K4rn4ge to attempt 1 billion-point Geometry Wars high score
As if his leaderboard-topping score of 360,360,600 isn't enough, Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved celeb K4rn4ge has revealed plans to attempt to reach the one billion-point mark during his upcoming winter break. The "Geometry Warlord" estimates that his current high score (he stopped at the 360 million-mark on purpose) took him at least 30 hours, spread across four days of playing. At that pace, his new goal could exceed 90 hours of thumb twirling. Whad'ya think, Guinness Record worthy?

My high score is 450,000 something; I'm impressed by those who can break one millon but spending 90 hours shooting squares looks like a waste of time. He already has the high score, what else does he want?
john @ Dec 7th 2006 6:01PM
Yea, guinness record worthy, definatly.
1 billion would be ridiculous. MS should give him a trophy lol. Assuming he makes it.
anonymous @ Dec 7th 2006 6:04PM
he deserves to be raped by lions in a plain.
Todd @ Dec 7th 2006 6:04PM
Wow... that's a lot of time and effort. I'd rather spend time with my girlfriend.
sy @ Dec 7th 2006 6:05PM
"K4rn4ge has revealed plans..."
they were a secret.
KineticOnline @ Dec 7th 2006 6:09PM
Good thing he isnt going to be going for the old british billion (now know as a trillion)
But seriously i dont know if this is something i should be seriously impressed by or if i feel sorry for the guy. (kinda leaning towards the latter)
Dirtyboy @ Dec 7th 2006 6:15PM
Yup, it's No Life worthy =P
I am teh suck at that game.
algernon @ Dec 7th 2006 6:16PM
is that his excuse for not having friends?
Dopple Boppler @ Dec 7th 2006 6:17PM
I've never broken three million. This guy is the cat's pajamas.
JBurton90 @ Dec 7th 2006 6:25PM
DAMN! My highest is only 2.8 million.
Ninegauger @ Dec 7th 2006 6:28PM
That's crazy, if he does it I should hope that would be enough to make him the Geometry Wars King for all time.
It's one thing to be number one, it's another to make a giant gap between number 2 and number 1.
If he succeeds I don't think anyone will ever go for the high score again.
JohnQAnonymous @ Dec 7th 2006 6:34PM
What would be funny is if someone broke a billion first. :)
biltmore @ Dec 7th 2006 6:39PM
Damn, I can't get past 280,000 ,,, the shit just gets waay to crazy for me. This guy is nuts!!!
Soulo Okalani @ Dec 7th 2006 6:43PM
Unfortunately... Even if he breaks one billion, he'll still be leaps and bounds behind his current standing record of going a consecutive 137 billion straight seconds without ever seeing a girl naked...
HIYOOOOO... try the lamb, tip your waitress... i'll be here all... well, for another 10 minutes actually.
Jeff @ Dec 7th 2006 6:44PM
I missed the newsworthy information in this post, where was it?
Miniboss @ Dec 7th 2006 6:48PM
I like all the "waste of time" posters. Oh the irony.
Tig @ Dec 7th 2006 6:49PM
Wow, it's a blog, not a news outlet.
Anyway, I gave up at 300,000, but my wife has hit 3.7 million. I'm in awe whenever she plays...
JTM @ Dec 7th 2006 6:49PM
If anyone was to do it, I would like to see K4rn4ge or YourExWife do it. They devote so much time into the community of Xbox and for the game. I've known them both on XBL for a while and there both great! Check out one of the sites they run @ http://www.XBLaddict.com
John Perkins @ Dec 7th 2006 6:56PM
Just when I thought the extent to which a person could be lame, something like this happens.
FULLTIM3KILLER @ Dec 7th 2006 6:57PM
so being that most people dont even get to see the highest difficulty it is a big achievement. I remember when the sexbox had just come out and 7 mil was a crazy high score. I think i remember seeing an article in rolling stones anout it . Then the benchmarks of 10, 20 , 50 , 100 , now 300 mil came around. Id like to see the people talking like "he doesnt have a life or girlfrriend crap" get a high score. Apparently they have time to bash people on the internet. Now , those are the cool kids!
Tim @ Dec 7th 2006 6:57PM
Fun Fact:
137 billion seconds = 4341 years
Rubang @ Dec 7th 2006 6:57PM
@14 (Soulo Okalani)
137 billion seconds? Are you suggesting this man is 4,344 years old? Even so, I bet he saw his mother naked very early on, so I'd take off just a few billions.
