Sequels Sega needs to make
With Nintendo dropping four new Virtual Console titles every Monday, Sega Nerds has posted a list of ten sequels they'd like to see on a console near you. Heck, we just got Ecco the Dolphin this past Monday, so is this list timely or what? For us, the ones we'd really like to see are either an update of Skies of Arcadia, or some new hotness from Streets of Rage. We'd forgotten that game even existed until the picture slapped us across the face. Punching and kicking at its best.
What Sega classics (and we're using that term lightly) would you like to see? While you're busy wishing, Joystiq wants a solid gold PlayStation 3. Just a little holiday FYI.

I would like to see contra... All of the 8 and 16 bit ones
GL @ Dec 3rd 2006 3:12PM
I agree that I would like to see the Shenmue saga continued and I would LOVE to dive back into the Nights universe again. The one Sega mascot that seems to have been all but forgotten is Alex Kidd. I would really like to see him return to the scene, but maybe that is a character best left in the past.
Killzig @ Dec 3rd 2006 3:14PM
Mutant League Hockey/Football
sarthran @ Dec 3rd 2006 3:14PM
they should take it back to west mansion with the Splatterhouse series. damn those games were awsome!
Mister Fingers @ Dec 3rd 2006 3:16PM
REZ
REZ
Did I mention, REZ?
Foe @ Dec 3rd 2006 3:20PM
NiGHTS! Chu Chu Rocket!
Rauel Crespo @ Dec 3rd 2006 3:21PM
Ristar sequel, Panzer Dragoon Saga (remake), Jet Set Radio sequel, console Gunstar Hero, Nights sequel
Mark @ Dec 3rd 2006 3:21PM
Streets of Rage of course, and Guardian Heroes. Keep the games 2d, but with better graphics.
otakucode @ Dec 3rd 2006 3:25PM
PHANTASY STAR
And no this online action RPG bullshit does NOT count. Turn-based battles. Sci fi with mutant creatures. Colorful, great music, grand variety of weapons. The works. Extra super mega bonus points if it is still 2D but done with full 720p resolution artwork. A 2D game in HD with super high resolution artwork would blow everyones mind.
And Splatterhouse would definitely be good too, if it is kept 'light'. Don't turn it into a grinding, oppressive dark game. Toss some humor in there. Like Dead Rising but not as open ended, take some cues from the movie Feast. Make it so hardcore gory that it rivals an actual horror movie, and see if you can get it an AO rating based solely on that. Accept the AO unflinchingly and hawk it on your own website and eBay.
Mr. Khan @ Dec 3rd 2006 3:32PM
VIRTUAL ON (for any console)
SAMBA DI AMIGO (for PS3 or Wii)
of Course NiGHTS (Wii only would be best for that one)
and a GOOD 3D Sonic Game (mayhap Secret of the Rings will fulfill this)
And OtakuCode: You DID NOT just knock PSO/U
You did not,
I'll come back to this website and find out you were bullshitting
(goes off to grumble about people knocking the single best MMO series, bar None)
Ignatius @ Dec 3rd 2006 3:35PM
Rofl, Mr. Khan.. single best MMO series, more like single best repeating MMO series. I played like three 'different' PSOs and they all seemed to be the exact same game. God it was boring.
Darkness @ Dec 3rd 2006 3:37PM
There are a number of games I'd like to see Sega release:
On Virtual Console:
Shining Force 2
Shining Force CD
Streets of Rage 1 & 2
Shadowrun
Remakes:
Panzer Dragoon Saga
Shining Force 3 (parts 1-3)
Dragon Force
Burning Rangers
Shenmue (on the Wii)
Sequels:
Panzer Dragoon Saga (an actual RPG)
NiGHTS
Virtua Cop
Shenmue 3
There are some other games that I wish they would do but these are the main ones.
Luigi193 @ Dec 3rd 2006 3:42PM
A solid gold PS3! What does 4000 lbs of gold cost?
Stu L Tissimus @ Dec 3rd 2006 3:46PM
NiGHTS, Skies of Arcadia, Jet Set Radio, and Gunstar all deserve sequels.
dextro @ Dec 3rd 2006 3:47PM
Streets of Rage, Panzer Dragon, A decent sonic in line with sonic & knuckles (the last great sonic imho), Shenmue 3 (and final)... hell I'd even be happy with a new shenmue compilation for the next gen consoles!
Dave Silva @ Dec 3rd 2006 3:54PM
Phantasy Star V. Something that continues the original story. I want a real RPG, not a Diablo clone.
Abscissa @ Dec 3rd 2006 4:02PM
"What Sega classics (and we're using that term lightly)"
That "using that term lightly" is an outright slap in the face.
Abscissa @ Dec 3rd 2006 4:05PM
Let's not forget about Chakan! They were making a Dreamcast sequel which was sounding good but then they scrapped it.
And Dynamite Headdy! (Even though it's Treasure and not Sega - but hell, what Treasure game doesn't deserve a sequel?)
tcc3 @ Dec 3rd 2006 4:18PM
Am I the only one whu wants an HD, 3-D Ecco the Dolphin remake?
Geoffrey M. @ Dec 3rd 2006 4:27PM
Streets of Rage and Gunstar Heroes FTW!
virtua @ Dec 3rd 2006 4:27PM
WE NEED DARK WIZARD AND WAR OF LODOS
Milkshake @ Dec 3rd 2006 4:28PM
I would love to see on the 360 new versions of the following
Space Harrier
Streets of Rage
Scud Race
Burning Rangers
Shenmue 3
Nights
Virtua Cop
Virtual ON
One thing I would like also is the orignal Sega Rally or that the new Sega Rally coming has the same controls as the orignal something they have lost since the first one which in my opinion had the best feel to driving than any other rally game ever!!
Oh and i would like to see a new F355 as well come on sega you can do it.
Corbo @ Dec 3rd 2006 4:30PM
Definetly want a Skies of Arcadia sequel. I have the remade Legends edition on Gamecube and I can honestly say it's one of the most riveting RPGs on the console. The sheer number of characters and sidequests is overwhelming. A Wii update with a giant ships wheel stand peripheral in which you could place the remote would be brilliant. Unlikely, but brilliant.
J @ Dec 3rd 2006 4:36PM
Streets of Rage needs a sequel. But only if it goes in the vain of #2 and not #3. Streets of rage 3 was awful. It was like ti wasn't even developed by the same team!
Scout650 @ Dec 3rd 2006 4:39PM
I personally would like to OutRunners on the VC. That was a fun racing game. Sega should definitely finish off the Shenmue story on the Wii.
Chris G @ Dec 3rd 2006 4:39PM
Moonwalker!
There are so many new story possibilities that could extend the Michael Jackson videogame franchise, it boggles the mind.
Other, more serious votes:
-Rez
-NiGHTS
-Choplifter (please keep as a side scroller)
Darkness @ Dec 3rd 2006 4:47PM
@Abscissa
I forgot about Chakan. Man, that game was hard as hell on the Genesis. Too bad the Dreamcast update never made it out. Would love to see that released at some point. Maybe Chakan will show up on VC at some point. One can only hope. :D
Negativecool @ Dec 3rd 2006 5:09PM
I don't think you can possibly make a remake of any classic this gen and do it justice. The only way to do a remake justice would be to make it so good it becomes another classic. That just can't happen. Not with how many types of game genres, game immersion, graphics whore games, and advances in game innovation since.
Hell, look at Sonic. That character was so damn good he became the very face of Sega...turn him into 3D for next gen, and it instantly becomes crap.
In short, classics from back in the day should stay that way. Do not soil their memory with an attempt to bring them to this gen.
M @ Dec 3rd 2006 5:23PM
Fantasy Zone and Zillion
Charlie Hamsandwich @ Dec 3rd 2006 5:32PM
Herzog Zwei
Possibly the most addictive Genesis game ever. I got into more fist fights with my brothers than I can count while playing it.
"Yeah, how'd you like *that* SAM, fool!"
Ninx @ Dec 3rd 2006 5:37PM
I must agree with Streets of Rage and well...we got Golden Axe already (:))
I guess Sega needs to drop Shinobi 1 & 2 also on there.
Otter @ Dec 3rd 2006 5:49PM
Is road rash sega?
schuyler @ Dec 3rd 2006 5:51PM
Shining force (a real shining force game like 1 or 2 not shining ______)
Darkness @ Dec 3rd 2006 5:55PM
@Otter
Road Rash is Electronic Arts. Maybe EA will give us another Road Rash one of these days.
shouryuuken @ Dec 3rd 2006 5:55PM
streets of rage.
for wii:
alex kidd.
ristar.
nights.
shinobi. (not that ps2 crap.. i want joe musashi back.. throwing things.. not using his sword.. hayabusa is better at the slashing)
shining force 4. (something epic like 3 was.. im not a fan of the shining games on ps2 really)
guardian heroes. (a REAL sequel, although its technically not sega)
sonic. (yeah.. i know its kinda out of place.. but dang.. besides portable sonic, sonic heroes is the closest theyve gotten to the classic sonic formula if it werent for the 3 player thing)
vectorman.
oh
and STREETS OF RAGE.
diskoboy @ Dec 3rd 2006 5:56PM
NiGHTS, Zillion (a sequel like zillion 1. Zillion 2 sucked balls), Altered Beast, Fantasy Zone, Samba De Amigo, Panzer Dragoon Saga, and Jet Set Radio.
Joshua @ Dec 3rd 2006 6:10PM
For the love of god Kid Chameleon.
LongshotX @ Dec 3rd 2006 6:12PM

