launch (most likely due to logistical issues), but when they saw Nintendo looming for a Q4 '06 launch, they realized that they HAD to release in that quarter, because if a March '07 launch were the reality for North America, i bet that they thought NO ONE would really be up with it
They felt the pressure to launch, and unwisely did so when they simply did not have the logisitical capability to meet demand
Now they shall suffer

I remember a month ago everybody in my town was dissing the PS3, now everyone is worshiping it for some reason. So I guess PS3 did wonders to same people for their opinions to change like that. To me, I just want my Wii. :( BTW, that picture is #$!@ing disgusting!
