"Rare reluctant to pursue Microsoft's vision."

Bill Gates (shaking his gloved fist): "Join us, Rare, and we shall rule the galaxy as father and son!"

I picked up Viva Pinâta yesterday,...and was pleasantly surprised! Wow, great game Rare, well done! I'm 25, and not too young for this game!

Rare are scum, they're charging people extra for content that's already on the disk. Anything you get from marketplace that's around ~108KB is an unlocker for content you've ALREADY paid for!

Basing the success of downloadable content based on Kameo, a game that wasn't exactly popular is a mistake IMO.

People would pay for content if its worthwhile, stadiums and jerseys, or a special animal furr are not content.

It seems like they have plenty of ideas and in general support MS' 'vision'.. they just havent figured a way to convince people to shell out more money after they've paid $50 for a game.

I personally never buy any additional content that cost extra money... and its just a matter for time till PS3 follows the same route...
everything I need should be included in the game disc when I pay 50-70 dollars... unless its additional maps for multiplayer...

That's so weird that Microsoft is going to let this happen. Rare is almost saying that the Market Place is fairly useless from a business/development viewpoint. I wonder how Microsoft feels when their premiere service is being slammed from within its own ranks.

If they come out with the ability to go to other peoples gardens, I would shell out some dough for that. But getting outfits for my Pinatas is low priority

#2 seem to be mixing Rare with Electronic Arts... Besides, they're only cheats. You can easily unlock them yourself without paying anything extra.

I love downloadable content, and totally understand why a lot of it must be payed for. The devs make the content post-release, and will have to earn money for developing this. Anyone thinking they're deliberately holding content back must be paranoid.. The car packs for PGR 3 for example, takes several weeks off photoshoots and developing. The only thing I hate is when the price gets way too high, like was the case with Oblivion's Horse Armor.

This game is a direct bite off of Animal Crossing. Rare hasn't impressed me since Perfect Dark. And they are also responsible for Cock Blocking Goldeneye 64 (best game made ever), making impossible to download it on the Wii.

The issue isn't Rare not wanting to adopt the "parent company's content-for-now, content-for-later model", it's whiney, cheap-ass gamers. Content comes out, at any price, and everyone that has a blog is "outraged" by the "over-priced" content. Just look to Oblivion, seems no matter what the content or price people always feel they are getting ripped off. People would rather have *no* extra content at all instead of having the option to pay for more.

Why subject yourself, as a company, to that type of abuse? Rare is just listening to the consumers, and consumers aren't willing to pay for downloadable content. Oddly enough though people will pour their money down a hole buying the most worthless digital asset on the planet, ringtones.

#4, why should you even need to pay for multiplayer maps? blizzard, valve, westwood, and id give away free maps.

What was the last original title Rare made? Seems like they had a few original titles on the N64 -- Blast Corps and Jet Force Gemini. Then they've just been latching off Nintendo for all their ideas -- Diddy Kong Racing, Banjo Kazooie, Conker's Bad Fur Day, Viva Pinata. Hell, even Perfect Dark Zero is a sequel to Perfect Dark .. which was kind of a sequel to GoldenEye since Rare was unable to get/afford the Bond license. I don't really consider it anything "new".

I think Nintendo was smart to get rid of Rare.