Scott E @ Dec 7th 2006 6:59PM
Yes, its impressive. No, he hasn't seen a girl naked.
My highscore is 4.3 Million. I can't even imagine getting over 100 million let alone a billion.
Splinter @ Dec 7th 2006 6:59PM
Id lol if at the 999 milion mark, after gaming for 89 hours straight, the power went out. This how serial killers are born people.
Tim @ Dec 7th 2006 6:59PM
Rubang=pwnt
razer @ Dec 7th 2006 7:04PM
Yea, I've talked to this K4RN4GE dude online and he actually has an ego over this and was a real dick. So good for him, maybe he can get a room with StripClubDJ and they can makeout with each because it's probably all the play these 2 super nerds are going to get. /moving along
Rubang @ Dec 7th 2006 7:08PM
Thanks Tim. This is my first time getting pwnt on Joystiq. It really means a lot to me. And I'm at work, so I just got paid to get pwnt. My boss=pwnt!
Phillip @ Dec 7th 2006 7:09PM
@4 ...wait, what's a girlfriend? I assume that it has something to do with "friend"s (girl_friend_), so what's a girl?
J.D. Lowe @ Dec 7th 2006 7:13PM
You know, sadly, the guy would have to go through a lot to make sure that Guinness takes the record. Todd Rogers once played for 85 hours straight on one game of Journey Escape for Atari 2600, but he didn't get the drug test necessary (and he claims he was clean with it). Google "Todd Rogers Journey Escape", because he did a lot of interviews for it.
Tim @ Dec 7th 2006 7:16PM
Hahahah Rubang I'm just kidding around. Great minds think alike and all that jazz.
Jonah Falcon @ Dec 7th 2006 7:17PM
"Wow... that's a lot of time and effort. I'd rather spend time with my girlfriend."
How long does it take you to inflate her?
Tim @ Dec 7th 2006 7:29PM
Oh snap.
Johnny Falcon is my new hero.
cjr @ Dec 7th 2006 7:31PM
Well, I don't have a girlfriend, AND I suck at Geometry Wars. So I feel -really- bad :(
YourExWife @ Dec 7th 2006 7:46PM
@27: I find that highly unlikely considering he's a very cool guy. You're just probably one of the dozens of friend requests and messages that each of us gets everyday that we just ignore. So many that you can't love 'em all.
To everyone that says that we have no lives/girlfriends, etc., you guys are just sad. Jealousy is an ugly monster. Eveyone in the top ten leads a normal life outside of Xbox Live. Many of us are full time college students. Others, like Another Joe, have wives and kids. This is just a like a side project or a hobby for us. We don't play these games non-stop either. We spread them out over many days when we get free time. You guys just need to get over yourselves.
nate @ Dec 7th 2006 7:50PM
i'd laugh if is his 360 froze when he gets close to a billion
Jackson Pritt @ Dec 7th 2006 8:09PM
No.
Maybe if he played a video game for the most consecutive hours ever, that would be GWR worthy, but just getting the highest score ever on one specific game doesn't seem like enough of an achievement to warrant inclusion in the GWR book unless you're suggesting that they start including high-score winners in every single video game ever.
Huzzah!! @ Dec 7th 2006 8:56PM
More like "No life." I'd probably rather kill myself than spend 90 hours on it just for a record. Play games to have fun, you loser.
YourExWife @ Dec 7th 2006 9:17PM
Might I add that this article is completely wrong? He never revealed any plans to do anything of the sort. He revealed that he wants to one day break 500 mil, but that's it.
Marc @ Dec 7th 2006 9:48PM
@ YourExWife,
"like Another Joe, have wives and kids."
So are you telling me that Another Joe is a morman, or are u just teh sux at typing?
Severran @ Dec 7th 2006 9:57PM
Ok, here's the deal. No doubt 300 000 is impressive, (maybe not as much as the 400 000+ fella before me) but let's be objective - not critical, since I support any time consuming endeavor- just how much harder does the game get after, say... 200 0000? If you can break that, wouldn't it be simply a matter of endurance to reach 300k and 400k and so on? Or, does the game have some kind of 'Infinity Difficulty Slider' that makes each subsequent 100k milestone harder to break? Nonetheless, I do think that's an impressive score.
