These kinds of gloves have been in development for years before and since the Power Glove - look up wired glove, dataglove, or cyberglove. It was just the first (not only) one to be made relatively cheap and available to consumers

Welcome to 2003! The P5 Glove was an excellent technology that provided 6 degrees of tracking. I tried it at E3 playing Hitman and it worked great. But the PC peripheral adoption rate is generally so low it's nearly impossible to generate any momentum with publishers for support. Here's a link to the P5 Glove: http://www.vrealities.com/P5.html

I think a sign-language interpreter would be sweet.

"just imagine being able to flip someone the bird and see it accurately recreated in your game of Barbie's Horse Adventure 2: the Revenge. How's that for interactive?"

That's the best idea ever. ;)

Hey guys it would be totally cool if Nintendo came out with a Power Suit, and you could use it with Metroid, and you could roll up into a morph ball and roll around your living room. All the kids in town would think you were so cool and would totally want to do you.

"..the glove is also being considered for use as a virtual mobile keyboard or a sign language interpreter."

Power On! Captain Kutaragi and the Sony Execs of the Future!

Earth, 2147: the legacy of the video game wars, when Sony faught Mircosoft, and Microsoft won...

It's just not feasible. For many reasons.

What if you have to pause the game and use the bathroom? The player will have to remove the glove over and over. This can become a chore.

They would have to make SEVERAL different sizes, or somehow figure out how a single size glove can fit smaller or larger hands.

Carpal tunnel syndrome anyone?

It's great in concept... but I don't think it's practical at all.

Being forced to watch The Wizard again is a hell no one wants to endure. "HE TOUCHED MY BREAST!" (If you don't know the Power Glove connection there...)

These guys probably found the old Power Glove serial interface that's been sitting in the back of the closet in L510 for like fifteen years. When I went to school there, every year we'd dream about bringing that thing back in some improved form for the Engineering Open House. Glad to see someone finally made something of it.
