Alien games to burst out of Sega's chest
A despicable creature gnawing at your insides, slowly growing in size and voracity until it shoves its hideous head right through your rib cage and causes splintery bone to pierce your flesh. So, a lot like playing the new Sonic the Hedgehog, then. Indeed, a more appropriate company than Sega could not be found for a recent deal struck by Fox Licensing with regards to their lucrative Alien film franchise. The new agreement, as detailed by The Hollywood Reporter, allows Sega to develop multiple games for new generation consoles and PCs. With a first-person shooter and a role-playing game already under development, an elaborate and somewhat sinister music-and-rhythm title can't be far behind.
Mike Gallo, senior producer of the Alien series at Sega, promises that the developers will go out of their way to "tie the games into the films in unique ways." He also says they'll look at source materials and the films for inspiration, which is nice. The first title is due in 2008 -- that's when Sega will be "taking licensing to the next level," it says here.

i'm already excited.
it's time to redeem the Alien franchise and show them who's boss. all these kids who play Halo these days and don't even know how much that game borrows from Aliens is ridiculous!

That...is the best news EVER from Joystiq.
ALIENS "pwn" you.
Why Sega? I like Sega, but I have doubts of their ability to bring the right feel to ALIENS.
Monolith and Vivendi did AVP2, which is the best ALIENS-involved game currently in existence.
*does a dance*
AVP3 AVP3 AVP3!

I hope SEGA treats the franchise with reverence and irreverence at the same time.
A part of me wants them to build a game that is faithful to the Aliens franchise like the two AVP PC games. The Xenomorphs, brutal and nasty. The Predators, merciless and unrelenting. The United States Colonial Marines, cocky and sardonic. The weapons gritty and awesome.
However, another part of me wants them to rebuild the classic Capcom beat 'em up, featuring features such as 1000 different alien castes, 50 different predator weapons not in canon, and a caricature representation of colonial marine presence in-game. Oh, plus manga stylized artwork with uber-cute colonial marine chicks that normally wouldn't look cute in live action.

I enjoyed the original AVP more than avp2. Just give me "aliens" using unreal engine 3, that would make me happy.

^If anyone has ever played this in the arcade knows that Sega will bring good things to the Aliens franchise.

Don't forget that Sega already had the Alien license; they made a not-bad arcade side-scroller based off Aliens in the late 80s.

I have been waiting for a new Aliens game to come out since avp-avp2 out on pc. Oh im sure they will use some sort of Unreal 4 engine since it will be released (hopefully) in 2008-09. I would be surprised if they screwed this up since they are talking about putting original voices from early movies into the game. It will be a good game and they will do the best possible job. ie: acid that melts the ground around you after killing an Alien. I can go on in what I want in the game but it should be good if we are talking about it now, and it comes out in 3 years.
