Today's hottest game video: Halo 3 "Starry Night" ad dissected [update 1]
Since the Halo 3 ad has been chewing up the online gaming video charts, it's about time someone took a look at it in ultra-close detail. GameVideos.com has the top-rated video today that dissects things under a microscope, and basically says everything about the ad that you've been thinking. You can practically hear the drooling in their voices as they go over the video. Plus it nicely shows off the video playing capability of the Xbox 360 if you haven't seen it before. While there is no new information here, it's totally what we're all thinking about and anticipating, unless you're waiting on Hello Kitty Island Adventure to become a reality. It's a strange day and age when we're basically getting what amounts to a commentary track on a commercial for a game that won't be out for many months. Bring it on already.
[Update: due to a technical glitch we like to call "idiocy," the wrong video was uploaded. This has been fixed and all responsible parties sacked.]

It's a sad, not a strange, day and age when we're basically getting what amounts to a commentary track on a commercial for a game that won't be out for months. The Micro$oft Hype Machine rolls ever onwards............
fiasco8 @ Dec 8th 2006 2:50AM
This video can entertain everyone till they get the correct one up.

No kidding me
I mean I know this site is pro Monoplsoft (the blogger's breakfast must have really worked ehh Joystixbox?) The net is getting excited over what Master (bator) Chief.....video. It sure is funny that MGS4 has some video of (possible) gameplay, but the editors here drool over a 60 second spot.
BONESTOCK @ Dec 8th 2006 3:10AM
Yeah.....assface, MGS has nothing on Halo.
Josh @ Dec 8th 2006 3:13AM
Holy Grail reference. Nice.
AndrewNeo @ Dec 8th 2006 3:23AM
Uh, I do believe that only the models were provided by Bungie, and the entire video is rendered, not in-game like the E3 video. C'mon Joystiq, get it straight. I quote:
"We must reiterate that this commercial was created from scratch by Digital Domain. It does use Bungie's Halo 3 models and assets, but does not reflect the actual game."
http://www.joystiq.com/2006/12/04/halo-3-starry-night-commercial/
Still really good, though.
serb @ Dec 8th 2006 3:30AM
so how does this look any diff than gears of war?
Kevin @ Dec 8th 2006 3:35AM
Uh, #8, where did I ever say anything about the models or the rendering?
BMa @ Dec 8th 2006 4:00AM
...that was a complete waste of time.
jchensor @ Dec 8th 2006 4:33AM
If I click on the video and it is STILL the Wiimote on Halo 2 vid, will those responsible for sacking the people who have just been sacked be sacked?
White Rabbit @ Dec 8th 2006 4:49AM
I find it funny how so many people complain about this article. Its not like you HAVE to watch it.
obviously some people don't like halo. skip the article. don't waste our time bitching
and comparing GoW to Halo3...
wow I'm not even going to bother with that idiocy
simon @ Dec 8th 2006 5:36AM
thas fukin amazing! you people actually get payed for that?? alright people get excited about things, i can understand that. but its a fucking 60 second commercial. if your getting excited about that then you need to be shot. only in america!
DeadPlasmaCell @ Dec 8th 2006 6:21AM
It's funny that everyone nuts over any new Zelda screens or movies or if any Metal Gear stuff is released, but show some Halo stuff and everyone is crazy and Pro-MS and Anti-Everything else
KapsLocked @ Dec 8th 2006 7:22AM
It's funny that everyone goes nuts over any new FRANCHISE VIDEO GAME screens or movies or if any OTHER FRANCHISE VIDEO GAME stuff is release, but show some DIFFERENT FRANCHISE VIDEO GAME stuff and everyone is crazy and Pro-VGCOMPANY and Anti-Everything else.
Sheesh. No preference here though.
I will say that I get chills every time I watch that video. It's good sh-.
BlindsideDork @ Dec 8th 2006 8:03AM
After listening to this video(the right one), it is funny looking back at all the halo fanboys(I personally think the series is OVERRATED) about the graphics since they said this is just a video created and ISN'T in game and not necessarily CG animation FROM the game.
Meaning.....just a little video that has halo figures and ideas but otherwise has about jack squat to do with Halo. HAHAHA!
Lolza @ Dec 8th 2006 9:03AM
I'm never going to get those 10 minutes of my life back again, am I?
Hell2Pay @ Dec 8th 2006 9:59AM
It is funny that the any Anti-(insert your console here) feel the need to express themselves negatively just because it is a "damn good" commercial. Let's digest it for a little bit. A commercial is for the only purpose of getting "people" to know there "product". If the commercial is a success then people would talk about it then in turn "product placement" is in affect. For some "gamers" the Halo games are overrated and they are entitled to their opinion but the fact remains that it is a "popular" game "accross" all ages. The commercial reflects what the "consumer" wants and it is willing to "waist" a minute of there lifes. Just remember if you can't seem to grasp the fundamental business ways of placing a product on tv then "shut-up".
Camp @ Dec 8th 2006 10:10AM
I cannot believe they missed the little girl's voice saying "tactical" right as Master Chief stands up and puts his helmet on. If you're going to analyze something to death how could you miss that little tid-bit?