I'd also like to see Rez and Samba De Amigo
sicsided @ Dec 3rd 2006 6:25PM

Zombies at my Neighbors sequel would be damn nice.
Kostas @ Dec 3rd 2006 6:26PM

shinneri @ Dec 3rd 2006 6:28PM
Shenmue 3. :(
Shane @ Dec 3rd 2006 6:39PM
GENERAL CHAOS.
General Chaos + 3 friends and a multitap was the shit.
Guess its really EA ip but this game gets overlooked way too often.
Also not Sega, but a VC release of the TG-16 version of Gain Ground would kick serious ass.
Paul @ Dec 3rd 2006 6:54PM
I've had enough of my favorite franchises run into the ground by Sega. But I would like to see GOOD follow-ups to the following franchises.
Skies of Arcadia
Phantasy Star
Vectorman
Sonic
Jet Set Radio
Panzer Dragoon
Honestly, if Sega continues to follow their trend of sucking sequals, I'm not buying anything they put out.
dan @ Dec 3rd 2006 8:19PM
Fantasy Zone! NiGHTS! And of course, Greendog the Beached Surfer Dude!
mateo @ Dec 3rd 2006 8:40PM
Skies of Arcadia 2 FTW!! A sequel had been planned but I think the idea was canned when they were folded into Wow Entertainment. There was talk that it was still in the works for the longest time but that doesn't appear to be true anymore.
I would LOVE SoA 2.
GL @ Dec 3rd 2006 8:55PM
Some people, not a majority by any means, but some people need to keep in mind what franchises Sega actually has the rights to.
Lee @ Dec 3rd 2006 9:28PM
shenmue
Desert strike
both 360
Justin @ Dec 3rd 2006 10:11PM
GENERAL CHAOS WAS WICKED!!!!!!!!!!!!
would be wicked on the ps3 with insane graphics
