Already got mine from Nintendo on Friday (ordered them the week before) and they cost me less than the 3rd party ones that the Canadian Best Buy is selling...they want $50+tax.....mine were $35.

btw I never knew the official cables had such good packaging.....here's what mine looked like:

I work at Best Buy here in California...the component cables from React have been in for about a week now (despite our system originally telling us they'd be in more or less on the 12th or 13th).

Stock is limited (of course) - I saw about 8 of them come in a couple of nights ago, but every other shipment has been 4 or less.

Yeah, last I saw at BestBuy there were just the MadCatz ones (and not many) for $60. I'll have to check back for $25 ones I guess.

That's suprising. Are you in the US? Cause my 1st cables came in the post in a no frills clear plastic baggie.

@7 No...Canada, but mine are part of the 2nd shipment so maybe they're packing them nicer. I think the first batch had such large demand that they shipped them like that....but who knows.

I got mine from Nintendo last week. They make a pretty noticeable difference in picture quality. I'm in the middle of replaying Resident Evil 4 (never had the GameCube component cables) and I'm pretty impressed with the sharpness of the picture.

BestBuy and FutureShop (owned by BestBuy) here in Canada has ASiD TECH HD PRO Wii Component cables on the shelves for $49CDN. Although FutureShop's website says they are released today, they had them on the shelves last Friday.

A friend of mine at work put out 6 Component cables, came back 10 mins later and there was 1 left.

Also, I thought Nintendo is selling their component cables online, but at only 1 per customer.

Is there any legit reason to buy the Nintendo component cables over the 3rd party ones? I onyl say this becuase if I'm getting Wii component cables, I want the best. Is there even a best or is it all relatively the same?

I went to the Nintendo Customer Service desk in Redmond, WA and bought my component cables with cash on the spot.

I was shocked they're fairly decent quality, gold-plated and a nice elaborate box, as mentioned by Miibody before.

I purchased the component pair from a BestBuy in Canada. They had 16 in stock last week. The night I got them, I tried them only to find out they were faulty. The wiring was so bad that tapping them made the colour off on my TV. A poor connection. Already as it was, $50 CDN was pricey so I returned them and ordered a set of Nintendo cables. They should be coming in soon.

I'm not against third party accessories, but for $50 they better be the best damn accessories ever! Not worth it for us Canucks.

I just got my cables in the mail today from NOA direct. Gotta say, I'm pretty disapointed. It ADDED jaggies where there were none before. The image IS clearer, but it's not the quantum leap I expected. My mII characters actually looked a little worse using the component. It's like there's an extra layer of edge enhancement. Still, it is better and now I can finally play Zelda (yes, I've been waiting for the good cables so that I didn't have to explore "land-o-muck). Just my opinion. Anyone else not blown away?

i picked up some last thursday at the best buy in dc (tenleytown). they were 60 bucks, made by some company called psyclone, and are REAL nice. of course, real nice is useless because they are just cables, but they are well made. not worth the price, so i'm going to order some mad catz ones soon and return these.

oh right, and the picture quality is much nicer on my 42" plasma. i did have to play with the contrast ratio and turned down the sharpness in order to get rid of the jaggies. but man, zelda is a lot more playable now without the muddyness.

rickenback -

I just received my cables today, and I agree the lack of anti-aliasing is magnified in 480p. Zelda looks much better, but there are some areas that are dreadful to look at - it seems with clarity, small or distant objects have become harder to look at.

Sounds like your TV settings need fixing. Component cables should give you an all-around clearer picture, which might cause jaggedness if you had your sharpness cranked up for a cruddier picture with composite cables.

I bought mine last Saturday... Let me just say, they are AMAZING on my HDTV. The picture is brighter, sharper, and the colors are more vibrant.

