Wow... if these are the kind of releases we have to look forward to on HDDVD.... Thank you Micrsoft for not saddling us with the player and making the 360 $200 more expensive; The movie list on XBLM is more exciting.

Picked up an HD-DVD for my 360 along with a new Panasonic TH-50PX60U 50" plasma. I spent the weekend watching my Bruins beat USC in HD (had to mention that!) and some HD-DVDs. Watched "Superman Returns," "Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift," and "The Bourne Supremacy." It was freakin' amazing. I can't begin to describe how beautiful the picture was. Needless to say I've got my Netflix queue loaded up with HD-DVDs now.

One thing that I think is getting overlooked in the current format wars is that you can now buy HD-DVD/DVD combos. I picked up "Superman Returns" that way. This is a HUGE advantage over Blu-Ray as it ensures your collection won't become obsolete and allows you to enjoy the movie on devices other than your HD-DVD player.

Oh, and btw, you haven't played Gears until you've played it on a 50" HD. :)

I tried pretty hard to get through Miami Vice, I really did. But goddamn that's a terrible movie.

Thanks XboxFanboy! This is a great topic for your blog. I will definately be checking it out every week.

Another good idea would be this week in xbox live movies or you cold combine it with this topic.

#1 (AoE) I would recommend you picking up the hd dvd for your xbox 360. The movies look awesome and there are plenty of great movies to pick from and more to come. Both King Kong and Superman Returns look and sound amazing. You don't even have to buy a new cable for your tv. Pretty good deal if you ask me.

Personally I am really looking forward to the Matrix series. Plus, you can still download the movies from xbox live.

I say you should tie-in the HD-DVD player with X3F (like the acronym? eh?) by giving away a new player every Monday!

Just tell Joystiq to tell Weblogs, Inc. to tell AOL to buy a bunch of HD-DVD units. :p

I don't buy any HD-DVD movies (OK OK..I bought Enter The Dragon. But that's a timeless classic).

I only rent them from Netflix. The selection still isn't very good at all, but hopefully they'll keep churning them out at higher rates.

Those are some good choices ... Christmas Story & Christmas Vacation are awesome movies. And thanks for bringing up the USC loss Kbeat ... I will continue to cry now.

I agree with MIkesOnline, you should do this for Xbox Live Marketplace movies as well.

I can't tell for sure, but I think they've added some "classic" movies since the service launched. It's quite an odd collection right now, and they don't have enough newer movies, but the service is promising.

Xbox 720 better have support for both HD-DVD and BluRay. DVD is STILL the only format supported across the board. Refuse to choose! Take a stand and demand a standard!

Hmmm.... Netflix does HD DVD? Sweet.

I bought my 360 HD DVD drive last week only to realize that there are very few movies out with "amazing visuals". And they are all damn expensive. I rarely spend more than $15 on a DVD, I'm not going to spend $25-$30 on an HD DVD unless it is a "must-have" visual masterpiece.

After spending $30-$50 for laserdiscs back in the day, DVD pricing has be spoiled.

I've already bought it in 3 incarnations so far - I just want Fifth Element in HD-DVD now.

hd dvd is sweet. i got mine last week and i've rented 5 movies from blockbuster, they need to get more, and i downloaded v is for vendetta off of live. Waiting for gladiator to come out on hd dvd.

They definitely need to hurry up and come out with more titles. and they are a little pricey. I'll buy one good one to show off my system, but the rest i'll just rent.

oh, and Kbeat, if you think 50" Hd Gears of War is something try 119" Hd Gears :p

Blockbuster online also has HD-DVD. If it's out in HD-DVD, Blockbuster seems to have it. They have a distribution center right where I live so it only takes 1 day to get a movie. So spending 200 dollars on the HD-DVD player and then renting through the format wars is cheap enough for me. I did buy Nacho Libre in HD though.

...or you could stop wasting your time and just provide a link to your own network's EngadgetHD.com, which is much more extensive anyway :P

As far as AOE's post, well that's just ignorant... don't blame the format for a shitty release week, geeze. I guess by that rationale I guess we should burn our DVD playes this week too.