Why is your post riddled with a bunch of quotes? I hope you are not refering to me. I assume you don't mean it but it almost appears as if you are saying if you don't like Halo, you aren't a gamer. I am very much a gamer, but don't like halo and do think it is overrated and am not the only person who thinks that (I know quite a few). Only thing is...I did enjoy the commercial, it did get me excited and get me in the action mood. What I meant was how Halofanboys would orgasm over that even though it isn't even footage from the game in any form.
SpottedNigel @ Dec 8th 2006 10:48AM
I'm in a weird minority here... I'm not a big fan of actually playing the Halo games, but I absolutely LOVE the storyline. I still need to read the new Onyx book, but the first and third Halo Novels where amazing (#2 = Halo 1). Im actually hoping that Halo 3 surprises me and is quite a bit more fun to play than the last 2.
sambo7 @ Dec 8th 2006 12:03PM
In my opinion, when Halo 3 arrives as a playable game, it will certainly be a quality experience, much better than anything the msg series has to offer. btw, Master Chief could easily kick msg whateverhisnames' ass any time, any day. I am also glad that when i play Halo 3 that i wont be sitting there having to jerk my controller around like an idiot...
Hell2Pay @ Dec 8th 2006 11:37AM
#21 - I was not referring to you more like in general. I see your point about some Halo fans getting very excited about a commercial and the need to digest it. But, thas how a good "product placement" is about. To get people excited about it. Let me reference another popular product; Pokemon (spellcheck). Pokemon to me is a product I don't understand how people get so excited but I see there point and the craze it creates. The more you place that product the more it creates a buzz and perhaps sales; same with Halo. Let's just give credit where credit is due.
fiasco8 @ Dec 8th 2006 12:11PM
For the people that have responded and don't even like Halo...why are you even reading this article :|
smellslikepie @ Dec 8th 2006 12:29PM
Camp - She says 'Time to go' not Tactical.
kurtangle1982 @ Dec 8th 2006 12:50PM
I like the Monty Python reference.
White Rabbit @ Dec 8th 2006 12:32PM
@25
Exactly :P
Its like if you go to videogame forums and people go to a forum dedicated to a console, and people will show up in threads simply to bash on that console.
So basically, all the people making the "i've wasted 10 minutes of my life"
you just wasted MORE minutes of your life posting in this thread. Good job at failing
habbakuk @ Dec 8th 2006 1:16PM
this is advertising at it's zenith with people going crazy over a 60 second commercial.
haegen @ Dec 8th 2006 2:16PM
if i remember correctly, this spot was designed intentionally to air during monday night football (pretty sure i read that here). a lot of the things that people are freaking out about just seem like halo-ized football references. putting on the helmet after a big hit, the shield grendade (thing looks like a futuristic football), the massive sprint, the brutes suggesting a defensive line....i'm not saying there aren't hints or anything but let's be reasonable here.
BIGGEN @ Dec 8th 2006 3:18PM
i really can't believe people are talking about this in this much detail. i love games, i like halo, but maybe i don't understand why this is such a big fuckin deal to analyze every little portion of this commercial. "ooh, why is the shield an item you have to pull from your inventory and not just something that comes out of the armor. and can you throw it at your buddy if he's trouble." wtf? i just can't believe people are this anally pleasured by a commercial. if it was gameplay, it would be one thing, but it's nothing more than a COMMERCIAL! please people, go play Lost Planet multi and you'll forget about halo.
