Right now, people are lined up across Europe, ready and waiting to get their hands on the Wii. For those not going to a midnight launch (only a few minutes away in London), you still have a few hours to wait. If you are one of the lucky few landing a system tonight, you're part of a Wii tide that will spread across the continent, timezone by timezone, bringing joy (and frustration) to the masses. Nintendo fans, lined up as far as the eye can see, just like in the US, just like in Japan ... ah, the launch of a new console really breaks down all sorts of cultural barriers, doesn't it? Just warms the heart.
They're not lined up at London's official launch zone, though -- while campers have been present since December 5, reports GameSpot, Oxford Street was growing so crowded that people were reportedly sent home and told to return later. That's going to make the competition for any last slots brutal ....
The bad news, however, is that the rumors seem to be reality: the UK, and the rest of Europe, is likely to suffer from a Wii shortage that will pale beside that experienced in North America. We're all hoping Nintendo is churning out consoles as fast as they can make them, since fans around the world really need to be able to get their hands on a Wiimote.
Check back with Wii Fanboy tomorrow for more information on the European launch!
