flOw on Dec. 19 for PS3, 2 more titles from USC devs in the works
thatgamecompany's expansion of flOw onto PlayStation 3 has finally been targeted for release on December 19*. Coinciding with this announcement is word of a three-game deal signed between Sony and the former USC Interactive Media Division students who founded thatgamecompany. Details about the two additional games have not been provided, but Sony has reserved a space for the team at its Santa Monica base."This is a watershed moment in the history of the school," recognized USC Dean Elizabeth M. Daley, "It builds on our tradition of expanding relationships with the professional community, and opens the door for our students and graduates to showcase their creative talents in an incredibly dynamic market." Guess the gang is sorta like the Bushes and Leinharts of the Interactive Media Division. Go Trojans!
*flOw will be offered as a premium downloadable title on the PlayStation Store.
Play flOw now.

fl0w looks to be an overworked version of Snake. *yawn*

By the screens on that page alone:
flOw=Looking badass
No idea what it's about, but it looks cool.
TopaZ @ Dec 1st 2006 11:17PM
Can't you just fire up your PS3 browser and play this for free?

Einhanderkiller @ Dec 1st 2006 11:35PM
As long as it's $5 or less, I'd buy it.
It should look very nice on a large HDTV.
David @ Dec 2nd 2006 12:10AM
Yeah...
You can download a free flash version online.
It was an awesome game, it was a project to perfectly balance challenge and skill so that the user never gets too skilled to get bored, or too challenged to give up.
It was pretty good.

Flow would be soo perfect for the Wii!
No Fair. :(
Flow = The Shit

The browser version is just a 2 level flash-based demo. Even the demo with the dumbed down graphics is great fun. This is one simple game that im actually really looking forward to.
Jecrell @ Dec 2nd 2006 12:46AM
... why do you people think Flow is fun? At best it's interesting, but 'fun'?
That's stretching it.
Ry @ Dec 2nd 2006 12:46AM
I found it didn't have anywhere near the replayability that Geometry Wars had, and considering this was announced how many moons ago as the PS3 Geometry Wars killer, I wasn't to impressed by it. Things are never too easy (good) or too hard (what's the challenge then?). Doesn't make it fun.
Einhanderkiller @ Dec 2nd 2006 12:58AM
"... why do you people think Flow is fun? At best it's interesting, but 'fun'?"
Because to some people it actually is fun?
Don Jose @ Dec 2nd 2006 1:52AM
flOw? zzZz.
It's boring with a mouse.
With a Sixaxis? coMa.
Mike @ Dec 2nd 2006 1:57AM
Flow for the PS3 will be different from the flash demo according to the developers. It has been reimagined from the ground up for the PS3.
You have to give Sony props for pushing original games on the Playstation Network as opposed to making a retro-game dumpstation.

if this is released on wii, everyone would be on his/her knees...

"if this is released on wii, everyone would be on his/her knees..."
Quote from actual Nintendo fanboy.
"HELL NAAWWW"
End quote.

One year later, and the best game on XBL is Geometry Wars that launched with the system. Nothing wrong with that at all.
And, if this were on Wii, it would be called Super Mario fLOw with Nintendo mascots everywhere... thats the only way it could sell on Nintendo platform.
nick @ Dec 2nd 2006 9:45AM
I thought this game was a launch title. It's still not out yet?
Sidepocket @ Dec 2nd 2006 10:38AM
Ok, I have played this game and do not care for it as a gamer but I will say this as a Nintendo fan...
I remember Sony employies scoffing the idea of Electroplankton on the DS with its "stupid graphical style" and "why would you wan't to play as a peice of protizoa when you could be killing Hellghasts?"
....
And now they have this game. I think that seems to be Sony's trend this yea. "Wha, OMFG this looks stupid, it willl never succee haha....crap its doing better than us lets copy, fast!" -,-;
bertie242 @ Dec 2nd 2006 11:16AM
Yeah... I played this on my computer over a month ago. And I currently have it on my computer for playing whenever I want.

I will be buying the PS3 version when it comes out. If the past is any indication, and excellent conversions like Every Extend to Every Extend Extra and Geometry Wars to Geometry Wars XBL attest to, putting next gen makeup on simple arcade titles can make them infinitely more fun, replayable, and engrossing. Every Extend and Geometry Wars (the orignal, PGR2 unlockable) are pretty boring after the first five minutes. But put a new coat of paint on them, and you find that you can't put them down. I hope the same rule applies to flOw.
To all the cynics and skeptics - if you don't like it, just leave it be. I haven't heard any outlets, Sony, press or otherwise, say that fl0w is the next coming. It's an interesting twist on snake type gameplay that is coming to the PS3. It's a free flash game like EE was, that is being reduex'd for the PS3 store... Why so much hyperbole about something you've a) never seen in person, and b) isn't a big deal in the least?
Brian (the REAL Brian) @ Dec 2nd 2006 2:42PM
I just played it for roughly 15 minutes, and personally I think it's lame as hell.
You just move around and gobble stuff. Get a little bigger. Gobble some more. Get a little bigger, chase after an enemy's dots, collect dots, get bigger, chase, move chase, gobble, chase, dots, gobble, chase.
*yawn*
Ouch. @ Dec 2nd 2006 7:41PM
And you wonder why the Wii is the only one not to have real puzzle games... (Wii play is more like a duck-hunted Fusion Frenzy, whatever that is.)
Every Extend Extra and Lumines are much more addicting than say, Brain Age. Shouldn't we be giving casual gamers games, not something derrived from Tony Buzan?
Stokky @ Dec 4th 2006 11:38AM
If this is the same Flow gameling I tried a few months ago, it looks a LOT like the first phase from Spore, swimming in that "cellular goo" and all. Pretty well done however.
