After all the reviewers panned it for lacking depth, it's been quite the surprise. If I wasn't so busy with Zelda (beat it, now just looking for bugs and poes), I would have invested a lot more time in it, methinks.

Kudos to Nintendo for putting out a fun little title. Can't wait to get Wii Play, too.

Seriously, what would video games be WITHOUT this stuff?
It's part of the fun, isn't it?

I think packing in wii sports is easily the best idea nintendo ever had. Like tetris was to the gameboy, it allows the stregnths of the console to immidietely benefit the consumer, yet is not so involving that it detracts from other software sales. There arnt many people looking at wii and going 'i dont get it...what am I supposed to do with this?", as wii sports conveys the concept quickly and completely, as well as being damn good fun (or so ive heard).

Perhaps this is an idea sony will borrow; packing in a short demo type game that shows off the power of the ps3 and also its 'innovative' sixaxis controller. Gamers should get something to play for their 600 bucks. And I dont mean a shitty movie.

Wii Sports has created at least 20 new Wii buyers - my console has been played by over 30 people, and the majority of those players are convinced that they want one. I'm sure many people have had the same experience.

Wii Sports has racked up quadruple the amount of time as Zelda on my console, quite the surprise I must say. I've played Zelda for 15 hours, Madden for 10 hours, and, all told, Wii Sports has racked up over 60 hours with everyone trying it out and having tons of fun.

I just wish these "tricks" were documented - the booklet should let you know how to change your ball color or pitch underhanded.

Should've thought about pressing every button when I tried Wii Bowling. That'll be for future reference for all simple, Nin games

Sleeper-hit indeed! I hear it has an attach rate of nearly 1:1! Who saw it coming?

I'm glad these things weren't in the manual. These little Easter eggs are awesome because you accidentally trigger one and then say, "Wow! How do I do that again?!" and it gives you that much more reason to stay interested in the games.

I wonder if Nintendo has the capability of refreshing this game via firmware updates? If that's the case I understand why many of these are undocumented, because they can slip them into the game over time.

Boxing seems to have become more responsive since I first played, which has prompted me to wonder if they've updated Wii Sports through a firmware patch.

As a game, I think there are some things that could have been done better in WiiSports (the options on some of the games are fairly limited. It would be nice to be able to play a full set or a full match of tennis rather than just best of 1, 3 or 5 options.) In spite of that, the game is truly a system seller. My parents are hooked on the bowling, my usually non game-playing sister is trying to find a Wii now, and I took my Wii over to a large family gathering yesterday and it was a big hit, with several people falling into the "I want one of those" category. The other games have hardly even made it out of their boxes so far. I have to agree that putting WiiSports in the box may just be the smartest thing Nintendo has ever done.

"I just wish these "tricks" were documented - the booklet should let you know how to change your ball color or pitch underhanded."

I have to second #8 in this regard: I like the fact that they're not included. It's like a throw back to the old days of video gaming when you figured things out on your own by accident or just sheer sleep deprived insanity. It's also kind of a cheap way of adding depth since it's not featured but you can find out about it later and it adds a new wrinkle to the game that you weren't expecting.

By the way, am I the only one that spent 15 minutes chasing the cat around in the Wii menu? There's a cat somewhere- I forget specifically where- but, if you catch him, he tells you little secrets about the Puzzle game, Photo Editor, etc.

Er, sorry about the double post. For some reason Joystiq sent me another e-mail, about 6 hours after I initially confirmed my first post. I clicked it thinking maybe it didn't work the first time or it was lost. Looks like it was already there!
