They forgot to mention the game is missing a MAJOR component: Coming on a PS2 disc. Someday, hopefully. I'm not spending $250 for one game.

"...proof that PSP is a capable platform"

Coming from Joystiq, HUGE praise indeed.

Meanwhile, the bashers keep up the usual tripe:

"I'm not spending $250 for one game."

And of course, this is always from those who haven't really given the platform a try. Those of us who have, there have been plenty of good games, especially in recent weeks. It's no chart-topper like the DS Lite, but it's still quite worthwhile.

If you don't think the PSP already had a Killer App, this is it. Tho, Ace Combat, Killzone, and Lumines already made my PSP purchase worth it, this one just drives the point further home.

*Goes back to playing MGS:PO*

Is this coming out at places like Gamestop and the like? Both Target and Best Buy (which, despite not being game stores, are far more convenient for me) say that this isn't going on sale until next week.

You'd think, being Metal Gear, this would be a bit more present in the retail space.

Its not the first one crono141. Usually PSP games score higher on reviews than NDS games do. Thanks for bringing your fanboy attitude to the thread tho. It really adds to the discussion.

HUH?!? been living on the moon much?

LUMINES
LUMINES II
TEKKEN: DARK RESURRECTION
RIDGE RACER
MLB 06 THE SHOW
GRAND THEFT AUTO: VICE CITY STORIES
GRAND THEFT AUTO: LIBERTY CITY STORIES
KILLZONE: LIBERATION
ACE COMBAT X: SKIES OF DECEPTION
SOCOM: US NAVY SEALS FIRETEAM BRAVO 2
SYPHON FILTER: DARK MIRROR
SEGA GENESIS COLLECTION
X-MEN LEGENDS II: RISE OF APOCALYPSE
VIRTUA TENNIS: WORLD TOUR
LOCOROCO
BURNOUT LEGENDS
DAXTER
WIPEOUT PURE
LIST GOES ON ... (LEGO, OUTRUN, MEGA MAN...)

AND NOW METAL GEAR SOLID: PORTABLE OPS.

ALL HAVE GOTTEN NINETIES SOMEWHERE OR ANOTHER, AND ARE CONSIDERED GOOD GAMES. THE PERCEPTION THAT THE PSP HAS NO GOOD GAMES IS THE SADDEST THING IN THE GAMING SCENE RIGHT NOW.

Wow, I might actually buy a PSP for this. And for the homebrew.

Hmmm....the going rate is around $150ish on Ebay. Thinking...thinking.

Maybe. Hopefully the hacks come soon to get ultra powerful characters to spawn from any WiFi spot.

Hey, Dispel Rumors. We know crono is willfully stupid - but you don't have to be obnoxious in pointing that out! Give our eyeballs a rest.

@DISPELL RUMORS

Before you go spouting out about all these 90+ rated games, perhaps you should view metacritic.com and the top 20 list of PSP games.

Not a single one has ever reached 90+ in overall aggregated ratings, Lumines is the top at 89.

On the other hand, the DS has had exactly 2 games reach 90 or above. They would be Mario Kart DS at 91 followed by Advance Wars DS at 90.

(This post is for informational purposes only and to help dispell rumors. I own both portable consoles.)

Socrates:

I'm willfully ignorant. Get it right!

Aren't, like, 90% of those games on the PS2 or have a game with a similar name and identical gameplay on the PS2?

no trolling, let's keep it clean. I have a good library for my PSP.

Wipeout
Tekken
Ridge Racer
Armored core
Lumines
Street Fighter Alpha

But I could care less about MG:PO Why? Because Monster Hunter Freedom is the best PSP game available and one of the best portable games ever made, reviewers be damned. I logged in over 170 hours into that game and got some great armor and weapons and I'm STILL not half way through it. Multiplayer is fantastic with the bogus omission of online play. Other than that It's flat-out awesome and worth a PSP purchase alone.

But...to the DS critics...Don't hate,

I'm still rocking FFIII, I just bought Castevania: Portrait of Ruin- Special Edition, I still have to play Elite Beat Agents, Magical Vacation, Trauma Center and I'm still loving Metroid Prime Hunters, Mario Kart, Tony Hawk's DHJ and Tetris online. There's still a hell of a lot of portable love for my DS. Can't we all just get along....

i said somewhere or other (gamespot, 1up, ign, etc.) not a cumilative average of every piece of shit site out there handing out scores. because the original guy i was venting at said some 90plus scores, so these are games that have gotten some 90plus scores (and of course some lesser scores just the same, like MPOO got an 80 from gamepro).

THIS IS HOW THE PSP SHOULD HAVE FIRST INTRODUCED ITSELF- with an incredible lineup of 'cant-turn-it-off' games. now i'm more satisfied than ever for buying a PSP. Huh, DS what??

I have had tons of reasons to have my psp over this year. Tekken is the best handheld fighter ever. Lumines 2 is just as good as the original. MGS:PO was made by a company that actually CARED about making a good PSP game, instead of shoehorning a franchise into portable form. I think this should come as a lesson to other developers, that its not the hardware's falt at all, its their own.

As for average metacritic scores, I dont think they matter much. They include tons of no-name sites that dont have the track record of credibility that the larger sites developed. So many games get lower than they deserve just because of less than credible sites that arent exactly balanced.

Yeah but Its on the go! I mean unless you have no life then I guess I can see why you don't want it on the go. Tekken: DR was a life saver when I was getting my ID at the DMV!

This is proof that the PSP does not suck, just the crappy devs that insist on porting over PS@ games. Make a game from the ground up for the PS and you get good results. Same for the DS and any other platform. Ports never show what a system acan really do.
