it's not just the 360 either obviously... they should've made that sensor bar on the wii wireless. the batteries would weigh it down enough to anchor it too without the need for the included adhesive.

This post doesn't make any sense.
I use VGA and a surround reciever and hooking up a 360 involved plugging the VGA cable into the tv, the optical cable into the reciever and the ethernet cable into the router, and obviously the power cable. We've lost a cable now that you just use one optical instead of white/red RCA

what do you mean the wireless adaptor is a hardcore no-no?
I used to have a router and it was useless, it would rarely connect to Xbox Live. Now I've got the official one it does not need it's one mains adaptor so I've room for my wireless headset speaker, also it's got far stronger reception (it actually works downstairs this time!) and it connects immediately.

Why exactly is the wireless adapter a "hardcore gaming no-no?" I've been "hardcore gaming" with it with no problems since I got my 360. Or do you have a connection that outperforms the 54mbps 802.11g offers? I'm curious.

no doubt, I have an entertainment center and computer desk in the same corner, what a mess of cables and power supplies. Xbox, xbox 360, ps1, n64, atari 5200, ham radio, PC, mac, stereo, dvd, vhs, tv, audio mixer and on and on. I'm sure the fire martial would fine me if he saw my 'snake pit'. I moved myself a few months back and made an effort to keep it as organized as possible, but it didn't last long. I look forward tot he day when all connections like this are wireless.

The wireless adds a tiny amount of latency.

It's overblown. Honestly, the latency problems aren't wireless adapters, it's those idiots who leave bittorrent running when they hop into Insert Shooter Here.

I actually went and compared pings wireless vs wired and it's nothing.

However, if you're doing the audio/video streaming thing, you probably want to be wired.

About the wireless adapter:

Maybe I'm wrong about this, but I always believe that a hardwired connection will outperform a wireless one. I'd be glad to be proven wrong though. I'll ditch any wires that I can.

Enzo,

I'm referring to *all* the cables that require set up, not just the 360's. If you want surround sound, you have to hook up all your sound system's cables as well. So, they're kind of lumped in with your 360 everytime you have to set it up.

i agree with J.Goodwin, there is nothing wrong with wireless, and there is a tiny diffeance in ping times, but nothing that will screw with ya.

unless like J.Goodwin said, you are a moron n are downloading/uploading on your pc killing your connection while trying to play online....

or you are like a mile away from your wireless router....

Im not really close to my router but i can still easily stream HD content to my 360 no problem.

having too many wires is a Xbox 360 annoyance????? you could just simplify everything by using component video and composite stereo audio out, and don't hook it up to Xbox Live... then you only have 2 wires to deal with!!!

Streaming with wireless is a BIG HUMONGOUS no-no.

Also IF YOU HAVE A FAMILY. the probability of somebody to be heavy using your home network while you're playing on live is also big.

So, if you a a Hardcore 360 fanboy, you DO stream a lot of shit from your PC to you 360, so wireless is a no-no then.

Also for people who have that aged thing from the past called family network AND are hardcore 360 fanboys, wireless is a no-no.

But again, if you're a Halo 2 freak (a species that is NOT a HARDCORE 360 fanboy for sure) you'l know nothing about streaming or sharing a network with your family, so wireless adapter is NOT a no-no for you.

Simple!

HDMI can't replace all these cables fast enough -- but of course Microsft isn't helping here. Once (if?) you have HDMI output on your 360 and an HDMI surround sound receiver, at that point your cables are down to HDMI, power, and network. Assuming you don't have wireless network.

ill take a wired ethernet connection over any wireless signal anyday...ESPECIALLY wireless G.

why? it is so very susceptable to interferance, it is rediculous. not reliable when online gaming...especially hosting.

i've seen wireless network devices loose connections completly everytime a microwave is turned on, for example. a cell phone rings.

just like with the un-reliable 360 wireless headset, there are far, far too many 2.4 ghz devices out there these days to make issues.

you're lucky if you don't have any IMO. OR perhaps you can afford to put further basestations/extenders in every room?

the day humans figure out wireless electricity, there may be hope for all our wireless needs. (and of course many less wires) at least something other than 2.4 ghz. :)

Agreed, wired beats wireless hands down. Wired connections don't suffer from packet loss and interferance with other common household devices. Everytime the office phone rings, the router is blocked (yes, tell my boss to get a 5.8GHz phone) and even if the phone isn't ringing I lose connection at least 3 times a day to my laptop. Somedays my laptop won't even recognize the WPA encrypted signal and has to be rebooted. Overall, wireless is a pain in the @$$. Indeed it is a hardcore gaming no-no.

As for wireless electricity, all you need is a good Tesla coil, lol.

It doesn't matter what console you own, there still will be allot of AV cabling connecting to a HD setup with surrond. Even if your using HDMI, you have to pass that from your surrond system to your TV, meaning your still fishing for cables. But personally, its not too hard for me to take my Xbox 360 with me, I can easily pack it up within five minutes, though I don't have to take my VGA cable (since that's only for my 22inch widescreen LCD setup). I used to move my Xbox 360 from room to room and it didn't take me that long at all, but it depends on the setup.

