Halo 3 reminder: commercial and public beta today [update 1]

As Bungie announced in the ~~lame~~ strategically timed early-morning web update, Master Chief will appear in a Halo 3 commercial during tonight's Monday Night Football. Today also signals the registration frenzy to try to score a slot in the Halo 3 public beta (a.k.a Pimps at Sea); check the Halo 3 site for details. (The site wasn't yet updated when this post went live, but we expect a "many will enter, few will win" scenario.)

The 60-second commercial will air on ESPN sometime between 5:50 and 6:20PM PST in North America. The rest of the world can download the commercial at Xbox.com beginning at 9:00PM PST (04.00 GMT). The ad is a mix of live and computer-animated footage, but it won't include any in-game shots. ~~Only North American gamers are currently eligible for the Halo 3 beta~~. The beta will start as a NA exclusive for a select number of users and then will be opened to everyone, everywhere.

If you have to sign up and get lucky to get a slot, that's not an open beta.

In fact, I think that's what they call a closed beta, which is the opposite of an open beta.

Open beta refers to it being open to the public even if it is limited. As opposed to closed testing which is held in house by paid individuals.

But that's not what "Open Beta" means. I don't care what Bungie says, it's not an "Open Beta" if you have to sign up and get chosen, the same way that it's not an "Open Door" just because it isn't locked.

webrunner - how about "Open Beta Signups," will that help remove the stick from your rectum? It should be ambiguous to satisfy you, since it can be read as "open: beta signups" or "open beta - sign up."

One way or another, I want a damn link to ye olde entry submission form.

Actually, I'm sorry, let's go back and revise in the first place.... Where exactly was this ever touted as an open beta, anyway? The post says "public beta." Nowhere is it indicated whether it's "open" or not. Still, I can't believe I just wasted two comments on this.

Why are not these games being ported to PC. PLEASE. Remember where the primary players built the support of most games.
Okay to drop'm out for the consoles. But do bring'm on to the pc players who have the better hardware and better graphics. Consoles die off with technology after 14months. PC's just get better and well now cheaper. More flexable and well you do have use your brain from time to time. PC Editions are coming !... WHEN!