Steve (the real one) @ Dec 8th 2006 12:14AM
Severran, you will understand if you ever play it. This is how it works.
1. it starts easy. every 10 or so seconds a new wave comes out of each corner, each time with new harder enimies, faster, more of them; different combinations that progressively get harder.
2. there are some random ones that appear in between.
3. as you kill them, you build up a point multiplier, for everyone you kill, it multiplies the points.
4. If you die, your multiplier starts over, but the waves continue to grow harder.
The trick is to get a very high multiplier (don't die) you have more lives, but if you die, it continues to get harder, but you are getting much less points. I have gotten to about 768k points. That took about 20 minutes. Basically, every 5-8 seconds the screen almost filled up with several hundered (or more) shapes that were all trying to hit my little ship. If any of them touches your ship, you die, no health. 1mil points is a great feat. 1,000,000,000 is just... that is a big number.
YourExWife @ Dec 8th 2006 3:08AM
@Steve (the real one):
While your analysis and explanation are appreciated, 5 million points takes about 30 minutes. 700k or so is only about 5 mins.
@Marc:
You're a moron. The grammar is correct because I am referring to multiple people having wives, not just him.
Petrie @ Dec 8th 2006 3:44AM
@YourExWife
Not that I'm supporting him on anything else, but I must inform you, even if it's multiple of you, you each only have one wife, making is correct to say many of us have a wife and children.
YourExWife @ Dec 8th 2006 3:57AM
Either way is correct Petrie. The beauty (and ignorance) of English is that so many different things can express a similar thought.
K4rn4ge @ Dec 8th 2006 4:14AM
I dont have a girlfriend all i do with my life is play Geometry Wars
reppy @ Dec 8th 2006 5:08AM
This is like David Blaine announcing he is about to do something that's going to take a really long time and has no real consequence on anything meaningful.
Now, high score on Pac-Man, there was something to get excited about...
K4rn4ge @ Dec 8th 2006 6:49AM
Ignorant posts like these from immature people who have no idea who the person is behind the gamertag.
I am currently in college grad school- already graduated from C.W Post Long Island University with a B.S (no not bull$hit for the morons here), working full time, had girlfriends (not currently but did last week and NO we did not break up because of my geometry wars high score session, jeez).
Also, I want to point out that I never spoke or played with that dude razer who said supposedly I have an ego problem. Ask anyone in the geometry wars forums (where I post often) and you will see that is untrue. Sure I enjoy being # 1 but I have never said that I am the best. In fact, I know for a fact that other people like YourExWife and EckoWll are in the same skill range as me and they could take the number one spot away from me sometime.
Again, the people who think out of their a$$es will say "oh you have no life because you played 30 hours to get that score". Well, I played 30 hours but over 4 days. Sure it was still alot of geometry wars but I did it when I was off from work- plus after that I gave me and my xbox a long needed rest where I only played other games for an hour or so the next couple of days. I used up that time for geo wars to get a high score and now I probably won't play it again for weeks, until winter break when I will have enough time to try for a billion. Anyway, I'm rambling now but some people are just haters.
I get loads of messages and have a full friends list due to geometry wars but I will try to reply or private chat to everyone if you want to have a serious discussion about this. To the people that think I'm cool, thanks. To the people who think I'm a loser, go **** yourselves because you don't know how good my life is outside of video games, and I could care less what you think about me.
Matt Category @ Dec 8th 2006 7:24AM
Dude, 360mil is damn good score. But if you are seriously going to go for the 1billion, then you should get in contact with Twin Galaxies for an official high score...
They are the pro's at doing it!
KDawg2600 @ Dec 8th 2006 8:48AM
@Severran
I don't exactly know the criteria for the final difficulty increases(I think it's some sort of combination of points and time), but somewhere around 3-7 million, the game stops getting harder. From there on out it is a matter of endurance, focus, and fighting off the desire to play something else when you get bored.
kay @ Dec 8th 2006 8:59AM
I'm sure if you think really hard, Marc, you'll know exactly what she means.
I think its great. Kudos to the man.
Everyone saying he has no life is no better than Jack Thomspon saying GTA helps kids train to be killers. Stop generalizing like that. It's silly. Coming from so called gamers, its also hypocritical.
