Web sites step up to connect Wii owners
Nintendo has made it pretty hard to connect with other Wii owners through the Wii itself, but this hasn't stopped some intrepid web users from creating online trading posts for Wii codes, messages, game saves and Miis. Here are a few of the better resources out there so far:
- MiiPages - A country-by-country list of Wii owners looking for other Wii owners to connect with. Users can search for fellow gamers with similar games and interests and put in a friend request -- your Wii code is hidden until you accept a request. With over 1000 users already, this is shaping up to be a premiere Wii sharing community.
- Wii-play - An extremely large Wii forum and chat community that supports easy Wii code sharing and a clever system to redirect private messages to your friends' Wii consoles. The site is a little overwhelming at first and requires a little work to figure out all its features, but its worth it to find fellow Wii owners to connect with.
- ConnectMii - Basically just a forum to broadcast your Wii code to hundreds of strangers who have done the same. If you're friend list goals involve quantity and not quality, this is the site for you.
- Wii Save - A growing community devoted to sharing Wii save files through SD cards, complete with step-by-step upload and download instructions. The site is mostly Zelda saves for now, but hopefully we'll see a wider range of saves soon.
- MiiPlaza - This site doesn't let you exchange Wii codes or data, but does let you share photos of your Mii Channel creations with the world. Kind of small at the moment, but sure to grow as more users try to give their Miis digital immortality.

Having to take photos of my Miis on my TV screen is weak. Who's going to figure out how to get Mii images from the Wiimote to the computer via Bluetooth?

It's funny, and scary at the same time. Yes it's easier to get friends on your list, but it also goes directly against what nintendo is trying to do, create a safe online enviroment for the whole family.
In other words, great, now little timmy can log into these pages using his Opera Browser built into his Wii, add a bunch of complete strangers to his friends list. Days later recieving child pornography posted to his calendar... or worse be a victim himself...
I personally don't mind it for myself personally, I just find it ironic that all this effort is put into services that make all of Nintendo's efforts null and void...

For a smaller less advertised community go to www.WiiNumbers.proboards51.com
We have a good start up base and will be holding online contests as well as VC contests for prizes.

They've been doing DS Friend Code trading for a while, they've recently added Wii Codes. Works very well.

@10, i know, but i told nintendo that people will find away around that (and maybe other people), but i don't think that's why nintendo is doing this

The point isn't that it's impossible to find a stranger's codes. This Friend Code system takes all matters of liability out of Nintendo's hands...if/when a parent complains about some stranger sending inappropriate content to a child, Nintendo has the kind of defense that puts all of the blame on the guardian. "Your child had to actively seek someone out on the Internet on an unofficial, unauthorized matching service, and if your child even did THAT on the Wii's browser, you still were responsible for actively downloading that browser add-on and letting your child use it unsupervised." Bingo bango.

If any UK owners want to hook their Wii's up to their Orange Livebox wi-fi routers then I've got detailed instructions at my site:

Hope that helps some people out!

http://wiidomain.net is small right now, but already has a friend system in place where you have to approve a connection between another member. You can also do a search by game name to find members. For your profile, you can upload a mii that you've created.

www.n-g-online.com is an online nintendo community for DS and Wii that uses a matchmaking system based on location and the ability to search by game to find players.
the site is rather small right now, due to limited exposure, but theres a lot planned and a Wii friendly version is already online(though the "friendliness" is still being tweaked.)
swing on by and give it a shot

this website was designed to facilitate to code exchange using request system, not just another forum where users post their codes into the "blackhole" and not really knowing if anyone else will add them back.
it now also has functions to upload pictures of miis to share with everyone.

There is also a new website on the rise called UniteMii (http://www.unitemii.com). The site is aimed at uniting Wii owners from all over the world. It works exactly like facebook/myspace where you can create a profile with pictures, etc. etc. This is great feature considering that you now know who you are exchanging friend codes with!!
