NES & SNES controller adapters for Wii
Purists may find solace with RetroZone's forthcoming NES and SNES controller adapters for Wii's Virtual Console, but others will do just fine with the all-purpose Classic Controller. Before you go digging around for your old gamepads, consider that each adapter costs $19 (plus $6 S&H per order), roughly equaling the cost of Nintendo's Classic Controller, which offers greater compatibility and semi-wireless freedom.RetroZone will begin shipping the NES adapter in January, followed by the SNES adapter shortly thereafter. Both devices connect via Wii's GameCube controller ports.

i really like the classic controller, i see no need for this. But it might be cool with one of those retro skins for wii and original NES controllers...i don't know

The fact that the picture has USB makes me think that they haven't actually made any yet. I hope they get it out by then, but I'm skeptical. Plus the SNES adapter shows only the concept art of an SNES controller plugging into another cable. The price makes me hope making a homebrew adapter is as easy as it was for Xbox.

I would only buy this if they split the cord and put both adapters on one cable.

I'd get one of the NES ones for one reason. My NES Advantage controller.

They make one for Nintendo 64 and i am in. Certain games on N64 will work poorly with the Classic Controller (Forsaken 64, WWF No Mercy) and i would surely love to use an N64 controller if they manage to secure goldeneye. Dual analog is the worst control scheme for FPS ever, the N64 controller was much better, IF they had a much better analog stick...

As much as I like the SNES controller, the Classic Controller is almost the same design, if not better, and is the same price as one of these adapters. Plus, it can actually be used to play downloaded N64 games.

you guys are forgetting about the best nes controller ever. the power glove!
Kev Archie @ Nov 30th 2006 9:53PM
So... since it's a USB-NES adapter - i assume some klever kid can get this to work with my PC?? :)

#8. The image is actually of an NES USB adaptor FOR the PC, which they also sell. The Wii adaptors will use the Gamecube port, but they apparently haven't made (or photographed) any yet.
Splinter @ Nov 30th 2006 10:47PM
They DEFINATELY need to make an N64 adapter. This is exactally what i want and need. I hate playing LoZ OOT with the Gamecube controller. It doesnt feel right, and its just not as comfortable.
To me, $25 is a bargin. I was expecting to have u DIY!

I'll just use the new one for the Wii, I like the wireless
draco @ Nov 30th 2006 11:32PM
Why does everyone think this is a USB adapter the picture is clearly a gamecube plug. click on the bigger image, its much clearer.

I agree, I gotta play it on n64, i miss the trigger-style z button.

not actually sure about this. i for one, don't have any of my old nes and snes pads, so that would be a hassle. on top of that 19 dollars seems expensive just for an adapter. like someone else in here said, the VC controller looks almost like the snes pad, but its wireless, only attached to the wiimote which you need next to you anyways to navigate to the wii menu on a whim. in anycase, i kind of like turning the wiimote on its side for nes games. and i also kind of like my wavebirds.....so i'm really not sure if i like those old controllers with an adapter better....i love wireless. you'd have to really be a retro nut to pay for this and also have those old controllers. the wiimote on its side, the VC controller and the wavebirds are all pretty good options in their own right for VC games.
meizlizard @ Dec 1st 2006 1:31AM
Hey sweet. My cousin and a friend of his are the ones doing this.
Wouldn't an n64 one be a lot harder to do because it has analog?
Hunta2097 @ Dec 1st 2006 5:09AM
I wouldn't buy this... how long do you think it will be before someone (maybe Nintendo) release a replical N64, SNES and NES controller that attach to the Wiimote?

competition is good. I'm sure it's a matter of time before someone makes their own, more inexpensive version to steal some of the market share

Troll!
Hunta2097:
Uh...they already did...kind of. It's called the Wii Classic Controller.
Lee Shadow @ Dec 2nd 2006 5:09PM
Eh. Might be nice for Pureists but me? I'm fine useing the Classic for most needs. Alto i must admit holding the Orginal NES pad envokes Retroness(is that even a word?)
taiki @ Dec 2nd 2006 6:15PM
I own a CPS Fighter Stick. I would rather use this for Sf2 than the virtual console controller.
Ninegauger @ Dec 23rd 2006 11:24PM
I'm waiting for the adapter allowing the Classic Controller to be used as a Gamecube controller or on the PC.
Cobretti @ Jan 21st 2007 9:26AM
Ideally these classic adpaters shoudl plug into the bottom of the wii remote like the classic controller.
so they can be partly wireless.
I hate the gamecube ports looks like something is growing out of my wii.
