vg cats = win
Kurt @ Dec 2nd 2006 5:52PM
The VG Cats is awesome this week, but I live in Canada, and G4 is pretty much still Tech TV, with new Call For Helps and everything, so they don't get my vote.
Pikachelsea @ Dec 2nd 2006 6:03PM
Fanboys Online gets 1 demerit for blatantly stealing Penny Arcade's "you know it to be true" line. Come up with your own punchlines...
moopcow @ Dec 2nd 2006 6:13PM
I know its early, but gotta love that penny arcade is winning w/ an unfinished, uncolored, photographed sketch.
reguy @ Dec 2nd 2006 6:24PM
hahahaha morgan manjaw
socrates @ Dec 2nd 2006 6:18PM
If you're forced to choose a pile of crap to eat, you're going to pick the smallest one. VG cats's pile of crap looks like it was created by a mountain lion...the rest were evidently made by rhinos or giraffes. So I guess it wins....
I still don't fundamentally understand what it is about video games that makes people think that comics based exclusively in this medium is a grand use of their time. Books, movies, TV shows and other, much bigger entertainment areas all do fine without online comics about them (although I suppose that those "Angel from Buffy and Draco Malfoy hook up" fan fictions are the closest equivilent to video game webcomics). I like PVPonline, because it only taks about video games sometimes, and subordinates fascinating observations about games to the characters and jokes, not the other way around. Why don't they just make a funny webcomic about whatever, and then at the bottom write "Editor's note: we have played the new Zelda game. Good for us."
(I will be yelled at for judging these comics...even though Joystiq is putting them out there to be judged! This isn't the special olympics, they don't deserve being made an exception from good sense.)
Big Ed @ Dec 2nd 2006 6:22PM
It's "Vote for Penny Arcade, even though it isn't funny edition."
Eliot Phillips @ Dec 2nd 2006 6:26PM
There can be only one vectorman! It would have been funnier with swords though.
StalkerB @ Dec 2nd 2006 6:43PM
Woot, cascade failure made the list. Remember and read all the archives too :D
Tim @ Dec 2nd 2006 6:53PM
I don't even read them all anymore, I just mouse over them until I see Penny Arcade and I vote for that. Why? Because Tycho writes a damn fine news post about things I care about. None of these comics deserve to win anything, they're all garbage. Especially VG Cats. That thing was pathetic.
KnightRicer @ Dec 2nd 2006 6:55PM
This post needs a single button that will open every single page at once in a new tab. I always hate having to open everyone individually.
FinalDelerium @ Dec 2nd 2006 7:01PM
@3 - er, 'you know it to be true' is from this obscure, rarely seen film. Empire strikes back...
@5 - I dont understand exactly WHAT you're ranting about, but i enjoy a good rant as much as the next person, so rant away.
Also, i like saying rant.
and finally @6 - i laughed at penny arcade. I thought it was great, particularly because having played a fair bit of the wii, i have no freaking idea how a, people are losing their grips, b, the straps are snapping, c, they all happen to go straight for the TV and never anywhere else, and c, that after all that they STILL have enough force to break screens!
WatTsu @ Dec 2nd 2006 7:13PM
VG Cats actually hit a home run this week. When Scott's on target, he's terrific. When he makes three-page comics that really could have been done in two panels, then he's just asinine. This week's entry falls into the former. Good for him!
White Rose Duelist @ Dec 3rd 2006 10:51AM
The one time I watched G4, they lambasted the game they reviewed, and still gave it a 3/5.
Defenestrator2.0 @ Dec 3rd 2006 8:11PM
@10
Get out. Now. You have no right voting here if you don't even read the other web comics to compare before judging them. It's people like you that make me sick to my stomach. Besides, VGcats is funnier than you will EVER be. I laughed my ass off at that comic because 1) it's genuinely true about the show, and 2) I actually watch G4, which (presumably)is more than I can say for you.
John @ Dec 2nd 2006 8:54PM
Post 10 is verifies that people just vote for Penny Arcade blindly. I'm still in support of putting the Weekly Webcomic Wrapup on a separate page to try to weed people like that out. To compromise comics who want traffic from the front page, how about links to comics on the front page and the voting itself on a separate page?
Xander @ Dec 2nd 2006 9:30PM
PSTP got my vote this week, mostly because that IS the sound I'll be making when I finally get my hands on it this December (Only the GC version though, I can't afford no Wii...). I also love that for it to work he actually asks the GAME clerk for a copy of TP. Who the heck asks the store clerk for what he wants instead of just picking it off the shelf?
People who win weekly comic round-ups, dammit!
CJC @ Dec 2nd 2006 9:37PM
PStP wins this one for me, having done that same thing before.
Penny Arcade has actually been legitimately funny these past few weeks, they're on a roll it seems.
Thomas @ Dec 2nd 2006 10:22PM
Those first eight options were the stupidest attempts at humor anyone has come up with since the Japanese started having people fall down for no reason in their cartoons.
BPM? @ Dec 3rd 2006 3:06AM
I had to vote for PStP...
I did exactly that when I got my Wii and Twilight Princess at GameStop's midnight opening. ·_·'
I was the first one to leave the store with a Wii... And at least the clerks there got a good laugh out of my total nerdom.
Second place should go to DU. One, Vectorman is awesome. Two, math humor.
Christ, I'm a nerd.
Boing @ Dec 3rd 2006 11:39AM
Is there a reason that Joystiq is ignoring Ctrl-Alt-Del lately in it's Webcomic Wrapups?
CTRL-Alt-Del is usually funnier than all of the other choices that we're given.
BklynKid @ Dec 3rd 2006 11:46AM
They all suck. All webcomics do.
Sinister Rouge @ Dec 5th 2006 3:51PM
@ 22
VGCats is funnier than you'll ever be, too, but that isn't a complement.
Defenestrator2.0 @ Dec 5th 2006 6:12PM
@ 23
I'm perfectly willing to admit that VGcats is funnier than I'll ever be, because it's true. Scott has a genuine sense of humor.
