they have sold .66 million in america so far.
all they need to do is sell roughly 1.3 million in america, japan, and euro for the 4mil mark.
christmas is right around the corner
and a lot of my friends still don't have to wii
so if they supply 4million
im sure they are sold.

If Nintendo sells 4M consoles in 6 weeks, and the 360 has only sold 7M consoles so far... i'd say that's REALLY bad news for them.

Before they think of that, Nintendo should be concerning themselves on keeping the shelves stocked with units.

Chris, I don't think anyone is claiming that it will be hard for Nintendo to sell the systems, it has more to do with believing that they will be ABLE to supply another 3+ million systems worldwide in the next month.

Demand is still off the charts, it's the supply that people are worried about.

With that many units going to be "available" why the hell are places like Wallmart, Target, and BestBuy hording the units they have? Screw the weekend advertisements where you can claim "X units per store". I want the system on the shelves now. NOW!

I think Nintendo can meet the supply but we may not see large shipments in the US until after Europe and Australia get their launches going.

All I know is I just went to my local Meijer (Columbus, OH) today and they had gotten 2 in. When I got to the store only 1 Wii was left and it is now mine!!! Good luck everyone who wants one. Just keep making the phone calls to the stores you might not consider (because the gaming stores and Best Buy are where everyone goes)and that is where you will find your Wii!

I think they'll get to 4 mill by January easy. They will manufacture enough units and demand is still sky high. My only concern is how are they going to keep demand high after the holiday season? I bought a Wii last week and I love playing Zelda and Monkey Ball, but I was really looking forward to getting my hands on Super Mario Galaxy early next year. Now that Mario might not come out until next holiday season I wonder what game they will have to boost system sales in the early part of next year.

Orly Strike Man? Joystiq seemed to put the most ephesis on "If reality, that would be like selling almost 20% of the GameCube's 21M install base in just over six weeks (!)."

Big Ed (#3), they're the same thing. Keeping stores stocked by shipping four million units. They're manufacturing as many as they can.

"To that end, Nintendo asked Joystiq if they can use our headquarters as a make-shift manufacturing plant. We politely obliged"

Now why doesn't that surprise me?

The GameCube sold 10% of its eventual North American install base within its first six weeks! (1,236,000 out of 12,440,000)

The firm realization that Nintendo has brought an utterly superior way of controling console games to the home market?

I know a lot of people who want one (including me) that haven't been able to score one yet. He's correct when he says they'll sell however many they can manage to manufacture and ship.

Metroid, Mario, Smash Bros., Pokemon, and a good third-party title now and then...depends on your tastes. Animal Crossing, No More Heroes, FF: CC, Kirby, Sonic, Orb, Thorn, DK Wii, Fire Emblem...those are all on the way, meaning I'm happy.

Well, happy as soon as I can get a Wii: my mother stole $200 from me before launch day, and hasn't paid me back yet.

Hey, Nintendo!! While you're at it, can you please hook us up with some more Wiimotes, too? I've got my Wii, but there are other people I want to play with me.

Oh, and how about some more component cables? Maybe some more nunchucks, as well?

That would be great, thanks.

I went to a local Target on Tuesday. There were no Wii's so I started look at the 360 stuff behind me. People were just steaming in to look at the Wii and see if any were in stock. I waited 3 minutes and in that amount of time 14 people came down the aisle to look at the empty Wii case and walk away.
So yesterday, I take a late lunch and get there about 1:45 pm. I see people walking out with Wii's. So I go there and see 8 in the case. I get one for my kids and ask the employee about them. They had just put out 20 Wii's about 10 minutes. And by the time I walked out with mine in the bag, they were sold out. So they sold about 20 Wii's in about 14 minutes. they had some nunchucks as well and they were gone by the time I walked out. Of the people that were there, I'd say about 85% were moms buying them.

I just wish Nintendo could supply us with some flaming Classic Controllers, I still can't find one!

I still say the odds are against Nintendo to catch up with MS by the end of the fiscal year, but it would be awe-inspiring if they sold half as many as the 360 by that time, and there IS a good chance of that (say 3 million 360s between now and then, and Wii sells 5 million by then, they'll have sold half as many in well less than half the time)

Wii is selling like crazy check out this site:
http://nexgenwars.com

Every time I refresh the page it seems like a good 20-35 more Wiis have been sold. So I think if they keep selling at this rate, they got it!
