Boardroom guys: Let's make a Fallout MMO
According to a November SEC filing, battered software publisher, Interplay, imagines a wonderful future with gamers paying it $160 million per-year beginning in 2011. The one product that could relaunch the company: a Fallout MMO.In the SEC document -- with typical financial disclaimers saying the projection may never be realized -- Interplay hopes a $75 million Fallout MMO production of will save the farm. (A large part of that figure includes marketing.) The company intends to sell common stock to generate a significant part of that budget -- that's why this filing exists for us to drool and scribble notes in the margins.
While the product may eventually be created, give it at least a few months before getting excited; Interplay hopes development begins in early in 2007. And even then, you'll have to wait until Q3 2010 before the company intends to launch; three-and-a-half years in production seems optimistic. Keep the skepticism setting on high.

Doesn't Bethesda own the rights to fallout?

Yes but interplay kept the MMO rights. What's his name will use the last scraps of their money to fail in this idea.
Let's take a probably the best PC RPG ever known. Acclaimed for rich story, character development, global interaction, character interaction, gameplay, ect ect, and turn it into a grind fest about getting phat loot, l33t gear, and pwning newbs.

Should be titled "Boardroom Guys: Let's not fuck up this Fallout MMO"

This is either the greatest news ever, or the worst.

Man, if Interplay managed to get some Black Isle guys in on this (writers especially), this MMO could be gigantic. Fallout's got HORDES of raving lunatic fans (myself included) who would pay hand over fist for an MMO, even a shitty one.

I'm with halobreaker (#2). This is utterly pointless. Why make an MMO out of Fallout? There is just no way to retain what makes the original games so great.
If it comes to pass and others enjoy it, good for them, but it's certainly not for me.

If that games doesn't suck, it will be the first for-pay MMO I will ever play. I love the post-nuke / post-apocalypse setting that Fallout and Wasteland were based in. It would really offer some nice variation on current MMO's.
