At a party at the PlayBoy mansion, outspoken developer David Jaffe (Twisted Metal, God of War) gave GameTrailers one of the most entertaining interviews we've seen in awhile. Under the heavy influence of alcohol (his claim, not ours), Jaffe explains that he has started preliminary work on God of War 3 as of November 10. "We're dying to make a new one, we're dying to make one on PS3," he announces.Though Sony has not yet given Jaffe the greenlight to go ahead and work on a third iteration, he has already started figuring out how to progress the story and has started to fill up a notebook and peruse what we assume are texts on Greek Mythology. Standing to his side is Jeff Reese from Sony Marketing, who may also be as drunk as Jaffe. He chimes in to explain how he envisions God of War as a story that continues on all platforms, culminating as a "classic battle-rama on the PS3." We would love to see that descriptor on the back of the game box.
Other tidbits from the interview:
- Jaffe, in response to EGM that his tearjerker PSP game was just a ruse while he tackled other projects, said "I just ***ed up my game on the PSP, it wasn't any good!"
- There are "a lot of ideas" on how to use the SIXAXIS' motion sensor controls "in every aspect of [God of War 3's] game design."
- Jaffe has some kind words to say about Microsoft's Xbox Live, noting that "we will always be thankful [for Xbox Live and Xbox Live Arcade]." He adds, "I'd like to think Sony is going to surpass on Xbox Live on all that they're doing, but I think there's room for all of us to play in that space" before making a Freudian slip with "Play Connected."
- In regards to online discussing that he has an ego problem, Jaffe admits that he is a B-level game designer ("C-level," Reese retorts). To prove his point, he negatively compares God of War's fighting system to that of Devil May Cry.

Riiiight. Maturity is moving past filthy language. Why should we put up with this filth?

Note to footlong!: You didn't play the game all the way though. It was much more than just a button-masher. There was puzzles, interesting creatures, things that took awhile to master climbing/jumping. It wasn't just kill, kill, kill. Can't wait for the others to come out!

I hope God of War 2 is better than the first and I thought the first one was awesome. It's rare that an ordinary puzzle/platformer will entertain me but that one hit the sweet spot.
But it will take more than a 3rd installment to make me go get a PS3. I need something as good as that, something as good & weird as Katamari, something as good and trippy as Rez, and something as good at letting off steam as Burnout (which I hear the 5th is on the way). Then I might pick up a ps3.

it was a genuine, drunken thank you to Sony fans. if they didn't buy the games, he wouldn't have a job, regardless of whether he worked on every single game. if Sony goes under, he loses his job.

Cool, Reese. Real cool.

I agree, God of war is easily the most over-rated PS2 games ever made. There are much better, and less repetitive games for PS2 out there.

Maturity is not worrying about what words people are using rather than what they are saying.

Halo is overrated.
Gears of War is overrated.
doesn't mean they're crap games (they clearly aren't), but like Borat, i'm sick of hearing about them.
and anyway, why is it that everyone else can have something to praise, but Sony can't?
Nintendo fans wax poetic about Zelda, Mario and Metroid (and the DS).
X Box fans wax poetic about Halo and Gears of War and Project Gotham Racing.
but god forbid a Sony fan mentions some quality Sony titles (ie, Shadow of the Colossus and God of War, or Gran Turismo), or even Metal Gear Solid or Final Fantasy, and all of a sudden the games are crap and overrated and unoriginal. originality doesn't always equate to fantastic and amazing. simple interface doesn't always equate to fantastic and amazing. pretty graphics don't always equate to fantastic and amazing.
if titles like God of War, Shadow of the Colossus, Ico, Gran Turismo, Resistance, etc, were on the 360 or Wii, you guys wouldn't shut up about how amazing they are. but since they come from Sony, oh god no, they are teh suxxorz!
i may think that Halo and Gears of War are overrated, but i don't think they suck. not by a longshot. it's fine to have your own opinions of course, but the blatant and outright hatred and dismissal of Sony even when they do things right and are worthy of praise (it's been rare this year, but they have done some good things, amidst all the PR Bull: on a side note, you guys need to seriously need to learn to decipher PR speak. it's all BS, whether from Sony, Microsoft, or Nintendo). it amazes me.

About PS3 vs. 360, I have both. Anyone who wants to make a comparison between the two should at least own and play the two systems on their own HD television before making any comments. The 360 is an awesome system. Gears of War is extremely fun as well as a number of other titles out for it right now. The user interface is so easy to use and navigate around that is it a pleasure to use the 360. Xbox live is awesome and nothing should be taken away from it. In all, I wouldn't trade my 360 in for any system. Instead, I would just buy another, and that's what I did. The PS3 is wonderful. The games out for it now are good, with the exception of Resistence, which is excellent. But I remember when the 360 first came out, and the games for it at that time were just good. Not until near the release of the PS3 did Microsoft release GREAT games for the 360. That in itself shows that Microsoft is a little worried about what the PS3 can do. I myself love the Blu-ray disc player. My television supports 1080p so the pictures on the movies are outstanding. What really sucks about all this is that everyone tries to compare and contrast the PS3 and the 360. Why does everyone do this? Why do we have to choose sides? It's like Coke and Pepsi, McDonald's and Burger King, Chevy or Ford. Who cares about taking sides. I sure as hell don't. I like variety, that's whats good about America -- we can choose to have many different things. I like the 360 and the PS3. They're both bad ass systems. And 2007 will prove to be a good game year for both systems. Don't you wan't to be able to come home and be able to play Metal Gear Solid 4 and Mass Effect? Everyone should just quit bickering about which system is better and get both. And as much money as you gamers spend on buying the damn games, just rent them and spend the money you would have spent on buying another system. Think about it, $400-$500 is not alot of money to save up, so just do it. I am a single father who works full time and goes to school full time, and I still was able to purchase both systems. Not only that, but I am saving some money to get a Wii also, so I can have a complete gaming experience. Just quit fighting over what systems or games are the best and just play the damn things. It's just entertainment anyway.