Also, the Ethernet cable isn't really a hassle, just clicks in or clicks out. Its not that hard to bring it with you either, just disconnect both sides, pull it out and there you go. I personally see no real need for wireless, despite I have a wireless router and use it on my laptop (obviously), because my room already has the wires set up and personally, its FAR better for streaming media to the Xbox 360 than wireless (especially using Media Center).

I'm guessing you have a setup that's a royal pain to get behind and connect/disconnect the wires to.

But why should it matter? Most people don't disconnect their console that often at all (if at all). Yea, you had to do it because you moved by that's something you won't have to do for a long time...

Seriously, you're worring about packet loss from devices? Are you playing the game or making a Hot Dog in your microwave?

Unless you're in an apartment you shouldn't have enough interference to make a difference online. If you're playing for cash of course you'll want to go wired. While you're at it you better get the 1 foot ethernet cables to minimize the time it takes to travel from router to 360, modem to router, cable socket to modem!!!!!

I have my 360 on the 2nd floor of my house and I bridge from my PC to the 360 and I have never once had a problem that would justify my purchasing of a long ethernet cable.

I just recently moved, including my 360 and whole media setup. While my setup is fairly modest, I relished the opportunity to reorganize and rearrange. I am much happier with the setup in my new place and am glad I had the opportunity to streamline the running of the wires, all of 'em.

I just moved recently and I had no problems with my Xbox 360. I re-wrapped everything in the original packaging (yes, I kept the box!) and that was that. Much better than trying to pack my desktop computer!

Sure, it's not as portable as the Wii, but I'm not complaining :p

You said a wireless adapter is a hardcore gaming no-no and then go on to say you hope everything is wireless by the Xbox 720. No-no! I'll stick with my wires (except for wireless controllers and headset). Although I've been too lazy to wire up my rear surround speakers to actually sit behind me and I don't want to do a hack job and just leave them exposed on the floor in the middle of my living room.

Suckers!

Another stupid personal annoyance thats made to seem like a specific 360 one. Some time ago i moved the 360 from my room to the main room to make use of the large plasma screen. I noticed offhand how neat it was to move it. I had all the cables that came in box and thats all i needed. Only the wireless adapter (which i got for a massive discount on ebay months ago) was the the extra.

- Video
- Power

I remarked to my brother how easy it was to move the 360.

Granted, i dont have HD tv, but i believe thats just a single cable needed as well.

Fact is, these annoyances; while some valid, others are just plain nitpicking and unfair. Personal stuff that just make potential buyers apprehensive to purchase the 360.

Talk about important issues, not the small stuff that you use to make the list seem longer.

Why doesn't the entire Weblogs team just complain about every other electrical device's wires and file it as an "annoyance?" Why are you hating on the 360? Might as well start writing about wire annoyances for PS3s, Wiis, Xboxes, PS2s, Gamecubes, Dreamcasts, PS1s, Genesis, DVD Players, Computers, Laptops, and TVs.

Lemme put this more clearly: THIS IS NOT A 360 ANNOYANCE. This is an ELECTRICAL APPLIANCE ANNOYANCE.

Jeez, as if the 360 doesn't have enough "annoyances" already. Most of them are just bullshit opinions that could cover more than just the 360.

about the wireless thing. just get one of the new wireless n routers. i read somewhere (i dont remember so i dont have a link) that wireless n is faster than even ethernet.

right now i have ethernet hooked up to the xbox but i just bought the belkin n1 router and notebook card. i know they are expensive but i got them for $110 on ebay (retail would be $129.99-149.99 for router and $80-99 for card) and im going to sell the notebook card, maybe making $50 bucks out of it, which would be about $60 for the router. Both brand new, unopened.

once i get the router, i will test it, if its better i will let ya'll know

THREE connections.

1. Power

2. Ethernet

3. Xbox 360 VGA-HD cable.

For my surround sound, I use the optical cable which remains connected to the VGA-HD cable and doesn't count as a separate connection.

I switch back and forth between two displays/sound setups ALL THE TIME because I have cable running from my computer monitor (a nice widescreen Samsung) to the entertainment center (yes, over 25 feet of cable), and I have two VGA-HD connectors. When I want to game on the HDTV, I use the one connected to the entertainment center components. When I want to game away from the TV (such as when my wife's watching something) I can just switch VGA-HD connectors at the back of the 360, and go play at my desk.

So I actually have double the cables, but it's still pretty easy to take the 360 with me to go hang out with my nephews. I have the HD-AV cable in my 360 carrying case along with a spare controller. All I have to do is disconnect the video connector at the back of the 360, along with the ethernet connection and the power supply. I pack up the power supply, put the 360 into the case, and I'm off.

If I could buy a spare power brick, I would. That way, I could leave one at home, and put one in my case and just grab the console and go.
