People are still buying ANY game console. To the person rambling about the 360 backwards compatibility:
You need to buy the hard drive(or get the premium version) + check if the game works.

Yeah, that's why the compatibility sucks ass. That's the huge flaw of the 360.

I'm more than willing to add to the 360's sales numbers last month... but with all these talk of hardware still failing even a year after it's launch, I'm too hesitant to do so.

Well the site this "Article" supposidely based it's information on.. It doesn't even have an article about xbox sales. So definitely a big FAKE.

$400-$600 is WAY too much money for game consoles for the general public. Forget what Sony says and Microsoft wishes, the next generation really starts when these systems are somewhere near the magic $200 buy-it-on-a-whim price point.

some of you need to read the updagte. this is a article from 2002 about the original xbox lol. this is so funny. fanboys donlt even read the comments or the full article or check out the source material

well if xbox 360 sold 478,000 in 2002 i would be concerned since ms must have found a way to bend time and space.

i am so scared

pre npd data suggest ms sold 750,00+ xbox 360's this past month

http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=11952

joystiq should add this to the update to let people know that the xbox 360 has sold very well in nov and the rest of you read the first update. this article got reposted by google for some reason and has spread like wild fire all day. its false and is from 2002

""And yes the wii is extremely expensive considering you dont get a dvd player and the graphics are 5 years old. ""

I wouldn't say 5 years old. At anyrate, Wii + stand alone DVD < 360.

What's your next complaint, the DS doesn't have an organizer or cell phone functionality?

This story is such bullshit, the 360 is outselling both the Wii and the PS3 this month, at least in North America. Competition on Ebay for the 360 is high at the moment.

Biggen - you're an idiot.

Just look at how consoles historically do during the holiday season.

If Microsoft can't get near 10 million they're pissing away the massive lead Sony has spotted them.

The problem is the lack of a price cut or bundled game. They held back, assuming they can mop the floor with the PS3. This is true. But their competition this holiday isn't the PS3. And it isn't the Wii. It's the PS2.

They had PS3s available at Best Buy here in Jax earlier this week. I passes. I like my 360. I was considering e-baying it but I think the demand is down now. I actually felt bad for the people getting shot over it when its available in stores now.

Why won't Joystiq pull this post?

The "news" is from 2002 and the quoted sales figures are from the original Xbox, not the 360.

Hello?

Boy...you guys, especially Milkshake have already figured it all out...Now that PS3 and Wii have been on the market for less than three weeks, you already figured it all out...wow, you guys should become analysts.

Now I can go and sell my PS3 on Ebay for more than I paid for it. Then, with my cut of the sale I'll buy a Wii. And while I'm at it, just sell my HDTV, cause I won't need it thanks to Wii's incredible graphic capability. Thanks man!

As far as Sony goes....they still have the number one selling console on the market, the Playstation 2. Still outselling every other console. I don't think Sony or it's developers are walking away from that cash cow anytime soon.

@Brett:"> New experiences are not possible if the focus is on more realistic graphics.

Just might be the worst sentence ever posted. Anywhere."

No, it's not, it's pretty close to true. Given infinite money and time, you're right. Given realistic limitations, he's a lot closer. When you spend more on graphics, something's got to give.

AS for the PS2, the only reason the damn thing sold so many is because it keeps breaking after warranty! I know, got a PS2 in 2001, breaks 2002 and I buy a new one. I am lucky though, I have friends that are on their 3rd and 4th PS2. This is ONE of the major reasons why I won't get a PS3 for a couple of years. The other is the damn price.

I am sure the PS2 are selling better now because of the price. From my experiences, it only sold so well years ago, cause the damn things kept breaking.

I find this "next gen war" amusing.I understand people enjoy talking about it and it's fun throwing insults back and forth but I don't think there is a war or has been as far as the ps3 and 360 goes.I have a ps2 and own a 360.I'm not getting a ps3 because I'm not rich enough to have both and after researching I've made my choice to go with the 360.In my humble opinion the ps3 will sell more consoles than the 360.The question is,how long will it take?Just because I think the ps3 will outsell the 360 doesn't mean I think the ps3 is better or has more to offer.Common sense tells me that Sony having a 70 per cent market share with the ps2 has nothing to prove. It's Microsoft that has something to prove.Microsoft(xbox)has a reputation, true or not,of not having enough good games. That reputation will carries over to the 360 unless they do something to change that and it appears they are trying to change that.It looks like they have some really good games coming out that interest me.Games for the 360 like Gears of War,Bioshock,Mass Effect,Lost Planet etc...Microsoft is working real hard to put out real good games and it shows. There's too many people out there with a ps2 that want a ps3.If not now then in the future. The only question is how long will it take the ps3 to outsell the 360?A year, year and a half, two years? The bottom line is it doesn't matter who wins the so called war.The only thing that does matter is that both sides are happy.I hope the 360 owners are happy with what they have and the ps3 owners are happy with what they have.A year or two from now both the ps3 and 360 are going to have games and hardware to be proud of.If both sides are happy then who claims victory?

No one wants to buy a faulty 400 dollar machine that costs another 140 dollars to ship in for montly repair and the red eyed syndrome is better for a holloween window ornament.
Microsoft is in the long run ruining thier business with the hasty decision to put an overheating monster out.