Component cables make all the difference on an HDTV -- using the regular composite cables on an HDTV causes lag, since composite only carries 480 lines interlaced (480i), which and HDTV must deinterlace. I have a 1080p set, so 480i must be deinterlaced (which adds a split second lag) to faked 480p and resized to 1080p. With component cables, 480p is natively output, so a step is skipped and lag is avoided and the result is instantly responsive movement on the monitor. Plus all the other benefits... (Clear picture, brighter and vibrant colors.)

The jaggies were already there. It's just that the lower fidelity of composite cables masks them out -- only you get muddier and blurrier colors. On an HDTV, such imperfections are magnified so much more, but the more apparent jaggies that component cables display is an acceptable and necessary "trade-off" for the awesome image quality increase you will see.

@20, I saw those Psyclone cables in Cincinnati this weekend, and I was a bit taken aback at the high price. Right under them, though, they had the S-Video cables. I might pick those up, I had very good luck with the Monster S-Video cables for my GC. Does anyone know what the difference is between S-Video vs Component Cables if you have a non-HDTV?

One thing I noticed while playing Zelda on Component (I played the first 20 hours just on Composite cuz I'm not one of those lamers who refuse to play great games just cuz the graphics aren't perfect) is that now I can actually see enemies really far away. They POP OUT! They are crisp, slowly moving pixels instead of just blurring into the landscape like they do with Composite. I was able to spot a couple heart pieces and poe souls all the way across the map, which I might not have noticed otherwise.

I am weak. I saw the $50 cables in Future Shop on Sunday and thought about it for about 15 minutes while I did shopping for other peoples' presents, then was drawn back to the display and picked them up. I know I spent probably $20 more than I should have to if I waited, but the moment I powered up the Wii with component input on my projector instead of the composite cable made it all worth it. Like night and day different. Perhaps on a TV the difference won't be as pronounced, but on my projector the colors were no longer washed out, and the brightness was spot on. Very pleased with the display now. And all the old Gamecube games get upscaled too! Even the ones that aren't marked as progressive scan compatible. That was a surprise to me..

What I am wondering is how do I get the audio to work when I use the S-Video cables on my 21" LCD monitor.

Do I need to get speakers that can support the white and red audio plugs, or do I need to get a composite audio/RCA adaptor so my regular speakers can use them?

Can't imagine the Nintendo branded ones looking any better.

On a non-hdtv is it better to use component cables or s-video cables, because it still can't display 480p, only 480i?

jon, your set is able to display 480p if it has component inputs. I am in your same situation, and am wondering if someone has input as to the quality or improvement over S-Video on a non-hdtv set.

I will say be careful of the React cables. I bought the S-video ones for my TV and after a few minutes I plugged my ol' composite cables back in. The picture looked better, no doubt, but the sound from these cables was awful! Once clear sound effects and even the "dings" from the Wii menues now sounded all "tinny" and distorted and aggrivated me to no end. Loud noises and high pitched tones did not come through as clearly as on the regular Nintendo cables. The sacrfice of sound quality from Nintendo's cables wasn't worth the marginally better video quality.

I've had the same sound problem with 3rd party cables before for my Gamecube, which went away upon changing them to Nintendo or Monster/Psyclone cables. I only hope that Nintendo or Psyclone releases an S-video cable I can use, so I can have better picture without the crappy sound.

Since my television doesn't support component cables, i'm looking for s-video cables. Nintendo is already offering s-video cables for the Wii, but only in Japan(http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-10u-49-en-70-1mwg.html)

Has anyone tested these cables on european (PAL) televisions?

If the first party cable won't work on european televisions, i will try to get the Madcatz S-video cables for the Wii (http://www.ebgames.com/product.asp?product_id=802519)

These cables aren't for sale yet. Anybody willing to share his experiences with other cables from Madcatz. Is this a strong brand in this field?

The official s-video cable from Play-Asia for the Japanese console don't work on PAL systems people have tried this. I've e-mailed Nintendo UK and they said they will be releasing S-video for PAL regions but weren't sure on the date they will be released. They must have different pins to the NTSC cable.
