Today's hottest game video: PSP 'dual-analog' mod
Today's most-watched YouTube game video shows the result of a slick dual-analog mod for the PSP. Well, sort of ...We can't tell if the right analog-style stick is inputing variable speeds, or if it's just mirroring the digital face buttons. (We're leaning towards digital input through the analog-type stick.) Still, it's a cool hack, and your right thumb won't be jealous of the already-mentioned left-stick hack.
See the video after the break.

Actually, the right analog mod is mimicing the stock left analog, and the left analog mod is mimicing the digital face buttons. Also... since the left analog mod is mimicing the digital face buttons, there is no variable input, since the digital face buttons were not pressure sensitive. Ah well, still a cool mod. It's sad the PSP was just never designed with 2 analogs in the first place. Would've been great for FPS's.

Hey! Wow! That makes the PSP into a PS2 with a tiny screen and slower load times! Just what the PSP needed!
Now all that's missing is the overheating power supply and five surround sound speakers. With those additions, we should be able to vanquish all semblance of portability in this "portable" system and return it to its roots once and for all.
::rolls eyes::

Wow, that's pretty cool! But then again, I haven't used a handheld gaming system since the original gameboy, so it's all relative I guess ;)
Untamed @ Dec 2nd 2006 2:57AM
Argh. People complain about the dual analog control for consoles, and them someone says "it would've been great for FPS's".
Deekman @ Dec 2nd 2006 8:00AM
I think it's more likely that it's not doing anything because as soon as he plugs it in he moves the other analouge stick out of the cameras view.
Tim Robertson @ Dec 2nd 2006 8:05AM
I agree with Deekman, once he actually starts to move it, the camera pans to the right, and we cannot see the left hand, which is what is actually doing all the work. At least i think so.

@ #2 Corpse
The article shows a picture of a Ps2 CONTROLLER +
a PSP.
NOT a PS2 + a PSP
I personally don't care for it but it was indeed a hot video.

This is Fake! the image doesnt line up with the joystiq. its kinda weird that you cant see the left joystik when hes useing the right side
pixelator @ Dec 2nd 2006 12:27PM
There's just no point to this... No game support = waste of time.
And funny, all the people who say 'PSP coulda been an FPS contender with a second analog' seem to forget the N64 and Goldeneye/Perfect Dark...
pattyblades @ Dec 4th 2006 8:30PM
@9, that was at a time before duel analog, and it worked for those because they were slower paced, where as today the fps are alot more run and gun
Tripred @ Dec 2nd 2006 1:09PM
The modder in question that added the right stick to his PSP has already confirmed that it is fact not analog at all. It is merely an analog stick reproducing the right side face buttons.
I would also like to place my vote in the "not fake" ballot for this, since the same modder has already released design documentation on how to do your own left analog usb mod.
As far as the comment about the long loading times on the PSP - only noobs use UMDs, they deserve the load times if they don't know ways around it.

@ ds...
Well GUH! That's my point, dumbass. Why put a huge PS2 DualShock controller on a unit that's supposed to be "portable" when the end result is that you're taking away all the portability, and you end up with what is basically a half-assed PS2 with a tiny screen and slower load times?
Hey! Here's an idea! Let's hook up a dance pad to a Nintendo DS! Let's make a four foot tall tripod stand for the iPod. And hey! Just to make it more like our clocks at home, let's attach a huge magnifying lens to a wristwatch!!!
Portability sort of excludes carrying around a DualShock in your pocket. If you're going to stay home and play with a full-sized controller, then you might as well spend half as much and buy a PS2 instead of turning your overpriced portable into a home console.
Guh!
What's next? A mod to make the Wii as big as the PS3? Yay!
Alex D @ Dec 10th 2006 7:33AM
ZeroCorpse, did you even bother wathcing the video?
All this involves is carrying a small dongle around qith you, not a damn controller!
Raquor @ Dec 2nd 2006 2:51PM
@ 11...relax...it's just a picture.
The actual mod doesn't use a Dualshock controller. It just takes the previous analog mod and adds a second on the right hand side, basically they take the analog sticks from the dualshock and add mini-usb ports to the sides to plug the sticks into the system.
I think it's a dumb idea myself but whatever.

"Why put a huge PS2 DualShock controller on a unit"
He put a Analog stick on, not a controller. :|
Erdos Kronecker @ Dec 10th 2006 7:03PM
That's cool. PSP would be a lot more succesful if it was like a portable DVD player where you can also put your PS2 and PS1 collection of games (i.e. with a dual shock alike control scheme). A hard drive would have been good too, and something that makes it different to PS2 (like more power or more original gaming functionalities).
"Well GUH! That's my point, dumbass. bla bla bla Sony sucks ass. bla bla bla let's try and be funny/sarcastic while trying not to look like a fanboy"
Why does ZeroCorpse have 7 stars? The only thing I can discern from what he spouts is "bullshit". Nothing in his comments is useful, and he appears to be more like trolling. He also forgot that Microsoft consoles are just as defective as Sony's, and Nintendo's coming with "good quality" with the trade-off of other shortcomings of course; but maybe he has "fanboy amnesia" or "fanboy blindess" though.
