I was introduced to the game in the drinking sense, but we always called it LRC - Left, Right, Center. No big deal. It's a fun drinking game, but other than that I really never saw a use for it.

Oh yeah, gambling and booze. Both always make for a good party!

I think a nice & simple hack is simply to have each player take turns deciding who should roll the dice, rather than simply rolling the dice themselves. It adds a bit of strategy to the mix.

In this scenario you could, of course, choose yourself as "the roller."

throw away the chips and use dollar bills. when all the money is in the center (basket), the person with the last dollar gets the basket.

we play during the holidays and its much more fun with a little bonus for the winner.

i dont know if this counts as a hack or variant of LCR, or of any other analog game.....but.......

the best game with the most variances of games imho is pocket pool

one of my fav games is cowboy.
3-6 players
this is a money game. usally for quarters or dollars.

BCA or APA 9 ball rules apply

for the game you need
a pool table :)
a leather pouch and tallyballs ( tallyballs are little balls labeled 1-15 e.g. 1-15 on the table.)

everyone pulls a tallyball out of the pouch
the lowest number pulled breaks.

rack the balls as if you were playing 8 ball.

there is a pot that everyone puts 1 dollar into before starting.

the object: to run as many balls in a row running 1 through 15, each time you pocket a persons ball that corrisponds to their tallyball they pay you 1 dollar.

if you are able to pocket your own ball you get the money in the pot.

this stops when the 15 is pocketed and then the game is over .....

and your friends start to hate you..... :)

Potentially, this could become one of the great drinking games; sharing company with "Three Man" and "Quarters". I will be looking for a set this evening.

Some hippie friends introduced us to LCR. Good game to play substituting quarters for the chips.

oh man, so much fun to be had, we do ski trips constantly and LEFT RIGHT CENTER (we don't go abbreviating greatness) is always on the agenda for the evening.

personal favorite hacks:
-dollars for chips (duh)
-players without any dollars left must take shots instead of rolling dice

there is also a good hack for co-ed's (preferrably if your all single and lookin to mingle)

-each time its your roll and you have no chips, you must sacrifice an article of clothing.

LCR has been a family tradition at holidays for years.

Trust me, the game gets *a lot* more interesting when you replace the chips with dollars and you cram 15 people into a game.

Confucius - what a coincidence, I was introduced to this game by friends of mine who were enormous Quarters and Three Man fans. In fact, I didn't even know anybody else played Three Man, I thought it was something they made up!

Ahhh good ole 3 man. Speaking of analog hacks, what's everyone got for 3 man rules? Personally I'm a big fan of the little guy. I have seen that lead to insane amounts of drinking.

For those that don't know... the little man is an imaginary man that sits on top of your beer. Before taking a drink you must take the little man off the beer and set him on the table, and when finished put him back up on top. Forgetting to do so will cost you double what you were supposed to have to drink.

How about this (very minor) tweak:

* Use dollars (or coins)
* Play regular rules (so C's are lost to the pot.)
* Last person with money wins that money to keep.
* Leave the money in the center to build up and first to win 3 games gets the pot, (rather than sharing out the pot after each round.)
* You could also take a shot/swig for each "dot"

A one-sided sheet of paper? That sounds newsworthy in and of itself. How about a photo of this most Escher-like rule sheet?

I played this years ago. (About 4 years ago maybe.)
I was quite surprised to see this article. I think we still even have a copy of LCR somewhere.
