Obsidian to helm Aliens RPG for Sega

Although officially unveiled today, the Aliens RPG is likely the mysterious project announced in March by Sega and Obsidian, which has been in development under the name Project Georgia. The game is scheduled to be released for PC and
IGN notes that Sega will announce the developer for its Aliens First-Person Shooter on Friday. If Sega aims to milk the franchise for all its worth, we're hoping to also see real-time strategy games, MMOs, kart racers, text-based adventures, and party games forthcoming.

Thank god a company who made the worst sequel to a game (KoToR 2), and made the worst release to a game (NWN2) is developing this game...
I'm as excited about Obsidian developing this game as I am about Jack Thompson books...
At least there is hope with the FPS.

I am a happy camper. You can never have enough ALIENS.
They better pick Monolith. They did an astounding job with AVP2. FEAR and Condemned were other great examples of what the 'lith can do. IGN says Gearbox, but I don't know about that.
And this had better evolve into AVP3. If anything is going to "kill halo" it would be that.

Alien vs Predator Date Sim for FTW!!

Gearbox isn't a bad choice at all if that were true. A lot of people want squad based combat in a game where you're playing a marine in the United States Colonial Marines. I will use Brothers In Arms as a citation.

Yeah, let's Mario up Aliens. There's a good idea.

#2: "the worst release to a game"? Really?
Obsidian puts out quality products. KOTOR2's rough edges were the result of a rushed release, which is the fault of LucasArts. And if you didn't like NWN2, you probably don't need to be playing video games.

@ #6:
I thought NWN2 was a bad release because (A) I believe Atari rushed it out the door to get it out in fiscal 06 for financial purposes and (B) because the game has some glaring technical problems. The camera has some crazy issues, and there are technical problems galore. All for a game that, quite honestly, doesn't look that much better than the original.
CuteUnit @ Dec 13th 2006 10:22PM
NWN2 is an OK game that would not sell high volumes were it selling under a differrent title, rather than as "NWN 2". Poor controls, an AI that misses the mark in many places, a story that starts strong but falls VERY flat at about the point they introduce the primary villain ( and by the time you get through the terribly bad ending, you are half tempted to uninstall and kick yourself for spending all that time just for.. that).
As a HUGE fan of ALIENS (James Cameron, please come back to the franchise. Alien 3 and beyond have all been horrid) I think the only company that ever did an Alien game right was Monolith...
Obsidian being named doesn't give me any hope. They must sell themselves to publishers as some "Veteran developer that can produce quality games in a short turnaround time". Of course, the moneybags don't quite understand that short turnaround and quality are to some degree mutually exclusive..

Heh... a wise man once said, "It can be cheap, quick, or good -- pick two." Seriously, I'm not sure there's much left to do with Aliens in the FPS genre. An RPG sounds interesting, and it would be great for an RTS...

While every debates the developers, I'm just excited that ALIENS has life in it. You can never get tired of saying "Get away from her you bitch!".
Gozan @ Dec 14th 2006 2:06AM
Hopefully Rebellion is making the FPS. I thought AvP 1 was much better than AvP 2.

Is this going to be a stand-up fight or another bug hunt?
