Crisis Core trailer emphasizes PSP shortcomings, offers hope
54
Square Enix's closed-door TGS trailer for Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core has finally surfaced. For the bulk of this five-minute demonstration, a handful of manicured men (and one woman) ham it up in a whirlwind of staged emotional drama. Are we supposed to want to play a soap opera? (Don't answer that.)
There are some brief moments of relief, glimpses into the game's active battle system, which suggest commonalities with Final Fantasy XII. There's no denying that Crisis Core appears extraordinarily capable; a bittersweet detail. That is, efforts like Crisis Core really highlight the lack of solid support for PSP. Alas, Square Enix's prequel has been a long time coming -- and, for those of us outside of Japan, the wait isn't getting any shorter.

You don't actually play a final fantasy game, you watch one. Its like a DVD with a lot of unnecessary menus to navigate.
I tried to get into FFVII, but I just couldn't. Maybe it was the lack of voice over throughout most of the game or the random 'battles' which you couldn't avoid or even fight in- just merely select actions that turned me away for good.

I like final fantansy, I like the creatures the characters, everything, and unlike many a game where the same character is kept and becomes dull, FF series have always been contiuously changing, so that every FF seems like a whole new RPG, each game focusing on a different aspect of the gameplay and the storyline.
And just because a game is braindead doesn't mean its not interesting, for every game there will be buyers, lets use world of warcraft for example, theres no plot, but its fun regardless, maybe because unlike Halo, you're not repeating the same thing, you travel to various parts of thw world and fight different monsters with different ppl, and the game just keeps on expanding, so by the time your bored you're back into it again exploring the new expansion. However, there will be ppl who quit WOW and wonder why they spent a portion of thier lives away from the sun playing that game as it can never be completed.
But I find strange is you moan about not liking FF in a FF article :S Why waste time posting that crap then?

"45. People that say final fantasy storylines are cliche have never played final fantasy games before. Not one final fantasy game is ever the same in terms of storyline, game play and even visuals."
I take it you don't even know what the world cliche means.
1. A trite or overused expression or idea
2. A person or character whose behavior is predictable or superficial
The whole Final Fantasy series fit both definitions. I can sum up the average JRPG title in a few sentences:
"A young male/female protagonist, usually without parents or one parent that turns out to not be their real parent, is held responsible for saving their world from destructions or restoring their once great world in a post-apocalyptic future. He/she befriends the same cast of characters; including the sexy/handsome princess/prince, big dumb strong person, the seductive female with huge breasts (tends to be the princess) or the prettyboy male with rippling muscles (tends to be the prince), and the comic relief person. They meet the same type of generic villan, who is set on ruling the world (or destroying it)."
Final Fantasy went downhill and lost its soul with 7. They started milking it to death when they merged with enix, and you fanboys keep buying this shit. You are about as worst as Gundam fanboys that will buy a turd with a mobile suit gundam action figure in it.

Wow. The trailer looks... interesting at best. It's great that their creating a sort of prequel to FFVII (which, IMO, is the greatest of the series), but creating it for the PSP? Their creating the whole "Before Crisis"... crisis again. While I'm not going to go out of my way to bash the PSP (I actually did have one at one point), I will say that SquareEnix would sell a lot more of these games if they just made them for the consoles.
FF fans (or, actually, FFVII fans) have been waiting for these kinds of prequels for ages (I know I have), yet Square goes out of their way to deliberately alienate a good chunk of their fanbase with this crap. I sold my PSP ages ago. My cellphone isn't a Advanced Futuristic Japanese cellphone. Why must they make us suffer like this?
That aside, yes. The trailer looks interesting. It would have been better had they made this into the DVD movie instead of Advent Children. Just as long as it gets a port to the PS2, I won't whine as much anymore. ^o^
Oh, and the whole cliche or not debate? Yes. FF games are cliche. Hell, all JRPGs are cliche, and you can say the same about western RPGs too. Hell, a good 99% of the games ever released have cliche elements in them, either in terms of story or gameplay.
And I'll end with this link.
