Wii Remote Power Glove Hack

When Nintendo first revealed that its new system would use a motion-sensitive controller, comparisons were inevitably drawn to the company's first experiment with VR, the NES Power Glove. Well, all those comparisons just became a whole lot more apt now that a Japanese hacker has mounted a Wii remote on a power glove.
The prototype hybrid controller uses specially mounted triggers on the thumb and middle finger to simulate the A and B buttons, and even includes an opening for the nunchuck attachment in the back. The video below shows how the setup allows for some cool Minority-Report-style interaction in pointer-based games, but we can't help but worry about the inevitable arm fatigue caused by holding the glove straight out in front of you. Ouch!

The Power Glove was made by Mattel, not Nintendo.
britenite @ Dec 12th 2006 11:06AM
I'm not really sure you can characterize the Power Glove as Nintendo's first experiment with VR as Nintendo wasn't in any way responsible for the Power Glove...

im going to reiterate my earlier comments about a power suit!
come on sony, if u can make the super simple sell (i think its spelled cell but I like alliteration) and the super fast bluray then u can easily make a full on vr suit!
woo!

For the last time...
INTERNET, GET THIS THROUGH YOUR THICK FUCKING SKULLS:
Mattel made the Power Glove, not Nintendo.

My wife, family and friends think I'm a retard alredy for jumping around with a remote all day.
I wait for the day when I get myself a suit.

And what it is necessary to think of you in such cases??
thefunkyone @ Dec 12th 2006 11:58AM
that glove isnt that impressive, just micro switches taped to the finger and thumb, the gloves just there as eye candy..... Now if he had altered the gloves original circuitry so that the original finger sensors worked as the wiimote buttons, then that would have been impressive...

I think we should make it a point that at least every third post reiterates that
MATTEL MADE THE POWERGLOVE, NOT NINTENDO!
Because obviously people still don't get it.
RDX @ Dec 12th 2006 12:20PM
....man I hate when people pull the "OMG OLD NEWS!!!!!1" card. Congratulations. You've seen this before. Now to try earn my appreciation for not being a douche.
KaneRobot @ Dec 12th 2006 12:46PM
Jesus. Don't mount a nunchuk to a R.O.B. Robot, or the components will come to life and kill your family with dual-weilded Zappers and asplode your house with a Super Scope.
Mike @ Dec 12th 2006 1:00PM
No problem Joystiq
Huzzah!! @ Dec 12th 2006 9:04PM

//14. This just looks so gay...//
The Power Glove by itself already emits enough gayness.
The fact that it was in the Wizard, with that dork Lucas and his dork one-liner "The Power Glove. It's SO RAD." reaches even further depths of gayness.
NOW, the fact that someone apparently thought it was a good idea to incorporate the horrible controller with a new system...well that's more gay than anything else gay has ever been gay.
