RoboBlitz hitting Xbox Live Arcade this week
Another new franchise is arriving on Xbox Live Arcade this week, one that notably boasts robots, explosions, and in certain circumstances, exploding robots. Developed by Naked Sky Entertainment, RoboBlitz sees you guiding a charming little contraption through all manner of gear-grating, cog-crunching puzzles and ridding the world of nasty space pirates. You know, pirates. But in space.Other key phrases you might associate with RoboBlitz are "physics-driven challenges," "Unreal Engine 3" and "available this Wednesday, December 6, at 1AM PST." According to the press release (read it after the break), the trial version will offer three different levels in its attempt to get 1200 MS points (that's $15) out of you for the full game. As one of the more expensive titles on Microsoft's service, its argument will have to be persuasive indeed. Penny-pinchers might also consider the Steam version on PC -- at $14.99, it makes for a saving of one whole cent.

Random Question but ...
Does anyone know if a standard USB 2.0 WIFI adaptor will work in the 360 instead of the Microsoft-made one?
Thanks,
lou

Guess some one is a Heroes fan...

Tried the demo. This game is terrible. That is all.
Kyouryuu @ Dec 5th 2006 1:15AM
Note, though, that the PC version does require a pretty recent video card. They didn't bother to support cards even two-years old in Unreal Engine 3, which is kind of sad considering that RoboBlitz's gameplay isn't exactly revolutionary.

No a standard USB 2.0 WIFI adaptor will not work. But you can use a wireless bridge or gaming adaptor that have there own power & connect via the network port.

My £'s go a lot further on STEAM than they do on XBLA.
bookishboy @ Dec 5th 2006 11:36AM
Joystiq, don't ignore another news-worthy aspect of this game. This is the first XBLA game (that I'm aware of) to make use of procedurally-generated textures. This allowed the developers to bring the size of the game down from 500+ megabytes of information down to the below-50 megabytes required by XBLA in order to be distributed.
All the textures in this game are stored as algorithms rather than images. This is important not only for download-able games like this one, but also for future high-def games. The ability to compress textures this much asks the question whether we seriously need the newer hi-capacity formats being offered. Blu-Ray and HD-DVD may just not be necessary.

14 is right! the signifigance of this game is that it uses procedural texturing and makes it look awesome!!!

All right! Another indie game! Maybe the era of crappy old coin-op titles is over.

I guess this is somehow related to Xbox Live because it will eventually end up on Marketplace. Okay, fine it's not that related to the topic, but I felt like letting you guys know as soon as it happened. The commercial didn't even seem like it was for Halo 3 at first, which is why it felt a lot shorter than a minute.
*mild spoilers*
You see the shadows of what seems like two kids by themselves on an island. They are wondering what it's like for everyone else outside the island. It was kind of hard to hear what they were saying, but it was something along the lines of "I'm sure everyone else is wondering about us as well". I think.
Anyway all of a sudden you cut to a desert where you here gunshots firing off in the background. You see Master Chief's helmet on the ground, and a guy grabs it. Then he grabs a gun, and starts running. All of a sudden he throws what looks like a grenade on the ground, but it forms a shield bubble. Some sort of laser gets shot at him, but it gets deflected. Then he keeps on running, until he reaches the top of a hill. He leans over and sees a whole army facing his direction and marching forward. He jumps down right at them.
The screen cuts to "Halo 3 Finish the Fight"
My description isn't perfect but I'm sure you'll get to understand it more once it gets put on YouTube. I just wanted to put out an initial report.

"Another new franchise is arriving on Xbox Live Arcade this week, one that notably boasts robots, explosions, and in certain circumstances, exploding robots." Best line ever in a Joystiq article.
